Hello, and welcome one more week to Tinto Flavour, the happy Fridays where we share with you the flavourish content of the super secret Project Caesar!

Today we will take a look at one of my favourite countries to playtest the game, the Kingdom of Hungary!:

For centuries, the great Kingdom of Hungary defended the border of Christendom from the pagans and heathens beyond it. Recent noble rebellions put this duty in danger, but thanks to the iron hand of King d’Angiò Karoly, the disgruntled nobles have been reined back under his rule and the Christian bastion is renewed and reinforced.

However, the future of Hungary is not to dwell in peace, as already new trouble is brewing in the southeast that will challenge the strength of the Regnum Marianum.

What fate awaits for the Kingdom of Hungary? Will it fall to the enemies of the faith? Or will it stand proud before the waves of those who seek its demise?

Country Selection.png

We are currently working to have a more settled dynastic flavour, but for the moment, the House of Anjou is taking its naming from the Italian variant of it, since it’s the main House, so take it as WIP; as any UI, 2D and 3D art, as usual.

Here is Hungary:
Hungary.png

And its starting diplomatic situation:
Diplomacy.png

Poland is allied, while Croatia is in a personal union. Not shown on the map (yet) is that Hungary is embargoing Austria, as a result of the pact made with Bohemia.

Hungary has a few interesting interesting starting privileges:
Monetary Fiefs.png

This is not a unique privilege, but a generic one that we created taking into account Hungary’s situation in 1337; a few countries across Europe also start with it enacted.

Invite German Settlers.png

We already showed this privilege in Tinto Flavour #1, if you remember.

By having it active, it may trigger this recurrent event:
Invite German Settlers2.png

Invite German Settlers3.png

Classical flavour Parliament:
Orszaggyules.png

And starting works of art:
Works of Art.png

Here are some interesting advances for Hungary:
Realm of Many Cultures.png

This advance helps Hungary manage all the different cultures it starts with and also portrays a historical policy followed by many Hungarian kings in the Middle Ages.

Cumans!

Found the Black Army.png

Hungarian Black Army.png

Among the several options we had available to portray the infamous Black Army, we decided upon making them a regular Infantry unit. We thought about making it a unique mercenary company, but since they were usually directly on the payroll of the Hungarian kings, we thought that it would work better as a recruitable unique unit.

A couple of war-oriented advances for the Age of Reformation:
Bulwark of Christianity.png

Hungarian Hussars.png

Hungarian Hussars2.png

There’s a generic Hussar cavalry unit, that is available in the Age of Absolutism. This means that Hungary gets its unique Hussar cavalry unit one age earlier. They aren’t the only country with unique Hussar units, but we will show those in future Tinto Flavour…

Also in the Age of Reformation, you will get these advances depending on which religion you follow; the first is for a Catholic Hungary, and the other two for a Protestant Hungary:
Catholic Shield.png

Hungarian Reformation.png

Realm of Many Religions.png

We will explain what ‘Religious Influence’ and ‘Church Power Actions’ are in the Tinto Talks devoted to Catholicism and Protestantism, respectively. For the moment, we let you decide which religion is the True Faith, and which are Heretical and Heathen to you.

Let’s now move to the narrative content for Hungary, which is really interesting in the first years of a game, since lots of historical events happened in real life...

Soon after the start of the game, you’ll get this event, showing the power of King Károly:
Absolute Rule.png

Absolute Rule2.png

Absolute Rule3.png

Absolute Rule4.png

An additional Cabinet Seat during the king’s life is a really strong bonus!

This event may also trigger on a dynamic date:
Congress of Visegrad.jpg

Congress of Visegrad2.png

Union of Crown.png

This eventually may lead to a follow-up event, which also unlocks a unique diplomatic relation:
Congress of Visegrad3.png

Union of Crowns Pact.png

It doesn’t necessarily mean that both may unite, if both have an heir, as historically happened. For instance, this is from the gameplay I was doing to take the screenshots:
Regency.png

During the reign of King Lajos, a few more interesting events happened:
Gold of Hungary.png

Gold of Hungary2.png

Gold of Hungary3.png

Gold of Hungary4.png

A very interesting event… I reported no less than 4 issues to fix when it got triggered!

Order of Saint George.png

Order of Saint George2.png

An interesting character to recruit…:
Toldi Miklos.png

Oh, and you may also be a secondary character in a Neapolitan plot…:
Neapolitan Prince.png

…And much more, but that’s all for today! Next week, on Monday we will have the Tinto Maps Feedback for Arabia, and on Friday we will take a look at the Kingdom of Scotland! @SaintDaveUK and @Roger Corominas will reply instead of me for the later, as I have to take a flight that afternoon. Cheers!

