Developer Diary | Graveyard of Empires

Generals, Long time no see..

Today we’re really excited to introduce you all to our latest country pack, Graveyard of Empires. Over the coming weeks, we will have a number of developer diaries showcasing the latest countries receiving new or updated focus trees. We will also have a number of streams so you can really get to grips with what to expect of all the latest content and we shall also be doing an AMA with the developer team.

Have a look at what’s coming:

Graveyard of Empires DD Calendar

To give you a quick overview of what to expect in this country pack, let’s start by taking a high-level view of each country.

India
The Raj is the jewel of the British Empire, rich and strategically vital. However, a growing independence movement threatens to disrupt the war effort and dissolve the empire. A large focus tree emphasising the struggle of Indian Independence offers many alternate historical paths, including not just the revival of the East India Company as a corporate nation, but also the possibility of freedom for the Princely States, and the formation of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Iran
Iran is a potential great power, hemmed in by the imperial pressure of the Soviet Union and the British Empire. A significant new focus tree will allow you to resist the imperial incursions that historically weakened Iran, as well as offering potential for a new and modern Persian Empire.

Iraq
Take control of this British client state and try to chart your own path, choosing to side against your overlord. Manage the many competing ethnic and religious factions in Iraq and develop the strategically important oil fields.

Afghanistan
Historically known as the Graveyard of Empires, isolated from the wider war, Afghanistan offers many alternate paths. Continue the historical path of neutrality and isolation, or choose the road of rapid industrialization and building a new power in the mountains of Central Asia.

Art & Achievements
While, at this point, some of this Diary is still in draft mode and has images like this…

I do want to quote marblemadness, one of our marvelous artists: “…we’ve greased our elbows and dug deep into the sand to excavate the best art we could find, so I really hope you enjoy what we have to show!”
And leave you with a nice teaser..

Will there be a revival of the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire as the British Raj or a Caliphate as Iraq? It would be interesting if a path for the British Raj allows you to get claims in former Hindu cultured countries in SEA.
It would make as much sense as Al-Andalus and the Ottoman Empire getting cores on everything, so I don't see why not?

How come all of Afghanistan’s and Iraq’s trees are being covered in one DD for both combined, while Iran and India get 2 full DD each? Are Iraq and Afghanistan getting mini trees, or is that just gonna be a massive DD?

What kind of tank is that??

The wheels have a weird shape, but the main cannon is pretty impressive!
Looks fairly AT-AT. Which was in fact confirmed for GOT to be an alternative tech for Land Cruisers for nations not yet having invented the wheel.

By mentioning Iraq as a client state and referring to the British as their overlord, are you going to have Iraq be a puppet of the UK?

Perhaps like Denmark they don’t get to join the allies?

Here's hoping for a Raj-Pro-Japan path with Subas Chandra Bose...
Ad of course, option for Netaji adopting Marxism if somehow Stalin or Trotsky backed him.

It would make as much sense as Al-Andalus and the Ottoman Empire getting cores on everything, so I don't see why not?
Do it by a set of decisions and only claims, and i'm sold. Unless they make Bali their own state which i predict would not be there until the SEA DLC....

too early, SUMKA was formed after ww2, smt original abt restoring zoroastrinism would be better for iran's fascism path
Either way it still would be interesting to have the possibility of having Davud Monshizadeh come back to Iran if they go fascist in the game and have him take part in the government as a “scholar”or “propagandist” minister

I have no doubt this will be interesting and fun but i really think you should prioritise giving majors dlc content over minors. For example japan has a miserable tree with very little options and a new tree for the USA and China along side that would make the pacific a much more intersting theatre for players. Also a touch up for Britain would be good as well because the tree is showing its age. Then move on to interesting minors like this dlc or countries like the commonwealth like australia which had huge impacts in north africa and asia.

Speaking of dead empires, has there been any progress to fixing the bug where Italy balkanizes itself in the post-civil war conference?

Spend worktime on fixing countless bugs, not working stats and broken and disfunctional NF trees for MAJORS, not this another batch of insignificant minors

I just want the UI to look nice in 4K.

I'd like to play as the princely states in India, having them share the same color as the British Raj. After the UK quit, India can be fragmented like Europe, and the princely states can become real countries. Then, we can have India's World War.

Nice to have now an overview about when certain infos are to be expected and a release date :)

And when will the huge number of bugs be fixed?
A lot of things in Götterdämmerung are still unplayable (especially the AI).
It's sad that DLCs are being released one after the other, but no one cares about them afterwards. After "Graveyard of Empires" come the two obligatory hotfixes, and then you don't hear anything from you devs for a few months until the next DLC is announced.
Finally take care of the content that's already in the game before new content is added!
What makes you so sure that we will not see another war effort patching campaign between GoE and the next release (which is not scheduled until Q3)?

I hope that Japan will finally have a rework done on its focus trees by 2026. Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand & Burma should also get some love from the devs!
