Stellaris Dev Diary #278 / Stellaris Dog Diary #1 - Release the Hounds

Hi everyone!

Short dev diary today - the team is hard at work putting together a patch for a selection of what we deemed the more critical issues that have come up in 3.6.0, tentatively scheduled for next week.

Among a few other things we're looking at, we're currently investigating the launcher issue that falsely flags all DLC as corrupted, have a few crash fixes ready, and several ship sizes that lacked role definitions (such as Menacing ships) will now have them. As a little quality of life balance change, I also snuck in a speed increase to Juggernauts, making them move at the same max speed as Battleships and Titans.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the stability and quality of the release, which is a positive argument for future open betas in the same style. Thanks for all of your help making this a solid release.

Wondering what is in 3.6 "Orion"? Here's a summary of what's in the 3.6 Update on the Stellaris YouTube channel:

Since I'm not quite ready to talk about what's in Canis Minor yet, here are some puppy pictures to act as a clever distraction.

Dog!

Sleepy dog.

See you next week!

EDIT:
We have become aware of a crash on startup, that we're currently looking at fixing in 3.6.1. If some of you are experiencing crashing on-startup, and have an empire with a field (empire name, adjective, leader name, etc) that contains special characters (eg. <>$[]), this will cause a crash on-loading the game. We have prepared a list of workarounds to fix this issue, organized by level of difficulty, with 1 being the easiest and 4 being the most involved:

1. Rename or remove the user directory. The user directory is typically located at "C:/username/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/" on Windows, "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/" on GNU/Linux and "/Users/username/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/" on Mac OS X. WARNING: This will clear any settings, saves and user empires you may have changed/created.
2. Rename or remove the user_empire_designs_v3.4.txt in the user directory. WARNING: This will clear any user empires you may have created.
3. Edit the user_empire_designs_v3.4.txt file in the user directory to have no fields like names, adjectives etc. that includes <>$[].
4. Edit any field containing any of <>$[] characters from name="We love blorg <3" or
Code:
name={
    key="We love blorg <3"
}
to
Code:
name={
    key="We love blorg <3"
    literal=yes
}

For the “Divine Sovereign” event, which happens if you have a leader with a “Chosen One” trait, could it be possible to have the event if you have an Imperial government.
Currently, you have to change government if you want the event and the unique civic that comes with it.

I have to ask, is anything ever going to be done about the fleet manager's absolute ironclad insistence on queuing massive numbers of ships in the Jugg's two building docks while leaving the other 50 docks scattered around the empire completely idle? I stopped even building juggernauts until I made a mod that completely disables the shipyard.

The answer to anything related to the fleet manager has always, since its inception, been "never use the fleet manager".

It's bad enough that federation/custodian fleets insist on reinforcing automatically, inevitably sending single titans through Unbidden systems to their doom. I can't imagine the frustration if my personal fleets were also out of my direct control.

I just played only 1 game so far so IDK if it's a persistent issue or a one-off bug, but passing Development Aid galactic community resolution (from the Politic tradition tree) disabled the effect of Champion of the Community (also from the same tree), even though Champion is still listed as active on the resolution list.

Just to check is there a fix on the way for the crash affecting mods overwriting parts of a file? Currently causes mods such as gigastructures to crash on startup randomly a lot of the time.

Yes.

(For any confused modder out there: if you individually overwrite a particular game object (could be more or less any of them), and that object uses certain kinds of modifiers - specifically ones like scripted_modifiers that are generated from the script databases - it may/will crash on startup. This is fixed in 3.6.1).

You have to take The Crisis ascension and then progress to get the menacing ships before one gets confronted with the issue. So obviously no one did that.
No you have to write an autmatic test that controlls if all ships have the expected values.
And when a design change like this happens this tests needs to be adjusted and then plop of and showing that the ships do not have those values.

Is that what's crashing on startup with specific mods on M1 / Mac like Gigastructures?

(And does your team have an M1 Mac to build & test on?)

This minor canis is an adorable foreshadowing.

Moar Dog Diaries plz!

Hope you can fix the 'alien federations not showing in contacts list' bug for 3.6.1. That's a pretty big one. Reported by someone else but I'm also encountering it.

edit: I added a savegame and some more details to someone else's original report, here

Nice doggo.
