Now... I wonder how Chris King and his team will solve the problem of intermarriages in the family tree design. I hope there will not be a duplication of descendants in cases of intermarriage. If for instance two cousins marriy, and you click on their children there will only be one place to find this offspring - perhaps following the father's line?

I'm sure they'll think of a system

After all they will want to use this in EU:Rome II too, and there you need to be able to have proper Ptolemaic inbreeding depicted :D

You mean something like this:

;)

Though IMHO inbreeding fires too easily in CK1, second cousins should be okay, and many first cousins are, too, and historically an occasional uncle-niece marriage, but it should be the compounded genes and if there are genetic problems in the bloodline. Though in the case of animals, two generations or so of inbreeding does produce smaller and less normal acting offspring.

I agree - I tried to make a proper inbreeding game and at one stage my characters simply became infertile and my vast family through 6-7 generations dwindled down to three-four inbred and stuttering characters...

In cases of intermarriages, I would like to see a need for papal approval since this was normal at the time, even for distant counsins such as fourth or fifth cousins. A "donation" to the Popoe would secure a match between two cousins, and there would be no disputes over the legitimacy of the marriage or offspring since papal authorithy has confirmed the marriage.

The overview of the Habsburgs is the kind of system I'd like to see in CKII! A character should only appear ONCE in the family tree.

My main concern is that in case of intermarriage it would be very frustrating if the same characters/offspring occur several places in the same family tree - it would make it impossible to hold a good overview of the family ties and it would get even worse as the generations progress.

My suggestion is that children from intermarriage should follow the male line (not trying to be chauvinistic, only practical).

Good point - those Ptolemaics make the mafia seem like children in a sandbox. And all ladies are called Arsinoe, Berenice or Cleopatra.
