The new Spartan Government (oligarchy), the five factions represent the control of the five ephors over the Spartan King. I havent had much time to test all of this. In my test game I was very successful as Agis IV in pushing through all of the reforms and had the ability to convert to the Spartan Monarchy eliminating the ephorate.

That's impressive, but the BYB looks even scarier now! :D

Just a question on the manpower: How quickly does it regenerate? With only ~20k reserves a war can almost drag on for ever as neither side can keep armies that are big enough to maintain armies/besiege provinces. Does the manpower reserves go up quickly in war time to make up for it?

Nice work. Really impressive.

Epicsauceawesome!

You've outdone yourself Hardradi, great job!

Thanks guys.

I have not tweeked any manpower modifiers but it seems to be ok. As Sparta I was able to recover my manpower quite quickly after being involved in a long war with half of the greek world.

I am 25 years into a game as Sparta which I started in 509AUC. At this start date the 1st Punic War is on, there is a civil war on in the Seleucid Empire who are also involved in the 3rd Syrian War against the Ptolemies. Both wars dragged on for a long time and the Seleucids also lost territory to Parthia. The Ptolomies were also embroiled in a more recent war against almost the entire greek world. They gained significant territories but lost a lot of manpower (see below).

Some stats at 534AUC are:

Rome - 70k in reserve and 59k in the field
Carthage - 30K in reserve and 40k in the field

Ptolemies - 3k in reserve and 53k in the field
Parthia - 53k in reserve and 43k in the field
Seleucids - 43k reserve and 32k in the field

Macedonia - 10k in reserve and 32k in the field
Sparta (me) - 40k in reserve and 18k in the field

Also 25 years of game time in two seperate sessions, I have had no crashes. :D

As we speak, I'm re-downloading E2:HK and making a duplicate install for EUR. :D

Okay, just from loading up the game real quick to see if I installed it correctly, I do like what I see. The Mauryan Empire is going to need a lot of work done on it for that end of the map to be balanced to any extent, or otherwise removed. Aside from the minor issue of the same guy ruling it for centuries, the main problem is that as it currently is now, only a small corner of what would be a vast empire is represented on the map currently. It be like stopping the map at Antioch and trying to accurately represent the Seleucids. Not only did the Mauryan Empire cover nearly the whole subcontinent at its height, but it ruled over huge populations. An accurately depicted Mauryans in EU:Rome would need to stretch the map all the way to bengal and down to Sri Lanka just to fit the whole thing on the map, and would likely be an unstoppable juggernaut if not suffering from internal dissent. Also, there should really be some un-colonized provinces north of the Parthians and such, as nomadic hordes frequently would swoop down from the steeps to plunder, or even conquer. Looks really cool though, time to actually start playing it!

Hope you enjoy it. :)

You might find the Mauryan Empire pretty resilient. i dont know why but I havent seen it run over by anyone yet. Future releases will have more of India which will strengthen it but probably not the whole sub continent unless I shrink the map scale. More characters will also be added for Mauryan rulers and Indo Greek rulers.

Likewise I hope to put in more provinces across the north, from the Crimea all the way to the east. Its a matter of priorities.

loving it so far! i like the decreased manpower, maybe i would reduce manpower and tax even more... just because with the total conquest mod it's rather fast to conquer huge swaths of lands and become rich...
I'm playing as Bactria and was able to conquer Parthia and Maurya in about 40 years, Maurya mainly thanks to the endless alliance chains that made them at war with everyone...

Bactria will surely become more challanging once the barbarian threat is added to the north and the Mauryan empire is made stronger

Thanks for the feedback.

I have some events which will trigger between between 597 to 598. They spawn some signficiant barbarian hordes and change the culture of some of the northern provinces.

Did you get hit by some mass barbarian invasions?

As of now i didn't have any barbarian horde... however the only enemy now left are the selucids allied with macedonia and the ptolemies so i don't see Bactria going far very fast now:p I can actually see Parthia being more successful because of the persian culture being predominant in the area compared to greek.

Will wait for the events then;)

Wow, just you against the three Successor kingdoms. If you could only beat them you could become more powerful than they could possibly imagine. ;)

Hopefully Parthia will shine like it did in history.

Maybe the Successor coalition will delcare war just before the barbarians invade. :)

thanks for the nice wishes!:p

I doubt they will attack, i have exchanged military access with them, also we usually end up on the same side of wars together with the whole of the greek world thanks to the cascading alliances... I will probably wait for a civil war in the seleucid empire to attack. No civil wars at all as of now 50 years in the game for anyone, very strange...

This is fantastic, do you think you'll push the start date back further? I'd love to see the day after the death of Alexander :D

That is strange. Any thoughts I why?

Yes, I plan to push the start date back further, to at least 319BC just after the death of Antipater. The reason for this date is that you can argue that the Successors Polyperchon, Cassander, Lysimachus Antigonus, Eumenes and Ptolemy were truely independent at this stage. Before that they were still under the heavy hand of the regency, except for Ptolemy.

A lot of the work is already done and in the files, thanks to the incorporation of Vanin's Diadochi Mod and additional work I have done. Unfortunately it still requires a lot more work and bug hunting.

Bit by bit and I will get there. :D

Great stuff, re: bug hunting, have you tried the Audax Clauswitz validator?

I found it incredibly useful for checking my syntax mistakes.

Anyone else see a guy in the PTI on the Arabian Peninsula? ;-)

Ohh and dont forget to check if you could use some of my characters i sent you the further you move back in time (i fear they they were 0 AUC until the end of the Alexander though, but perhaps you find some ancestors at least for your chars. ;-).