Will Hungary be able to set up the Order of the Dragon as a military order tag!
There's an event about the Order of the Dragon, as an Order of Chivalry.

Can we have some information about Croatia?
What is its income, is the Ban at the head of state, and does Croatia have additional content (flavour)?
Sadly, Croatia was not one of the countries we could devote time to. Here you have the country overview:

1) Will Jadwiga (Hedwig d'Anjou) show up via the Polish-Hungarian union event?
2) Idea: add an unhistorical formable for a Poland-Hungary Commmonwealth
3) ctrl+f Transylvania ctrl+f Transylvania ctrl+f Transylvania ctrl+f Transylvania ctrl+f Transylvania WHERE IS TRANSYLVANIA
It's a releasable country - I just did it and took this in-game screenshot:

No flavor for an orthodox Hungary?

Also how often does Transylvania become a vassal ?
1. We're focusing mostly on historical content.
2. It depends on how Hungary and its neighbors are performing, it's not something scripted, but that may happen organically.

Also can pope Julius II have his famous beard? Even if he only had it a limited time that’s what he is known for visually speaking. If that is him, not sure what the Theron stands for
It's not that Julius II. I ran the game for a few years to take proper screenshots, so the Pope died, and the new one elected his name from the pool of extant Papal names, which is of course historical... :D

Question: The bulwark of Christendom advance. what if no Turkish Beylik is able to best the Romans of Byzantium? and thus the balkans remains christian? ie byzantium resurgence. Seems odd to be the bulwark when you aren't being threatened by non-christians.
It may happen, and it may be a bit immersion-breaking. But it's also true that Hungarian kings historically their kingdom a bastion of Christendom against eastern threats, so in that regard, we think that it keeps making sense, flavour-wise.

Has the pop editor been fixed for the upcoming TM review?
1. Good news, yes, the pop editor has been fixed!
2. Bad news (FTM): We think that at this stage, is more efficient for our workflow to keep working on the review of most aspects, and then we'll make the pop review (both on population size and minorities) all at once. We have already been bookmarking all the relevant and helpful posts in all Tinto Maps posts, so we won't lose any information during the process, just make it differently, workflow-wise.

Are union of the crown policy usually made to last for only one king lifespan, or do they usually stay between their heirs until one eventually has no heir ?

Also I hope it was "exploit-tested", and you can't just revoke the policy without the other country having some sort of lowered trust / opinion (even worse than what they'd have if you never took the policy and the option, so not just removing the bonus to trust and opinion the reform gives in itself)
It lasts until one of the countries change it (and both need to agree with it in the event options to get it implemented, previously).

With the new personal union mechanism you showed us in a Tinto Talk, who would be the "leader" of the union chosen by the parliament in general? Hungary or Poland? Can the player voluntarily do everything to kill himself and thus have a union with the other country or is this not a feasible strategy?
They would start at the same level. Then one of the partners could become the Senior one.

Do more countries have the union of crowns successions? And will the game also represent the breaking of the union with Lajos' daughters each inheriting Poland and Hungary separately?
It's a unique one.

Will their be any chance for Hungary to try to inheirt from it's Naples branch of the family if they have some untimely deaths.
Hmm, it might be possible, although a few deaths may happen, yeah...

Does this mean that there wouldn’t be any content for say, an Al-Andalus or a resurgent Byzantium other than their existence?
In general terms, it's not something we're leaning towards having by the release of the game, although there are some exceptions for some 'plausible' scenarios.

@Pavía I know that it's not just related to Hungary but how do scripted historical mercenary companies work? Like John Hawkwood for Florence, does he appear as a recruitable commander in the area of Tuscany which only Florence can hire? And what about his troops, are they pops of Florence or do they come from England?

2. White Company as shown in the second line of the tooltip

I assume stuff is WIP, but just to check, will there be late period clothing(at least, for some cultures)? Seeing an 18th century noble dressed in rennaisance type clothes is unfortunate.
We'd like to have more clothing style per ages, eventually, but we're currently aiming to have base clothing sets for all the graphical cultures first.

Forgot to mention this in my original comment, but since it was confirmed in Tinto Talks 40 that the Golden Bull of 1222 is in the game, could we see what it actually does?
Yes:
Golden Bull of 1222-2.png

There's an event to re-enact it, which I didn't end up showing it in the TF since the two event options and the Bull itself may need some balancing, and we already had enough events in this TF.
