HoI4 Dev Diary: A.E.I.O.U

A.E.I.O.U Diary.png

Greetings commanders!

As you’ll be aware, it has been a while since our last dev diary, and I’m super thrilled to finally release what we’ve been working on since No Step Back.

We take great pride in our attention to gameplay telemetry that we receive from keen HOI4 players from across the globe, and our data wizards regularly furnish us with relevant information with which to steer development of features. After NSB, we were informed of a clear and scientific trend in the data:

That’s right folks, it turns out that 99.5%* of you exclusively play monarchies. It was quite clear to us that we had a mandate to finally concede to public demand, and add the long-awaited Habsburg branch to the Generic focus tree!

*These results were verified by independent election officials.

Now, regardless of which nation you hold dear, you too can find and install a local member of the Habsburg dynasty, taking part in the restoration of everyone’s favorite neighborhood hegemony.

After discovering a stray member of the Habsburg dynasty, steer your nation to glory by choosing an appropriate spouse or accidentally inheriting some countries you weren’t aware existed.

No Habsburg tree would be complete without an edifying array of royal marriage candidates, so we’ve included plenty of historically accurate examples:

Once you have secured the bloodline, you can, naturally, expand your sights to join your relatives in other countries in vying for the ultimate prize:

As you might expect, every nation can now join and restore the Holy Roman Empire regardless of where they start.

In addition to the usual focus tree content, we’ll be expanding our ambitions somewhat! We’ll be including three new realistic continuous focuses to the Habsburg branch:

Ultimately we feel that this adds a great deal to the generic focus tree experience, importantly providing a thoughtful, plausible and historically inspired approach that you can enjoy with nations as far afield as you like.

A.E.I.O.U, folks!

I'd really like to have a monarchist/NA support advisor for nations with a monarch that don't have a custom/reworked focus tree yet. Just for more game options. Like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, or Italy

A nice, but overly sarcastic one. I mean, it was too obviously a joke that didn't fool anyone who read at least one line of the post.

Also, what have you actually been working on? ;)
The HOI4 Dating Sim, obviously.

So does that mean if I started as France, I get to invade myself? That'll be fun!

I unironically hope Mexico gets a Habsburg tree for Emperor Félix. Probably makes more sense than Maria Josepha Sophia and her daughters becoming Empresses at least.

I'm really looking forward to doing a dating mega-campaign when this and the Victoria Dating Sim comes out.

If my calculations are correct; if I start as an immortal ruler in CK3, my family should be one of the major ideologies by the time I reach HoI4.

I genuinly wish it was true, at least for countries with no focus tree atm/as a free expansion, kind of like "Poland, United and ready" or whatever the name was ://

Your comment gave me an idea. Probably an insane idea, so please keep your distance. I have no idea if I bite during moments of insanity. :D

When playing the game, the player is the leader of a nation. Maybe the generic tree could get an "ME" branch, such as, the leader of this minor country is ME.

This ME Branch could have a few choices of how I rose to power, the entourage I accumulated, and the form of government I will rule within. This would give me and my minor country certain buffs and debuffs, much like major powers have now. People with good imaginations could make this insanely entertaining.

Ok, I snapped out of it. I hope I did not hurt anyone.

"I want to stare into her bloodshot eyes, but her jaw... such a powerful jaw! And the way her drool runs down her chin as she breathes through her mouth... just looking at her, I know this is a pure-blooded girl!"

Back in the old days, I thought a custom nation feature similar to the one in EU4 could have been cool. And what I was especially looking for was some sort of modular generic focus tree. But beyond that I suppose you'd also be able to paint your country on the map, pick what states you want claims on and design flags.

So you could pick what kind of branches you wanted, what ideologies, how strong etc... So for Spain you'd pick the fascist-communist civil war branch and some lighter industrial stuff I guess. But you could also recreate a Mongol Empire, and give them something akin to the German tree in terms of industry and expansion routes. I'm sure all the Chinese warlords would agree to a Khanist anschluss, cores and everything.

And really, this could have been helpful for the devs as well since it would have allowed them to rapidly make semi-unique focus trees for ALL nations in the game.

But now that more and more countries have gotten their own focuses, it's feeling more and more redundant. Could still be a fun toy though.

Well....only Habsburgs?!!!!

Not all countries have this royal linage...or is interested in renew the Holy-Roman-Germanic empire.

All countries in Europe - Minor or Bigger countries- (with old linage, current or past gone) ought to have the possibility to r-implement the "old" royal linages of the past.

Please consider that.
