Here's the latest Video Dev Diary with Game Designer Chris King. This one emphasizes the portrait system of the game. Enjoy!

I shall create the De-nozed Habsburg Dynasty! HAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

Thanks for the video! I enjoy these little previews of the game in action.

it only shows one heir, will you be able to, by say clicking on the word heir or in a tip, see the line of succession? knowing the order further than just the primary is an important thing some times.

I think I saw some pictures and videos where you could see at least another two "pretenders" (perhaps at realm law screen?) and a comment stating that those two along with the heir will react to changing the succession law.

Very nice. A few interesting bits, such as the "Half the skill values of their spouse are added to the ruler's" tooltip.
Cool - I missed that one.

I'm sorry if this answer is obvious, but this does not replace the Dev Diary for every first thurday of the month does it?

Sorry, been away for awhile and am not quite sure.

None of the other Vid DDs have replaced that month's "real" DD :)

Will being (heavily) inbred affect the genetics of a character and therefore the portrait of said person? And how will it go from a family with no inbreds to inbreeding through generations?

I really look forward to this game

To King, or anyone who can speak on the matter as well.

I noticed in the video, when clicking on the Pope's portrait, that he has a ward, and when clicked on, he is shown to be her guardian.

Can you please elaborate on this relationship, does it happen by event, or can you choose perhaps?

I think that she is his fosterling. Popes acted like feudal lords in many ways, this among them.

That would make sense, untill after combing the video more, the King of France has a guardian, who looks to be a simple courtier, as I couldn't see any title border.

On a slightly different note, King did mention once in a commentary that your wife can assassinate you to become regent. Could this have something to do with this ward/guardian relationship?

Does the patronymic system apply for the other patronymic-using cultures in CK2 as well (not just Norse)?

AFAIK, the only other cultures that have been confirmed are English (e.g., Harold Godwinson) and the Irish (which will get the "mac" prefix). I'm sure it'll be moddable, but some languages like Castilian has so many irregularities, I don't see it working well without some detailed scripting. For example, Diaz is the son of Diego, Alonso is the son of Alfonso, Fernandez is the son of Fernando. I have suggested that we use the generic "son of" or "daughter of" for irregular cases, or if you wanna be fancy, us the Latin "filius" to denote parentage.

EDIT: On the character screen, will we see all four grandparents when they are known or just one set? Looking better each time I watch the video.

Well it seems that kids are assigned to a specific character in court. So maybe you can send your kid to Castille and get tutored by El Cid?? :) ... would probably be better than the king himself anyways.

If you look at the video, you can see some of the characters have 4 grand-parents shown in the character screen ... so that would probably be a yes :)
