HoI4 Dev Diary: A.E.I.O.U

A.E.I.O.U Diary.png

Greetings commanders!

As you’ll be aware, it has been a while since our last dev diary, and I’m super thrilled to finally release what we’ve been working on since No Step Back.

We take great pride in our attention to gameplay telemetry that we receive from keen HOI4 players from across the globe, and our data wizards regularly furnish us with relevant information with which to steer development of features. After NSB, we were informed of a clear and scientific trend in the data:

That’s right folks, it turns out that 99.5%* of you exclusively play monarchies. It was quite clear to us that we had a mandate to finally concede to public demand, and add the long-awaited Habsburg branch to the Generic focus tree!

*These results were verified by independent election officials.

Now, regardless of which nation you hold dear, you too can find and install a local member of the Habsburg dynasty, taking part in the restoration of everyone’s favorite neighborhood hegemony.

After discovering a stray member of the Habsburg dynasty, steer your nation to glory by choosing an appropriate spouse or accidentally inheriting some countries you weren’t aware existed.

No Habsburg tree would be complete without an edifying array of royal marriage candidates, so we’ve included plenty of historically accurate examples:

Once you have secured the bloodline, you can, naturally, expand your sights to join your relatives in other countries in vying for the ultimate prize:

As you might expect, every nation can now join and restore the Holy Roman Empire regardless of where they start.

In addition to the usual focus tree content, we’ll be expanding our ambitions somewhat! We’ll be including three new realistic continuous focuses to the Habsburg branch:

Ultimately we feel that this adds a great deal to the generic focus tree experience, importantly providing a thoughtful, plausible and historically inspired approach that you can enjoy with nations as far afield as you like.

A.E.I.O.U, folks!

Back in the old days, I thought a custom nation feature similar to the one in EU4 could have been cool. And what I was especially looking for was some sort of modular generic focus tree. But beyond that I suppose you'd also be able to paint your country on the map, pick what states you want claims on and design flags.

Little off-topic, but not a while ago I was thinking, if it would be possible to make something like a focus tree creator? When You could choose by few clicks: debuffs, political routes, national spirits, etc, from predefined suggestions. Something similar had Football Manager - hardcore players with beast - PC could play even in 24 english division :)

Probably it was a bad idea, because making even very basic focus tree should take a few hours (few hours work for few hours play - it make no sense) plus it requires at least some basic knowledge about history of these countries, but it could be a interesting alternative, judging by how many countries could still receive dedicated focus trees :)

If I look at the Queen or all the other Monarchs in History, then I know why not to play that Countrys as Monarchies.

I like Hoi like it is with Democratics, Nationalists and Communists. Therefore the Focusses from the big Countrys, where is a Monarchy possible have it included.

Hoi 4 is no Monarch Game, but for some Countrys which had such before Communism, Democratic and 1 or 2 with Fashist the what if is interresting. There are other Games from Paradox as well as other Devolpers which play in the Monarch Timelines (from the earlyest Monarch-Time to the 18 / 19th-Century).

But the Idea as Generic for Countrys which hadn´t an Monarchy is not good and completely unrealistic. To hold the Scale the Devs have to upgrade the Democraty, Fashist and Communist Parts there too in that Generic Focus Tree. Some of them had of course an Monarchy or something similar (like the Arabic-States), but Habsburg for all? Realy?!

That´s the Reason why I say, this an bad April-Joke.

I play Hungary or Austria only, yes I have played others but those two are my favs. Improve the tech tree yes, but there are other suggestions too. How about a little more historical accuracy with units especially air units for Hungary. Most of their aircraft after using up the outdated Italian machines was German manufactured under license. THe WM23 was never used nor the RMI's. BF 109, Fw 190's Ju 88's Me 110 night fighters etc. How about a DLC pack with those? I'd pay for that. But glad you're going in this direction, Imperial! Yes!
