Drat.
I wasn't completely caught by surprise here though ;-)
At least I had fun while it lasted :p

Many thanks for hosting this, Artell. Especially for indulging my undoubtedly GM annoying play style ;-)

And thanks to my fellow players for allowing me in and putting up with me for the duration :)

Also learned a bit about that to take note of when/if I GM a BSG game here.

This game is pretty hard for the humans to win, isn't it?
This is the second time I've seen Cavil in a game and the second time that Cavil completely pwns the humans in a single turn. That once per game ability is insanity ..

I'll put up a thread for a new game within 24 hours. I'll probably disallow Cavil as a play option - or nerf his once per game a bit.

(Not just because of how we lost here, mind. A friend of mine who I trust on judging game balance commented on how overpowered that character is in an earlier RL game (before the game started). I'd like to see how Cylon Leaders play out when he isn't in there.)

Take note of what, exactly?

Thanks for the game everyone. Morale is the new fuel, you can't lose almost any of it before New Caprica. That hattrick of crises was pretty bad... Well-timed move by jacob, though. I agree with randakar that Cavil's OPG is maybe a bit too powerful. It can be used for good too, though: I remember a game where we had a friendly Cavil and he removed both basestars when Galactica jumped in. :D

Thanks to Artell for GMing again, this took quite a long time, didn't it? And congratulations to the winners, we'll get you next time!

I knew I forgot something -
Agreed. Congratulations to sbr, jacob and snoopdogg/Kriszo.

Thanks everyone, it was a good game despite the slight issues we had. It didn't help that I was down with the flu for several days and then had to leave the country, but we managed it in the end.

And yeah, I noticed myself that New Cap cards eat up a lot of morale.

I am not going to play myself but if Randakar wants help with anything or the spreadsheet I made for vanilla, I'll be happy to.

As for the nukes and Basestars...

First roll is a six. The Basestar is destroyed.

Second roll is a one. The other Basestar is damaged twice. Drawing damage tokens... disabled weapons. It may no longer attack Galactica; disabled hangar, it may no longer launch raiders.

I was thinking more along the lines of getting Galactica and Pegasus and all the civvies in a close group, then blowing both our nukes so no cylon may ever get hold of our bodies, but oh well.

Its been a nice, if sometimes clunky game. Good work, Artell!

I would say cavil is not so much overpowered as his ability can be critical if all the stars align. Had the first crisis I had drawn executed me at the end of it there would have been just 1 of the 3 crisis as it requires my movement phase to do the 3 actions deal. Also his hand discard negative is pretty big since he has no clue when someone will out themselves or be outed and thus has to either save no cards for a key check or just kinda hope. I think I lost a 5 val and a 3 val sabotage card when I had to dump my hand. I would rather just see another leader as opposed nerf cavil so we have a bigger sample size.

My special victory condition required the colonials travel a certain distance...man that was nail biting when my earlier super crisis briefly did better than I hoped.

Cylons can normally ignore the negative stuff coming out of crisises, though. So you couldn't have been executed.

The thing is, you always will have a use for this once per game. And there is no once per game that can counter it on the human side.

And it's not just me - I've seen comments on the SA forums too that people choose Cavil almost every time.

The negative is fine. I've seen characters with worse drawbacks (eg. Roslin) but also with laughable ones. It's a bit situational but having a drawback be situational is not a bad thing in my book.

That I can agree with.

*lol* That would have been ironic, wouldn't it? Having your own super crisis blow up your victory conditions ..

The occupation forces and the DD actually ended up being key. Had it worked slightly differently at best the colonials drop to 2 morale and get to take a lot of action before the cylons do again. Had the crisis cards been other types or worse still, just Galactica/Pegasus damage problems my 3 crisis bomb would have been useless. I don't think the colonials gained morale at all or at best 1 anyways did they?

The very next crisis, actually, reads on the skill check fail result: "The current player is executed."

Can't cylons just ignore that, though?

I don't think the New Caprica crisis deck gives any damage tokens on pegasus or galactica. Nor does it have cylon attack cards, I think.
In hindsight I really should have nuked the crisis that had an OF activation *and* placed another OF on the board - but then I really was hoping we could pass that one somehow..
I think that the crisis we barely failed on Cain's turn is what really set up your turn perfectly.

Also one thing that fux0red us was that we were facing two consecutive Cylon turns right when Galactica returned. Hardly the ideal timing...
The game didn't even get to my turn

@ randy

It's more of the little details I was referring about. ;)

@ game

I didn't have good Quorum cards to combat the morale loss; so I couldn't pull it up at all.
