I'm fairly anticipating this title, with proper reservations.
With that in mind, when can we expect the first Dev Diary? :D

Also I want to know the end date.

Although I was hoping for a game about the Dark Age or even ancient world, I think Paradox Interactive shows an open-mind with this game. Japan is not a region so covered by their games, and even DW seems to not going far enough in history. So, a game about that is not my first choice, but if the mechanic seems interesting to me, I'll probably buy it.

Someone said that before playing EU3, he didn't know very much about Renaissance Europe. I can say the same thing about Victorian era, which is really interesting since I tried Victoria (I and II). Maybe this game can open my mind about Japan, but after that, PI have to do at some point a game about Middle East (given the current events, that would have been awesome to remind us what wonderful things they did in the past), something about India, Ancient World, and why not Pre-colombian America?

Well, there is room in history to make many, many, many new games. Don't be bothered by the critics, Paradox, you are just fine. (but maybe you should do more betatesting before the release of some games. This is what you are doing with CK2, in fact, so thank you).

I'm sooooo glad Paradox is taking a step in this direction rather than cranking out another worldwide grand strategy game. I always hoped they'd scale down a bit to really flesh out one individual civilization for a game, it's just too hard to run anything resembling a realistic scenario on a worldwide scale, not so with a single country (Not that I didn't love most of the previous Paradox titles in spite of that!)

The possibilities for historical games are endless. There are sooooo many events rarely covered in games. The World War One, The Cold War, the Greco-Persian Wars, The Peloponnesian War, the Early Middle Ages, the American Civil War, The Mongol Invasions or even the Alexander the Great's conquests can make great games.

Still, it doesn't mean that feudal Japan is bad setting. It has great potential IMO.

This is very true. The games made on a more limited scope can be more detailed and engaging.

It's funny how there is a Sengoku appreciation thread allowed before the game is even released, yet there is a Sengoku criticism thread closed for the same reason.

This game will obviously be a freakin' Citizen Kane of Paradox portfolio...

How would you know what to criticize right now? They made a decision, it might be good or bad, we have to wait and see. But apart from being grumpy Paradox chose to develop something some people did not expect or think they'll like there is nothing yet to complain about.

Ohhhhh this looks amazing. Can't wait.

@vanin: it would be great for Diadokhoi. Or a couple of places in Chinese history.

Map is too limited. Needs to be extended to cover more of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Could be interesting, need some more time and information though before I actually get interested in it. Feudal Japan isn't exactly my favorite realm of history and I don't really know if a Japanese version of CK will be enough to hook me. Good to see Paradox spreading their wings a bit though.

I remember seeing an EU3 mod that wanted to do what Sengoku is trying now. Nothing ever came of it IIRC, but I did think then it would be great if Paradox picked up on the idea. Here's hoping for a great new IP for both you and us.

To be honest, I _am_ a little unsure about a Japan game but so far Paradox has often surprised me for the better with innovative concepts and great games. I will probably give this new idea a shot and follow the Dev Diaries to be sure. Give your best, guys! ;)

Hey, my first post in the history!!! (though I am watching development on the forum for longer time :p)

I think that criticism of the new game was not caused mainly by scope of the game. Personally I like the idea of specific game for specific area, time - based on Clausewitz engine. As it was said it brings an infinite of possibilities and the completely new games could have their own characteristics.

One issue for me is only that I am not as interested in japanese medieval history (maybe more in chinese) - sorry for those who like it. I was awaiting maybe something from ancient times :( Ehm, as I said I do not like medieval japanese history as much as ancient rome, greece or china. Maybe I will try it and see if japanese history can be fun.:p I will see.

PS: I am looking forward for my second post :D
