I will try to establish either the Mori or the Hojo. Unless I am wrong, the Hojo would start out as a "hostage", so I am not sure how that would play out in game.

That's accually not a bad idea. Now since Im not that familiar with history from this period, which character would be for the Mori then?

I was going to go with Nobunaga Oda (My first choice in any Sengoku-era game) but seeing as though he doesn't seem to be there I'll probably just go for the Shimazu or the Chosokabe and work my way up from there.

Because I'm a Tokugawa fanboy I had originally planned to play as Matsudaira right away. But seeing that they own only one Kuni in Mikawa, and that area seems to get overrun by Hosokawa enemies right away. I'm thinking of starting with something more stable. So probably Shimazu. First Kyushu and then the whole Empire!

Either Oda Toshihiro or Oda Toshisada, because they're the two landed nobles of the Oda Clan at this time, with Nakashima+Niwa and Haguri+Kasugai respectively. They're tiny, subservient and surrounded, but I wouldn't mind losing. :)
I was also thinking of starting with Oda, but from which did Oda Nobunaga decend from?

The Date clan because face it, the Date are the clan that SHOULD have won.

Also: I have never played or seen Sengoku Basara. I base this solely on the history of the Date clan in general and Date Masamune in particular. Which are AWESOME. Go study them! Do it!

Is the Tokugawa a branch of the Matsudaira clan?

Is the Tokugawa a branch of the Matsudaira clan?

Tokugawa Ieyasu was born Matsudaira Takechiyo and only later changed his name to Tokugawa.

Okay, maybe I should try a game as the Matsudaira

Yes, Tokugawa Ieyasu is a descendant of Matsudaira Nobumitsu (located in Kamo at the start). Before Ieyasu, there was no Tokugawa family name.
Well, supposedly Tokugawa clan was descended from a branch of Minamotos that had held Tokugawa name in the past, but which got renamed Matsudaira along the way. Afterwards Ieyasu retook the Tokugawa name. It's unsure if this was indeed the real origin of the clan, but least that's what Tokugawa claimed.

I'm tempted by the Yamara, they seem to always do well out of the Onin war. I can drive east for a bit then turn around and secure Kushu, and then push East once again. Should be relatively easy for a first game.

Mori Whoever rules in Aki as a vassal to Takeda. I believe he is the only landed Mori at the start.
Thanks man, I saw it... it's gonna be tough creating Mori.. considering everyone around me.
