House Vyrwel of Darkdell
a Westeros Mod AAR

Well here I am again with much free time in the coming weeks. And as I just discovered this awesome A Song of Ice and Fire mod for CK DV : Westeros Mod I knew what I had to do! Conquer the Iron Throne

The mod has some database bugs (like the father being younger than his son in some instances) but nothing major. The mod is stable there are no CTD's and there even are mod specific events

I played around a lil and after a while I knew I would make an AAR
For those who read the incredible books, the mod takes place at the eve of Robert's War with the Targaryen King.

I choose House Vyrwel due to a few reasons, one they are not a vassal of House Tyrell like in the books and have many possibilities to grow. Also due to their awesome name and crest. The world already knows the wolfs, lions and dragons now they will learn about the wyvern's.

Chapter One
Westeros and House Vyrwel of Darkdell​

House Vyrwel isn't a big house in the books and there is little we know about it besides it's crest. In the books the brother of my main character, Ser Igon Vyrwel is a captain of the guards at Highgarden.

For those unfamiliar with the books the continent of Westeros starts with One Big Kingdom of the Andals, Rhoynar and First Men. The rulers of the kingdom reside in King's Landing on the Iron Throne. The continent has been conquered by a foreign prince hundreds of years ago and his Dynasty is till on the throne. The current king is Aerys II Targaryen the Mad. But Robert Baratheon started a rebellion together with his two friends, Eddard Stark and Jon Arrayn so that might change soon.

To give you a better idea, here are some pics from the ingame map.

The Wall and Behind-the-Wall.

The purple is the Wall, A big ass wall build to stop the barbarians of the north (and more ). The Wall is guarded by the Night's Watch. The Watch started off with high prestige and attracted knights from all over the realm. Now only criminals and the unwanted go (or are send) there.

The north of the realm.

This big ass Silverish Realm is the Over-lordship of the North. Ruled by Eddard Stark.
Ingame he is a King, like all Overlordships. But more on that later. The red realm is Dreadfort.

So far pretty easy, but here it gets kinda confusing.
On the far right, the Dark Blue is the Overlordship of the East. Ruled by Jon Arryn.
The light purple realm to the south-west of Jon Arryn is the Overlordship of the Riverlands. It's ruled by Holster Tully. His daughters are married to the Overlords of the North and East.
The Red realm in the west is yes you guessed it right, The Overlordship of the West. Ruled by the cunning Tywin Lannister. The Islands above the Tywin are the Iron Isles, ruled by Balon Greyjoy the Overlord of the Salt and Rock.
The Dark Red in the East (Blood red) is the Realm of Aerys II the King.

The South

The Green realm is the Overlordship of the South. Ruled by Mace Tyrell.
The Yellow lands are the lands of our rebel, Robert Baratheon. The Overlordship of the Storm Lands. In deep South the sandish (and there is alot of sand there!) realm is the Principality of Dorne. Ruled by Doran Martell. Ally of the Targaryen Kings.

Now you might ask where is House Vyrwel.
Darkdall is the silver realm located between the Overlordships of South and Dorne.

Like I said earlier, all Overlordships are Kings ingame. But there is also a real King title they can all claim for most parts of the world. Once that happens I shall switch their titles. And maybe even delete the Overlord title.

Chapter Two
Leyton Vyrwel the Lucky

Leyton Vyrwel, Ruler of Darkdell​

Years 1000-1005

Family

The first year brought three marriages to the House Vyrwel.
Leyton married Malora Hightower, daughter of Leyton Hightower Lord of Oldtown. The marriage got the House a little prestige and hopefully it will give some heirs too.
Ser Igon married a local girl Oleanya Flowers. And Leyton's little sister married the Darkdell Spymaster Whalen Orme.

Ser Igon Vyrwel​

The three women got pregnant in the following year. Malora gave birth to Leyton's first son, Donnel. Igon had a daughter Ignes . But that was it for good news. Irya died in childbirth together with the child.
In Leyton's 3rd year of reign, his second son Lyonnel was born. Sadly the child died within a few weeks of it's birth.

Demesne

In 1102 Leyton started to expand his realm. Westeros was at war. Overlords fought each other and this gave him the opportunity he waited for.
Leyton claimed Fawn Crag and attacked it soon after. The siege lasted until June 1104.

Events

The SpyMaster had some good evidence huh? Leyton didn't believe him and still thinks Donnal is his own son.

Shortly after Leyton doubled his demesne a assassin attacked him. Leyton was badly injured. And it took the better part of 1104 for him to get better. He even got ill for a few weeks but a miracle worker saved the lucky ruler.
Ser Igon had his first son, Herbert.

A year after Leyton got out of his sick bed he was again on horseback sieging.
He claimed Torreentpeak and attacked. Uplands came in to help their allies but they ware no match for Leyton's Knights. Trained by Ser Igon they ware no match for any knight in The Marches. Within a year both Torreentpeak and Uplands capitulated and ware conquered by Leyton.

