Second week and a second dev diary! We will continue for this week as well to discuss new patch features and changes.

I'll start with some more quality of life changes we've done with the right-click menu to make interactions with various entities in the game even more smooth. For starters we've finally removed the capital letters in the tooltip to hint about how to now interact with characters, but that's not really a big deal. We have also extended the menu to now include actions such as plot to kill in this menu to make life a little bit easier.

DD_2.jpg

But we didn't end there because we also felt that you should be able to interact more with holdings and titles so we added it to them as well, including a decision to switch what you want as your capital holding. Obviously the bishopric of Uppsala should be the capital of Sweden now that the capital holding type doesn't matter for government anymore.

There's also a thing that has been very difficult to do in Crusader Kings 2 is to get a visual overview of your realm and its hierarchy which is why we have merged the Independent Realms mapmode and Direct Vassals mapmode into one superior mapmode which combine the both plus some more. Let's have a look at the Holy Roman Empire and his realm.

DD_3.jpg

To now see the breakdown of this realm you Ctrl+Left Click on a province on the map belonging to the Empire and it will break up in-front of you to show you what hides within. Showing you the various duchies and counts beneath the Emperor. Pretty standard to how the Direct Vassal mapmode works but you can isolate it to one realm at a time.

DD_4.jpg

But let's say you want to look deeper into the hierarchy and break up the Kingdom of Bohemia to view what duchies and counties that it contains? You just click it again and this sub realm will also be broken apart to reveal the King's own direct vassals letting you examine your vassals vassals.

And like Doomdark did last week I'll finish up with some random snippets from our huge Changelog

- Several Lovers events now checks that ruler/spouse/lover isn't incapable/imprisoned
- Rügen, Öland and Djerba are no longer considered to be ocean terrain provinces.
- You'll no longer try to talk to your dead children when you have the family focus.
- It is now possible to gain the Crusader/Mujahid trait as a character of any religion participating in a Crusade/Jihad.
- To become a cardinal you have to be within the pope's diplomatic range
- Can no longer enforce plot to take vassal land if he is in revolt.
- Go tiger hunting no longer disappears after creating a custom Empire in India.
- Fixed get married ambition for homosexuals.
- Now we have visual indicator when settlement slots are being used by tribals
- Paranoid parents should no longer worry about potential plots against dead children.
- Lovers in prison can no longer get impregnated normally
- Anglo-Saxons are now also allowed to create the Kingdom of Saxony

That's all the code changes/bug fixes you're going to give us?
What happened to the 600 gorillian lines of code changes?

I need my fix!

@Groogy
Go tiger hunting no longer disappears after creating a custom Empire in India.

I'm curious how this was fixed. As I recall, the reason that this doesn't work is that the decision is tied to de jure realms in India. Is this now tied to the hundreds of counties in India or do all counties now have a hidden geographic region which determines decisions?

Will delve into this in another diary maybe.

Homosexual penalty should be removed for Cathars and maybe other religions that historically had an apathetic view towards the issue, such as Buddhism etc. It would be also be cool if some sort of Valkyrie event was add to Norse pagans where a woman educated by someone in the martial field has a random chance of becoming a Valkyrie. Shouldn't be too controversial since we know for a fact now that there were indeed female 'vikings' albeit in a smaller ratio to their male counter parts.

Edit: Er..uhm.. actually Shield Maiden might be a better term.

Thanks for the DD. I appreciate the ongoing effort here. Seeing as the final changelog is going to be massive, perhaps, mighty Groogy, you could share some lines between diaries to keep us on our toes/the forum lively?

I'm hoping the expanded plotting opportunities available in mods won't suffer from the interface change. Also, I think the feudal government type icon looks a bit daft, but I'll get used to it.

Yes Shield Maiden would be a far better term. I'm asuming you noticed your little blunder.
Brilliant idea, though.

Do you know what a Valkyrie is?

A regular human woman can't "become/isn't" a Valkyrie. They basically were like female "angels" that worked for Odin and came down and picked up the fallen Germanic warriors that Odin selected because of their valor and also sometimes heritage on top of their valor to fight for the Gods at Ragnarok.

And the Einherjar fight battles everyday with each other and when they are not fight battles the Valkyries bring them beer/mead.

Your thinking of the "legendary/mythical" shield maidens. And I have read many sagas, and have only came across one or two that a "shieldmaiden" is in (I can only think of I think brunhilde or something off the top of my head) other than in the Iceland sagas when they are going through a characters ancestry in those sagas (which they do all the time and it can be quite long LOL) they might say "so and so" was descended from "this" shieldmaiden.

Yes I apologize. I went back and corrected myself haha. I wasn't so much thinking about the sagas as much as recent studies finding bones of nordic women with battle injuries buried with weapons in the Britannic Isles.

All good. Yeah I heard about that story, or I guess the misconstrued headlines from the actual study. HAHA

The study was actually on Scandinavian (term Nordic includes Finland and the bones are of Germanic Scandinavians) not Nordic female MIGRANTS. Here is a link http://content.usatoday.com/communities/sciencefair/post/2011/07/invasion-of-the-viking-women-unearthed/1?csp=34tech&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed: usatoday-TechTopStories (Tech - Top Stories)&siteID=je6NUbpObpQ-K0N7ZWh0LJjcLzI4zsnGxg#.VVvDsvlVhBd

And here are some quotes from the study.
"These results, six female Norse migrants and seven male, should caution against assuming that the great majority of Norse migrants were male, despite the other forms of evidence suggesting the contrary. This result of almost a fifty-fifty ratio of Norse female migrants to Norse males is particularly significant when some of the problems with osteological sexing of skeletons are taken into account," says the study.
Women may have accompanied male Vikings in those early invasions of England, in much greater numbers than scholars earlier supposed, McLeod concludes. Rather than the ravaging rovers of legend, the Vikings arrived as marriage-minded colonists. "Although the results presented here cannot be used to determine the number of female settlers, they do suggest that the ratio of females to males may have been somewhere between a third to roughly equal," the study concludes.
Don't think the study stated or proved anything about "shieldmaidens" or that Viking armies were filled with women. Being buried with a weapon does not mean you were a warrior or fought lots of battles/raided and were in the shield wall with men. Being a "colonist" like that would be a tough life though and I am sure "everyone" had to learn to defend themselves. Maybe that explains being buried with your weapon. Just like living on the "frontier" in the wild west.

I am not saying some woman (maybe 1/100 , who knows) in the world couldn't fight like that and be just as "good" as a man because I know there are some pretty strong or "built tough/large framed" woman out there now. So I definitely believe it in the past, and I do believe in the legend of shieldmaidens, but I would think that would be quite rare and not what some of the media is trying to portray about a study that was about FEMALE MIGRANTS, not female warriors.

Hope I helped, I am getting off topic though. LOL

I can't wait for this next expansion, seems like a eternity since last CK2 expansion. Can't wait to start playing again, been playing a ton of EU4 lately instead.

Wow dude, I hope you feel proud of yourself
Now Groogy is going to feel really awkward releasing the next DLC

Could you take this one step further and make it so that if you hold a kingdom or empire title, the wrong holding penalty doesn't apply to your capital county? The Roman Emperor should be allowed to rule from Constantinople. The King of France should be allowed to rule from Paris. Let Rome be a city instead of a temple. It should be possible to rule from a castle instead of a city like the kings of England but a well developed city should be the ideal center of power.

Actually... We have so many sources for Christian women leading armies in this era... Why do people still want this feature only for Vikings because of shieldmaids? Actually I would love this feature for all religions. landed women should be able to lead armies. And the consorts at least in Christian too (I'm not sure about other religions in this case)
