I'm still awaiting for @Wiz to answer my question about if you're told what faction your starting ruler will be part of, or if it's random!

I feel that we should know what faction our starting ruler is part of.

Also, I'm both dreading and looking forward to Banks update and Utopia DLC.

Or the first ruler might not be part of a faction at all, considering that factions pop up in the course of gameplay. Whether they join a faction in the next election (if your government does hold elections), I have no idea.

Although, I wonder how it works with Imperial rule where the heir (hereditary or appendage picked) is the successor rather than an elected leader.

I find it weird that a hive-mind, which even the devs say would be psionically linked, can't get the shroud path. They would probably be the closest to the shroud due to their natural born psionic abilities and given the numerous minds of a hive-mind that are capable of creating a huge galactic empire would have more psionic power then the individuals of a non-hive mind.

Sure I can get synthetic but psionic just seems one of their natural talents. I could also make the claim that some of the shrouds denizens would be a hive-mind like the whisperers who are describes as many voices speaking as one.

But eh, it can be 'fixed' with mods

Or maybe it's just an excuse to not make an alternate The Shroud flavor text specifically for them.

Oh I hope so! And they better let us name our empires! Which reminds me, I need to make a copy of my edited name lists. And take screenshots of all the pre-Banks governments so I can remember them by! And to help me with roleplaying.

Also, a shame we can't take over planets like this

I love that episode! That would be super cool but I doubt they could integrate something like that.

IDK it just seems that way from the dev diary.

How it happened with cKnoor was they showed the exact system that Wiz talks about and cKnoor got renamed automatically when he did his government reform. He changed it back like normal. This happens if you adopt the advanced government forms (Neural Network Administration, etc.) already, though.

I can see that getting annoying fast, there should be an option somewhere, maybe a checkbox someplace, to keep the current empire name regardless of government reform.

From Wiz's reaction it seemed like it was never intended to affect player empires in the first place. It's probably a bug and going to be fixed.

Actually most scientific and professional spheres have some authorities or expert groups to define terms. Because when the precise meaning of a term matters to their work, relying on "most will read it the right way" is just not feasible.

I argued with a guy who attacked a person for using a term in what that guy deemed was a wrong way. He claimed that "a hivemind" is a term used purely in science fiction (which is wrong, for example it is used in sociology with a completely different meaning) and claimed that in science fiction a hive mind always implies a single sentient consciousness (which is also wrong, because the use of that term in science fiction became much broader since its introduction in the old sci fi stories). And casual generic chat about a videogame is neither scientific, nor professional, because sci fi video games arent science with established scientific terms. If a person calls xenomorphs from the Alien a hive mind he isnt wrong, because thats the term used in the Alien sci fi books and thats the term the Alien fans have been using for ages. If a person uses the term hive mind in a casual conversation about bees, meaning that bees have a swarm intelligence, not a single supreme consciousness, than that person is also right, because he got the proper meaning.

In the Stellar Starfish game, I believe Cknoor's original empress(?) ended up joining/creating/leading his very first faction, which was Authoritarian.

Ah I see. Which video is that on? I'm just curious.

Still I wonder if the faction your starting ruler is a part of is determined by the window? For example, his race's window has the one for Collectivist/Authoritarian ethos...

So if you're window is the Militarist one it's probably a good bet that your starting ruler will be a part of the Militarist faction.

Now that's just a theory and I could be completely wrong.

But I also hope we get a mod that'll let us do all three Ascension paths! That way I can get Gene Warriors and then turn around and take both Ascension slots for Psionic Ascension! I do hope they let us mod that part.

Then again Gene Warriors could be for everyone. I'll guess we'll find out next week.

Hm....I just realized something: if non Hivemind pops die in a Hivemind empire, if said Empire builds robots, will the robots be dismantled since they aren't part of the Hivemind species?

Yea they'll like each other, which is why wiz said a player would have to do it on purpose. That would be epic though, placing two of them to become allies and your end game boss

And everyone loves a goodl end game boss fight (except when it is almost impossible to win...:()!