The Rebellion

Jon Arryan joined his friends Eddard and Robert in their war against the crazy King.
Mace Tyrell the Overlord of the South declares war but only on Jon Arryan, the Overlord of East. The Rebellion lasted five years. And the result was a stalemate. Sort of. Robert revoked his claims on the Iron Throne, but he did get Aerys II to recognize him as a King of his own right, King of the Storm Lands.
That was not the only overlordship Aerys II lost. The Martels got their own Kingdom for their help in the Rebellion. No longer only a Principality, Doran is now callad Doran I Martel King of Dorne.

Tywin Lannister the Overlord of the West declared war on the Overlords of Salt & Rock and Riverlands.

Chapter Three
How Leyton became a Lord​

Years 1005-1013

The wars with Torreentpeak and Uplands had a devastating effect on Leyton's money. He owned 356 gold and with an income of 13 gold a month it would take a while to clear that debt.

Ser Igon was blessed with his second son in 1106, Godric.

A claim on a the ruler of Starpike was found. Starpike has no liege, but Leyton has no money for war yet. Hopefully he can hang on to the claim for a few years.

In the following year Donnal was old enough to become a squire and he was sent to the court of the Overlord of South to the House Tyrell for training. (Hopefully no training in praying with Loras )

The same year Leyton had an adventure.

The girl was pretty and proved to be entertaining for Leyton. For a while. Leyton sneaked around to travel to Dorne to see his young love.

Bastard named Lancel was born in the winter of 1107.
Year later Leyton and Jynessa ended their romance.

Jon Arrayn's Rebellion

In 1008 Jon Arrayn started his own rebellion against the mad King. He claimed the Iron throne and marched on King's Landing. Robert I King of Storm Lands joined his friends war a year later. Eddard didn't join the 2nd rebellion.
Tywin made peace with the Overlord of Riverlands. Meanwhile Dorne celebrated their second King. Doran I was succeeded by his first born son Quentyn I Martel.

In the year 1009 the debt was payed off and Leyton even had a big enough sum to start his war. He attacked Starpike. Their allies Sunflower Hall joined the war. Sunflower Hall borders Leyton's demesne so he quickly claimed their lands aswell.
In December Starpike was conquered and Leyton marched on to Sunflower Hall.
On his way south he learns his wife gave birth to a daughter, Mariya.

Within a year Sunflower Hall was conquered and Leyton has now the power over six provinces. While Leyton had his feuds in the marches, King Robert I conquered King's Landing and signed a peace with Aerys II. Aerys II accepted to leave his capital and to transfer north. King Robert I meanwhile transfered his court to the newly acquired King's Landing. How long will it take before Robert I finishes his job? Probably never as a few weeks later he gets seriously injured.
Jon Arryn still continues his rebellion.

In the West Tywin Lannister losses battle after battle and finally has to leave Castelry Rock to the Ironborn. He lost his title a few days later.
The new Overlord of the West is his nephew Lancel Lannister.

Speaking about Lancel, our bastard boy is old enough to become a squire.
But on his 5th birthday he didnt get a practice sword but a one-way ticket to the Wall. Congrats. (There was an event where I could choose if I wanted to send him to teh wall but I didnt make a screenshot)

The New Black Brother​

In 1013 Lord Freemantle decides to leave as an Bannarman to House Tyrell. A big mistake. Leyton claims his lands. And within a year kicks him out.
The new lands made it possible for Leyton to finally call himself a Lord.

Chapter Four
The remaining years of Lord Leyton​

Years 1013-1020

Aftr his promotion to a Lord status, Leyton decided to host a great tournament in Darkdell. In was great and many Houses came to witness House Vyrwel's glory.
Our Castellan, brother of Leyton, Ser Igon Vyrwel won the tournament.

The Rebellion

Eddard Stark Overlord of the North and Balon Greyjoy Overlord of Salt & Rock join the Rebellion against the Mad King. In 1015 sadness overwhelms most of Westeros. Rhaegar Targaryen is slain by his own father (who gets Kinslayer trait). He was a beloved knight.

In all the confusion thanks to the death of Rhaegar, The North declares war with the East. Meanwhile Balon makes peace with Aerys II, clearly terrified by the mad King. He killed his first born in cold blood. Who wouldn't fear such a man.

Eddard Start is tired of all the wars and in 1018 makes peace with both the East and Aerys II. He gets 480 gold out of it too.

Back home Leyton claims The Arbor island that rebelled from under South's wing.
And his son Donnal marries a Valyrian maiden. Eleana Emonn. The Draconian blood gives more prestige to the House Vyrwel.

Three years after the murder of his father, Rhaegars' son Aegon rebels from his grandfather and claims the throne. (Another rebellion!)

But Leyton didn't see the end of this rebellion. He died of old age.
In twenty years he extended the power of his House and made other Houses recognize Vyrwels as Lords. Let's see if his first born son Donnel can do better.

Chapter Five
The End of the Rebellion?​

Years 1020-1025

Lord Donnel Vyrwel

His Valyrian Wife Eleana​

Shortly before his father Leyton died, Donnel and Eleana had a son. Osbert.
After his father's death Donnel continued the tradition to have a short yet effective romance with a young maiden from a bordering nation. A bastard named Podrick was born.

