Are any of these better?
dtM19.jpg

The second one is more "realistic". Anyway, it is not a big deal. The work you have put into the mod is more than worth any personal preferences texture wise. Anyway, thanks again!

Arko:You mean the church or the houses above? Or are you talking about the mediterranean houses?
The byzantine houses are placeholders, I just made them more red :p
Is there any difference in the castles/fortresses built by the byzantines and the ones built by the rest of europe? Is there anything unique to byzantine houses, too? their houses were made of bricks, no?

When I type "Byzantine architecture", "Byzantine churches", "Byzantine *everything*" there's always photos of the Hagia Sophia. Ok, It's wonderful, but it isn't the only thing the byzantines built. It's hard to find lots of references for other things, like common houses.

edit:.Spartan: I found the second one better too, but maybe it's because the houses nearby are red and thus they combine. also, the first one has almost the same color as the muslim castle. though I want them to be realistic, so I don't know what to use. If I find no references, I think I'll pick them according to personal preference!

Works for me. On a side note, you might want to copy sprite style from AoE or even Civ for reference if you are looking to revamp styles or add new ones with a historical feel.

Yeah, my inspiration to do this was Medieval Total War II. Now, I don't remember if it was like that in the original game, because I used a mod (Stainless Steel) :)
thogh there aren't many games that show the difference between Moors and Persians and Turks and Arabs, in architectural terms.

Is this mod compatible with patch 1.04? Or should be we wait until an update to download this fantastic mod?

Well, Steam patched the game automatically for me (Even though I unchecked the option) and it still works, so I guess it's safe :p

'
I'll put the Byzantine gfx on hold for now though. It needs more research and details, and I still want to make a release with Muslim cities. I'll make the Muslim cities first, and in another release make the byzantines.

And I just spent like 6 hours making a moorish castle texture only to have it reseting and now I have to do it all again.

-med roofs, in a lower manner, western & eastern roofs ; but I use a really small size for houses (scale 0.7). maybe other people don't have this concern. if so, nevermind.
-walls and roofs of med church and a bit on cathedrals (used with normal size ; scale 1.0) so some tweaking is still needed)

I figured as much being the old TW mod hand that I am. Anyway good work regardless of the inspiration.

Arko:Are you talking about the visual glitches?

I think it's related to the size(0.7 is the default size for houses btw). I'll make the textures of the B version more blurred, because that fixes it (I guess it's because there's so much detail and contrast in a tiny space). It is so small that it is not possible to see the little details anyway :p

edit: .Spartan: Yeah, Medieval was an excellent game with the mods. a shame that CA made modding difficult in their newest games. But oh well, thats off topic :p

yes, visual glitch. but it is not unbearable. this is already awesome. if it is not fix-able don't worry.

No problem, I'll fix it.
Though blurring is the only way I found to lessen the problem, and it doesn't completely remove it. :-/
hmmm...I'll try changing some options when saving, perhaps it's some problem with compression or something. It's kinda weird, because Western buildings didn't have that problem until I edited them. maybe it saved in another "format".

That is why I stopped modding for CA titles. They claimed to support modding (great for sales in the longtail) yet with each release they made it harder to do. Sad really...

for byzantine architecture style, check out the Mt. Athos monasteries. Or the old monasteries on the black sea coast. Those are very old styles, similar to 11th century stuff. You could also just make houses look like old style Turkish town buildings. I don't think the Turks changed secular civil architecture (in the cities) very much compared to Byzantine styles?

like that

or that

The "overhang" of the upper story, together with the usual mediterranean roofs, is (IMO) a pretty typical feature of old style Turkish houses...

Ohh many thanks! That's what I needed!

Byzantine houses used to be painted white(like in the fourth pic) or with exposed stones/bricks(like the others)?

I'm also planning to do a Turkgfx, and when I researched I found that style of architecture. But is that something they created, or something "absorbed" from byzantine culture? The turks used this kind of houses in the timeframe?
Only problem I see is that it's not possible to do the overhang so nicely.

Also, here's a preview of the Islamic cities:

I need some ideas to improve the default arab cities. they look so yellow-ish. I'm thinking to put some green domes and maybe some gardens, if I manage to do that. What do you think?

Very nice - good job. Color wise for the Arab cities, I can see bright or pale blue or even dark green easily. However I know almost nothing about Arabic building design in that age.

I'll continue bombing you all with screenshots of buildings you don't have yet >:)

Ohohoh I'm so evil.

EDIT: Hmmm, I'm thinking to change the persian castle model to this:

So that it can be different than the "default" muslim one.
any problems?
