It sounds great, lots of additional customization and rp options!

However...

...
Each time you complete a Tradition tree, you will unlock one Ascension Perk slot, of which there are 8 in total. There may also be other ways to unlock slots
...

As posted in the previous dev diary there will be only seven tradition trees (expansion, domination, prosperity, harmony, supremacy, purity, exploration). I hope that there will be lots of other ways to unlock the slots. Having to fill in all the tradition trees would mean that all the end-game empires will look the same as far as the traditions are concerened. Not good for rp and customization. Xenophiles having to fill in the Purity tree and Pacifists going for the Supremacy.

Also, will there be an Ascension victory condition for empires that are not aiming for galactic conquest?

Perhaps your goal is to go all-in on AI, replacing the frail biological bodies of your pops with immortal machines, or to harness the psionic potential of your species and reach a higher form of existence, allowing your empire to tap into other planes of being?

The Synthetic Path focuses on the replacement of biology with machinery. The first level allows you to turn your population partly synthetic through the use of cybernetics, while the second level replaces your biological pops with robots, turning your empire entirely synthetic.

will traditions be permanent like in EU4 or changable with a high cost like EU3?
or atleast be changeable by significantly massive rebellions or something?

Presumably they can be swapped around somehow, because otherwise the utility of picking Traditions counter to your current Ethics in order to change your ethics would be pretty limited.

I don't really have a problem with ascension perks being an expansion DLC only feature, since you only need one person in the entire thing to have the dlc for everyone playing to get access to it as I recall.

@Wiz Pls tell me the psionic route is not restricted to spiritualists. I want to roleplay the stargate ancients who ascended and they could not be farther from being spiritualist. And seriously the Ori suck :(

also spiritualists who go the cybernetics route would be cool.

I imagine it's just locked to grabbing psionics at all. Spiritualists are most likely to grab it but not the only ones who can.

anyone as far as I know can get Psionics its just that Spiritualists are much more attuned to psionics than the others and as mentioned more likely to get psionics before the others

Question: can choosing an Ascension cause a division in your empire if pops are unhappy/have differing ethics than the choice you made?

For example, if I choose to start putting cybernetic implants in everyone will the spiritualists in my empires colonies attempt a war of independence which, if successful, allows them to become their own empire and choose their own Ascension?

Because that would be awesome. Especially if they chose the organic route, and eventually my robot pops went to war against their super evolved organic outcast brethren! THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!

Are there going to be different potential branches for each path?
For example what if I don't want to go down the Cybermen or Borg route, maybe I want my people to be able to upload themselves to the internet.

Another question.
Will their be a diiference in how much this can be implemented at a time for different ethos?
Like if your collectivist will you have the option to force gene-modding or augmentation on your pops? Or perhaps ban it outright?
Or if you're individualist will you be barred from this and let people freely choose?

Does this mean completing the ascension perks put us on the same level as ascended (unfallen) empires?

If we are to take Ascension literally then Fallen Empires are, in the game, Stagnant Ascendancies, they are very powerful, tall empires who likely stagnated halfway through completing their Ascendency Perks, when they Awaken that does not necessarily mean that they have Ascended, it may mean that they are simply awake and active again. I think that when you complete your ascendency you become like more like the Unbidden, AI Revolt, or Prethoryn, which might make you even more powerful than Fallen Empires. though some people disagree and don't think that that's what Ascension does, the clues left in the Dev Diary seem to indicate that ascending to a higher state of being like the End Crises is likely the purpose of Ascension. That would be my guess.
