EU4 - Development Diary - 4th of October 2016

Hello everyone! Today is the final development diary before the release of Rights of Man! Which is next week! Actually, its next tuesday even! At 15.00 CET if all goes well.. 1.18 “Prussia” will go live on the steam-servers and you’ll be able to purchase Rights of Man.

So, to wrap up the teasers for this update, we’ll start with yet ANOTHER addition to a previous expansion. In El Dorado, we added advisor portraits for South Americans. Back in those days, advisors were all males.. Now though, we have added a set of female advisors to the South American graphical culture!

In our effort to make the games more user-friendly, or as some say, super-casual, we have now reduced the amount of clicks you need to continue a savegame. Now there is a nice “Continue” button in the launcher, that launchers your latest played game without stopping for a decision in the frontend.

And for those of you who play Hearts of Iron IV, you’ll be aware about the possibility for the game to automatically upload crashdumps to our servers, whenever you start the game after it had crashed before. Of course, this is all voluntary.

1.18 and Rights of Man adds 20 new achievements as well, for those of you that love hunting them.

  • We bled for this - Win a war with at least 1M dead on both sides.
  • Pick Your Poison - As Kaffa, develop in Cafa while a subject of yours owns it..

We have tweaked quite alot of national ideas in 1.18, adding new modifiers to them, giving a new fresh feeling. This includes movement speed of armies, fire damage, institution spread and more, and as usual, some countries got new unique national ideas, including Malwa, Pattani, Kaffa, Corfu, Lorraine and Wurzburg.

Here is a quick look at the national ideas of Malwa.

Traditions: +3 Tolerance of Heathen and -10% Infantry Cost.
  1. Rajputs of Malwa : +15% Manpower
  2. Nimatnama : +25% Religious Unity & +0.5 Yearly Prestige
  3. Surat-Delhi Route: +10% Trade Efficiency

And for those of you that play multiplayer. 1.18, will now give the option of making a player that drops totally brain-dead until he or she can reconnect.

Next week, we go live on the tuesday, so there won’t be a development diary that day!

And don't miss today's Weekly Developer Multiplayer Clash! 15:00CEST on https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive.

The stream will, as always, be available to watch later through either the Twitch VOD archive. Or through our Paradox Extra Youtube channel where you can find (pretty much) all our previous streams!

To differentiate them.

o (your head)

It is absolutely not necessary to differentiate male and female icons. At all.

Is the patch save game compatible or not?
It's the companion patch to a DLC. Those are pretty much never actually save-compatible even when they're theoretically save-compatible.

The Sudanese expedition is the one im going for as Morocco is my favourite nation!

Thank you for adding achievements that are actually doable by a regular player instead of more WC's by other names.
To be fair, from the past three DLCs (CS, TC, MN), the only genuine "WC by another name" achievement is "One Faith".

(Yes, there are quite a few that come into "Over A Thousand" territory, but I submit that a regular player should in fact be capable of getting "Over A Thousand".)

Core-fu - force a nation to revoke 5 cores in one peace deal as Corfu

Ok, can I ask one last time before this becomes a reality and removes any chance of it happening: get rid of the Corfu tag. It's rulers are fictional and Corfu itself should be a direct possession of Venice in 1444 rather than a vassal. Replace it with the Duchy of Leucadia (formerly the County Palatine of Cephalonia and Zakynthos) in Cephalonia, and Ionia (to represent the Septinsular Republic).

As long as we're making an "effort to make the games more user-friendly" any chance of making it so that returning to the main menu doesn't require reloading the entire game? Clicked single-player and meant to click multi-player? Too bad, the "back" button actually means "relaunch the game".

Man =/= Woman

Male advisors were common. Female not so much. Default is gold in game and silver is "special" because they are not common. There is no reason to change things. A man isn't a woman and vice versa.

Thank you Paradox :) While I would like to see the full patch notes sometime soon this DD has been the final step to get me to buy RoM. That is when I have 20 dollars around somewhere :p Also those female advisors for South American portraits look amazing.

Im still unsure of how you can convert (If you can) to christianity as totemist, animist or Fetishist

Jup, WBG (Würzburg) has ideas. WUR (Württemberg) doesn't.

It wouldn't be the first time Jake would prove how blind he is. ;)

Indeed I got my Würs mixed up. The real new ideas have been edited into my post and the Würzburg ones Stalin'd out.

Is the patch save game compatible or not?

Interestingly, I have not had any critical issues playing 1.17.1 saves on 1.18. Of course, Institution changes will throw all the tech penalties out of whack but from what I've seen the old saves are functional.

Mind you, it is never a guarantee that the savegames are compatible. If you are in any way attached to the full functionality of your savegame or are going for an achievement, I would recommend finishing your game on 1.17.1.

The Sudanese expedition is the one im going for as Morocco is my favourite nation!
About time the Turkish Minors had an achievement.
Turkish Delight is calling to me...I can feel it.

I'm glad they are appealing. I'm trying to avoid adding more "Conquer Germany as this OPM" or "Conquer the world" Achievements in favour of more interesting ones. Interesting in this case is, of course, highly subjective. I know there are people out there who can't get enough of their WCs.

While you are correct, I can't see Corfu being removed any time soon.

Since Westernisation is a relic of the past, the event conversion options have been shifted to decisions.

Western focus: It's a decision for Eastern and Ottoman Tech nations to Westernize for free if they conquer certain Western cities such as Wien.

Will we get something like this but instead of westernize get institution spread or something?

@Johan this is not primly for me. But maybe add additional button ingame and luncher so SP and MP have separate quick lunchs. There are people that have multiple games running, so this could be a nice feature for them to have. Or maybe get drop list sorted after latest changed.

On the topic of national ideas, can Zaporozhie be given the ability to raid coasts? They were very effective pirates; the first naval threat the Ottomans ever faced in the Black Sea. The Ottomans would station galleys at the mouth of the Dnieper river in order to prevent Cossacks from leaving the estuary, but this often failed and Cossacks snuck by with their smaller boats (called "chaikas") often raided all the way down south to places like Sinop, Trabzon and even Istanbul. The Cossacks even managed to hold Saint Ivan island for 8 years (a small island located in the Bay of Burgas in modern-day South Eastern Bulgaria). I think it would make total sense to have Zaporozhie be able to raid coasts.

Here is some info about Cossack piracy in the Black Sea: https://books.google.ca/books?id=8J...IdTAR#v=onepage&q=piracy in black sea&f=false

Also, Zaporozhie should be a tribal democracy, not steppe nomads. Cossacks didn't live in hordes, they weren't nomadic, and they elected their Ataman/Hetman. By the way, shouldn't OPM hordes be able to migrate like Native Americans? What are they called steppe "nomads" for if they can't migrate?
