HOI4 Dev Diary - Beta Patch Update IV

Hi guys, another week another patch update. We are now focusing on stabilizing it and preparing it for release once its gone through testing.

A cool thing we have added this week is new 3d models for Spain and Portugal. All the different civil war sides in Spain now look different. Here is a fancy render of what they look like in detail:

- fixed civil war flags not being cleared when country is annexed by an effect and causing script issues
- fixed some occupation modifiers wrongly being applied after loading a save game
- impassable terrains no longer has resistance
- fixed some issues with resources that was causing inconsistencies with the last added resource type
- "Give up Baleares" and "Refuse to Give up Baleares" events are now fired to Italy instead of Spain.
- fixed china uprising decision not working in some cases
- France should no longer abandon all bonds of fellowship by leaving their faction if they decide to support the Czechs together with Britain, because IT IS NOT THIS DAY
- The EU should now correctly gain cores on Belgium and the Netherlands, Byzanthium and Imperium Romanum now also both gain cores on new states that were previously missing
- Airwing duplication now also copies missions as well as the "auto turn off" training setting
- fixed some bugs that was changing resistance country (by cancelling and recreating resistance) not working
- Evade Blockade decisions will now be properly removed after a country capitulates.
- Germany and Soviet air volunteers can fight each other in the civil war
- Fix a case where carrier combat disruption was not working
- Gibraltar will not generate resistance to any Spanish nation if it is transferred during the SCW.

- added 'lack of fuel' icon for combat view for the divisions that are lacking fuel

- neutral ai countries won't create collaborations unless it is past 1944 and they are at peace

- added support for highlight_state_targets for decisions which is a script target that can be used for highlighting states. should give improved performance if used instead of highlight_states
- decision scripted guis now supports dirty var as well.
- event effects now accepts variables as its duration entries
- Enabled 3D mesh lookup based on a country's cosmetic tag before checking its true tag.

- fixed an issue where France would start out with too low war support if Man The Guns was not active
- Vichy France is now informed if any colonial territories are taken over by Free France
- Several new Spanish advisors are now at the service of the different Spanish factions. POUM will also receive a field marshal and two generals upon completion of Masters of Our Own Fate focus.
- Brazilian Fascist party will become an Anti-Monarchist Coalition when Portugal completes the focus Monarchist Uprising in Brazil.
- Added general Jose Asensio Torrado to the Spanish roster, so he can finally show up his cool portrait.
- Fixed missing portrait for Spanish general in vanilla.
- Fixed unlocalized option in one of the Spanish civil war news events.
- Spanish Election of 1936 events will now get the current Spanish leader, Niceto Alcala-Zamora.
- Updated BLR division names to use Belarusian instead of Russian.
- Added in decision category art for generic formable nations.
- The UK will now prioritize giving Gibraltar, if possible, to SPD, then SPA, then SPB and, only if no other Spanish tag exists, to SPC when they complete "Withdraw from Contested Territories" focus.

- Fix sound effect for light armour fire. Now it has more DAKKA

To highlight some changes: We have restricted collaboration regimes further for AI, but opened it up more for players and fixed various issues with guarantee and event chains. We have also added support for accessibility features in multiplayer, like increased font sizes, notifications and text to speech support:

Is Communist Japan going to be fixed anytime soon? It's been unplayable past the civil war for a long, long time.

Immediately after winning the civil war, you are given a war goal against yourself, and the game thinks you are still in a civil war. You subsequently cannot go any further down the communist national focus branch as the three focuses following 'Roll the Dice' all require that you are not in a civil war, and you lose all of your decisions as well.

In single player you can bypass this by using some console commands to ignore focus checks, but there is no way to get your decisions back that I'm aware of.
It might have been fixed inadvertently I will check as they said they fixed some civil war scripting issues
 
I think it was written like that because that was the test case ;) as far as I know the general case was fixed that stopped volunteers engaging

I did some testing yesterday and yes ITA air volunteers are figthing against SOV air volunteers now, but there is still the very urgent problem about xp gain for fighters. What i noticed now very clearly, since SOV sends only TAC or CAS for the SCW, that fighters don't gain ANY xp from anti bomber missions. Please please take a look.

The Anarchist model is by far the best looking in my opinion, one hell of a job guys!

