Gars couldn't post this himself today, so I'm doing it for him:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Captain speaking. I’ve been invited to make a short guest appearance here this week to give you an update on some of the new features that will be available to further mod Crusader Kings II once the next DLC is released.

Ever since the addition of forts to the game, there has been requests to be able to build buildings inside them just as in other settlements. Well, now you can.

And for those mods who want to present their players with their own bookmarks or additional bookmarks, the era selection screen has now been made fully customizable. So there is no longer the need to use our hard-coded localization strings or images, and the number of eras presented can now be set to anywhere from one to five.

Due to popular demand I have also added a number of new powerful scopes to triggers and effects that will make it easier to script complicated events and decisions, such as any_character and any_landed_title.

To whom an AI character gives out minor titles and religious titles are now scriptable in the same way as other decisions, and targeted decisions has gotten a new friend filter.

The new patch will also see a number of bug fixes. Some of the additional family opinion modifiers that were added earlier this year, such as uncle, nephew and niece all had some problems but are now working as designed, and the opinions between a child and his/her mother and father have now been split into several modifiers to allow for more control.

If you are interested to read more about these and other features you can head over to the mod sub-forum (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/crusader-kings-ii-user-modifications.682/) and specifically the thread Captain's Log (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/captains-log.774248/)

Over and out.

Another one of these 'dev diaries'? Good for modders and (with bug fixes) players...I guess?

Looks like we'll have to wait for new features.

For those who've been complaining about the recent DD's, just look at the name. They are called Dev Diaries, not DLC Diaries. That means that they are primarily a way for the Devs to communicate with the fans, not necessarily a way to speak about DLC's/expansions. That's not saying they can't be about DLC, just that it doesn't have to be the purpose 100% of the time. Also, for anyone crying out that they are boring, please do use more respectful language towards the Devs and towards your fellow forumites.

I don't know I have a feeling (More like a fantasy:p) that the next expansion will be about the Saxon Invasion.

Why...? I hope not. Migration era wouldn't work in CK2. Migrations ingame are crap... I want a migration era game.

And actually... there is no hint which leads to this conclusion. The picture in this DevDiary leads more into the time of the Hundred Years’ War :p

Well, they haven't announced the DLC at all - all we know is that there is an upcoming DLC, but we've known that at literally every single point of CK2's development. I definitely don't mind these dev diaries though, it's nice to see the other side of the devs sometimes.

Looking back now, they did say something about running dev diary in till to Christmas. My guess they won't talk about the actual content in till late November, give our self a few weeks of waiting.

It has been six weeks now, so they should have something to show soon. Me thinks they announced this DLC a bit too early, or perhaps they wanted to appease those who think CK2 is getting EUIV's scraps.

You are aware that we haven't announced anything yet?
We've only confirmed that there's something in the making, if there was an actual announcement, you'd get to see a lot more of the stuff we've done.

Yeah, we might see 1 or 2 dev diaries similar to these, before the expansion is announced. After that, I guess there will be 4-5 big diaries before the release.

*sigh* Another dev diary, another round of people whining about not enough crunchy details about the next DLC/patch. As per usual, I enjoy these diaries, even when they are of the more fluffy kind*. And this time we got some nice crunch (even though alot of it was already revealed in Gars own thread), so quit your belly-aching. I'm really looking forward to what modders can come up with with the new modding features coming in the next patch. :)

*Yes, I'm only repeating myself as a counter-weight to the whiners. I really hope the CK2 team continue to put these out, even when they aren't ready to reveal anything new.

I certainly hope not, the game does not handle cultural migrations well and adding yet another one will make that problem even worse. The migration period plus the early middlages (up to manzikert) should get it's own game.

Or they might be redoing the norman invasion of brittain. At the very least the last hint point us that france and england are involved in some capacity. As for what the latin clip in the last one means I despite having studied latin have no idea about (then again I took classical latin while any in the game would be medieval latin so I might actually be worse of for it).

Do you folks reckon the picture we got might be part of the new loading screen artwork? It looks like a relative small part of fairly large piece (from the amount of detail). The use of lighting seems intent on drawing attention towards the top of the picture and left. Then again what could really be above or beside a king on his throne?

Also I've never seen a fleur de lys on a red field before. Rampant lion on blue would usually be sweden but I doubt it this time.

Honestly as much as I enjoy makign up smartass comments about how little content there is in these devdiaries I do enjoy the theory crafting to.

As far as I know regarding medieval English royal heraldry, rampant lion was only used on the coat of arms of Richard the Lionheart, and possibly on his father's (Henry II). I've never seen it on a blue background though. Maybe it represents the Anglo-French union, with the English lion on the French blue, and the French fleur-de-lis on the English red. The unofficial coat of arms of the Angevin Empire.
Yeah, I'm probably blabbering nonsense, but......oh it's so fun to speculate :)

I was thinking along similiar lines I wonder if they'll have some sort of dynamic CoA generation for nations, I mean 'personal unions' usually did those in reality, just watch how the CoA for spain changed as it added kingdoms. Also most national crests carried the crest of the ruling family in them somewhere (and in time often incorporated it permanently). But the bit with changing the primary colours seems a bit complicated for actual dynamic CoA generation.

I would like the ability to simply edit the coat of arms of a certain kingdom myself. It would be nice if it changed automatically, but I don't know how would that work. Maybe if Paradox added a bunch of pre-made fictive combinations. I don't know if the AI can make random combinations.....umm...visually appealing.

It would be funny as anything if the CoA didn't actually mean anything, but Paradox had to make it mean something as people were speculating wildly.

I don't want you to do any "Jossing" here.

Anyway...the only thing that matters in this regard is...

Couldn't resist.

PS: This is especially silly if one knows that french ancestors of mine first rose against the english and then a later generation against the french kings.
Beware of bored barons !

Yes, but it's very entertaining to read all those wild speculations.
(and to create them)

Thanks for the link.
The important part in the english wiki:
"During the battle of Al Mansurah, an episode of the Seventh Crusade, the lord of Châteaubriant saved Louis IX of France. The King permitted him to replace the pine cones with fleurs de lys, the royal French symbol. The coat of arms was henceforth Gules, semy of fleurs de lys."

Albigensian crusade before, Avignon papacy after. Templars. Crusades .Lots of other stuff going on.
Some unruly vassals annoying the french king...which made for quite a long...brawl.

Stupidly hyped ...just before it gets shown that the picture in the OP is completely unrelated. *cries*