The year 1021 was an eventful year. Two Kings died and an Overlord was replaced. The Tully family lost the Overlordship of Riverlands to Garin Peasebury.

King Aerys II died of old age and was succeeded by his rebelling grandson Aegon, who was crowned Aegon VI Targaryen by the High Septon. In the Storm Lands King Robert I died due to his many injuries and overused liver. He was succeeded by his second born son Rogert. Now known as Rogert I Baratheon, King of Storm Lands.

The first few years of Donnel's reign ware quite uneventful for him. He still had a bad reputation due to his father's rapid expansion. But time heals all wounds. Or so they say. Meanwhile the Big Houses had another change of power. Quentyn I died due to injuries suffered from the war with Storm Lands. They say it was Rogert's sword that made the deadly injury. He was succeeded by his first born, 12 year old Clement I Martell.

The End of the Rebellion?

The Rule of Aegon VI came to an quick end in the summer of 1025. Eddison Arryn, the son of Jon Arryn who started the second rebellion has taken the Westeros throne! He crowned himself Eddison I Arryn King of the Andals, Rhoynar and First Men. Unlucky for him the High Septon (the Pope of Westeros) wasn't too happy about the usurpation and condemned the man. Now all Lords are free to claim the throne and convince the Seven Gods that they are destined to rule over Westeros.

yes he does near King's Landing...actroucly inside but its there . Next to the Kingsguard

you even get events if you want to send your son to the King's Guard but I didnt see it happen yet so i'll lower the MTTH.

Chapter Six
How Donnal added three new Lord titles​

Years 1025-1040


Due to the growing demesne Donnel had to make a few vassals.
- Nephew Herbert, son of Igon became Ruler of Freemantle.
- Lancel teh bastard became Ruler of Uplands
- Robert Kidwell husband of Donnel's sister Mariya was made Ruler of Torrentpeak

In 1026 Donnel finally took his fathers claims on Arbor and declared war. Within a few weeks the isle was his and he had his second Lord title. And it wouldn't he his last addition either.

Thanks to the confusion after the High Septon called Eddison I a schmuck in public many Lords claimed the Iron Throne, not for now but so they could use it in the future. Donnel was one of those Lords.

The next few years ware years of stability and peace. Two Medium Castles ware build. In Darkdell and Starpike. Donnel had three sons in those years, Alesander, Dondinel and Guyard.

The year of 1029 was bad for Lancels, both died. Bastard brother of Donnel was childless so his title went back to Donnel. Allister Wainwright became Ruler of Uplands, he is the husband of Igned Vyrwel.
The Overlordship of the West went to Lancle's 1st born, Raymun Lannister.

In 1030 Goldengrove rebelled from under The Overlordship of South and Donnel saw an opportunity. Goldengrove is an rich city and could be a great expansion for House Vyrwel.

On September 24th the battle of Ivy Hill took place where Donnel defeated Gyles.
Shortly later Goldengrove and 3rd Lord title was Donnels.

A year later it was revealed that Guyard really is a bastard and the Valyrian wife was unfaithful.

1034 did bring better news. Jonothor Redding becomes our Bannerman

The year 1035 has brought Westeros a new Overlord. The Greyjoys lost Salt & Rock to Lord of Old Wyk, Denys Drumm. MEanwhile the south gets a new Tyrell Overlord,
Anselm.

Also the year 1035 was pretty eventful for Donnel. He conquered Ivy Hall and added it to his personal demesne. Also his son Osbert married Oriel Valeryon. Valyrian sister of the Lord of Dragonstone. Within a year they had a son Joffrey.

In 1038 Donnel conquered his 4th Lord title, the Lord of Shield Isles.
Donnels how as 7 vassals and can command an army of over 20,000 men. Impressive but far from what he needs to become a King.

Marring Osbert to Oriel was probably not the best idea. The women is insane! Osbert becomes suicidal within a few years of their marriage and she actually kills two of her rivals. Donnels needs to keep her on his side.

Chapter Seven
Donnel's glorious death​

Years 1040-41


Donnel's last two years ware actually the same as others. War, war and yes you guessed it...new Kings.

Ashford was without a protector and it's quite a rich city so Donnel decided to add it to his personal demesne. Like always he took his army and defeated the other Ruler. But this time things went not as planned. Donnel, probably delusional due to his wins went into battle together with his soldiers.
And he died....

Lord Donnel was 39 years old. He was succeeded as Lord Vyrwel by his oldest son, Osbert.

Lord Osbert Vyrwel​

Osbert is quite a character. A great knight and a brilliant strategist. He's lustful and a drunk. An anxious drunk. Also he continues the Vyrwel tradition of baldness.

Will Osbert continue his father's legacy and extend House Vyrwel's power in Westeros? We'll see in the next two or three updates this week.

I almost forgot. We have a new king. The Iron Throne has a new occupier.
Eddison I the Usurper died due to his injuries and was succeeded by his firstborn son Petyr I Arryn. Pinky would be proud.