I do have a question though, by any chance could we get unique models for tanks too? Dont know too much about to historical usage of Spanish tanks but I'd love to see the Red and Black flag painted on the side of one

Easy naval pic for this week - here's an aircraft carrier that's been very heavily disrupted (I know, not the same thing as the mechanic, but these bugfix DDs are tricky for naval pics :p)!

Why a country that it had a coup by foreign spies continue to fight against the countries with the same new ideology?. Why it cannot break or change alliance during the war?. What is it the sense of the spy agency if i must invade a nation and occupy it completely even after a regime change only because it had prevously started the war against me?.

This, changing the government of a country should drop it of all current wars and leave its faction.

Will the SCW be fixel so the anarchist uprising is crushed instead of it succeding in every historical game when it shouldn't?

It breaks both the SCW (which end too quickly because of it) and the historical inmersion.

Never seen this happen in my game.
The Nationalists won in every single of my playthroughs, as they should.
Do you happen to be playing as Germany Italy or Portugal and neglected sending support? If so then maybe that's why.

The devs devs already nerfed the Anarchists, by giving their divisions half the starting equipment. Not sure if it was implemented yet or not, if not then just wait and try again. If yes, then maybe you have just been unlucky.
 
My bad, I didn't mean that, what I meant was that in the republican side, the uprising always succes in 1937 (when in reality it failed), and thus a three way civil war always happens, when it souldn't.

Oh, then you are definitely right, since in my playthroughs the Anarchists do always trigger a 3-way civil war.

I don't know if there is an article in english, but the wiki in spanish has this one (I suppose google translator could be use)

It lasted from the 3th to the 8th of may, it was more a thing of Barcelona and some minor conflicts.

In fact the Consejo de aragon was other thing, it did not form in this failed revolt I can understand that in an alt history scenario it could play a different role, but the real one was this:

It's quite an interesting read, but the depiction ingame in hiatorical it not accurate, the focus to crush the revolution should be taken by the republic so the revolution does not fire.

I'm pretty sure the Anarchist uprising happens in historical mainly to ensure that Nationalist Spain wins without having to make them OP compared to Republican Spain (Therefore making it so they'll win most of the time in non-historical as well), not because of any historical reason.

That's not quite correct; The Francoists can prevent the internal civil war - and only them. That is to abstract/emulate/depict the fact that Franco was capable of plastering over the cracks on the Nationalist side. While the Republicans fought themselves rather too much. Taking Franco out of the equation would probably result in an increase in infighting on Nationalist side.
That was pretty explicitly stated in the dev diaries, though.
 
While playing with Anarchist Spain in both versions, there is a problem when you finished the focus tree:
You are suposed to unlock 2 new decisions: core all your non-cored states and set up anarchist rebellions in the surrounding countries.
The coring decision is great, but it works only with your initial occupied states (equatorial guinea, north africa) and the portuguese colonies like mozambique or angola when you form the Iberian defense council. The problem is that any country I have invaded and signed a peace treaty with, I am not able to core their territories. The other problem is that there isn't any message in the political decisions pannel, like coring the spanish states messages at the end of the SCW, to know which states I can core, the only way to see it is by opening the PD pannel and looking in to the map, which is a mess.
The other main problem is that whenever you finish the focus to set up anarchist rebellions, nothing happens. There isn't any new decision to take, this is a big issue because it makes this focus useless. I have even tried to build a good espionage agency, but nothing happens, I'm still not able to set up anarchism rebellions :(:(:(
Please, fix this issues because Anarchist Spain is a very interesting nation!!

Can you patch up permanent ideology drift ? In Czechoslovakia democratic and comunist drift is permanent and yf you meake them comunist and they go with light of freedom they whill slowly change ideology. Also nev spye busting ideology is pure in compared to standard boost by PP. Spyes bust ideology so slow sometmes i regard to buy La Rezistance.

Today as Fascist France I saw Germany attacking Luxemburg and the Netherlands without British intervention after Germany not daring to attack Poland, and after being defeated, instead of annexed by Germany, they were just puppeted.

There were too many odd things there: Germany not attacking, UK not defending and Germany not annexing.

I'm not completely opposed for Al-Andalus, but it's a silly that they Al-Andalus exists but not some "France-Spain", "Franco-Spanish Empire" or "French-Spanish Union" etc, tag to represent a united empire.
