If a new player were to join, would he receive a new party or would he have to somehow join another player's party?

You'd join an already existing party, IE, along with another player.

Will the election system be the same as in today's Germany, that is half of the Bundestag is elected in first-past-the-post system and the other half is divided between the parties on the basis of their percentage?

Yes, with a touch of the system in Norway, which ensures regional disparities do not cause overhang seats nationally.

Another question...do all the parties start with the same electoral base or there are ones more "favorites" and with an easier path to victory? I mean, those who have had more seats in former parlamentary elections according to the History you created...

And good luck to all!

Some parties will start with more seats, and, in better positions in the polls. This is balanced out by long-term growth potential, coalition possibilities, and trust or distrust of the various parties. All 5 parties have an equal "chance" to "win", but their routes to "victory" will be very different.

Sounds interesting, can I still join?
My preference would be for the fundamentalis, bible thumping, creationist Christian party.

The Conservatives may suit you best

Also, given the number of messages and potential new players - and my slightly busier than expected schedule - I'm pushing the official start of the game back to Tuesday or Wednesday.

I do, however, have the results of the 1998 election for all of you:

101 - K - Belinda Stronach (Chancellor) [Coalition]
99 - G - Marko Koch [Opposition]
63 - F - Konrad Sommer [Coalition]
62 - C - Theodor Berg [Coalition]
60 - A - Jens Lang [Opposition]

7 - R [Coalition]
7 - T [Coalition]
5 - P [Opposition]
4 - I [Opposition]
2 - W [Neutral]

(Yes, THAT Belinda Stronach.)

Current polls are as follows:

G-26%
K-25%
A-16%
C-15%
F-14%

Stronach's government is somewhat unpopular. Stronach is retiring, and thus the Conserevatives will need to chose a new Chancellor Candidate.

The other 4 party leaders have expressed interest in running again, but can be convinced to stand aside.

Note that they will not always be willing to stand aside. In some cases, you may end up fighting your own party on certain issues!!! (This is especially true if you attempt to take your party in a direction it is uncomfortable with. IE supporting gay marriage as the Conservatives. Or building new Nuclear Weapons as the Greens.

Oh, and I forgot:
The Factions were designed to assist parties with more than 1 player. Each player will pick a faction to play. I'll be limiting each party to 2 players until they are all full, then to 3. Once parties have a minimum of 3 players, they are wide open to new players, and parties with more players will generally find it easier to increase in the polls.

When you do have 3 players, your party will need to chose a player to be "team leader". The two players already in factions will have their votes count as 1.01 votes. That means that, in short, if you all try to vote for yourselves, the newest player will end up having to cast the tie-breaking vote on the second round. This is designed to encourage a few things:
Factional Warfare, as the new player would be more likely to side with whatever faction he or she chooses
Recruitment, as you want to be the guy to get your buddy into the 3rd slot before the other guy does
Rewarding early players, as the new guy wont be the winner, only kingmaker

Once we reach about 10 players per party, the minor parties will be open up.

Note to that all of this is subject to circumstance. I'm always willing to make exceptions if you can provide with a good reason for it, but, you gotta accept that I may not think your reason is 'good enough' and stick to the original rules from time to time.

Do we start tomorrow? Otherwise if you want more players maybe we could put something to spread the word on the OT forum.

We will start Wednesday, due to my personal schedule being busy.

I'd also like to ask everyone keep an eye on their Private Messages, to ensure there is space, as part of the game will take place via PMs.

I would like to join in the Labour Party. Can I? :3

I will give cookies to my party mates...

Nice! However, Im a little confuse about how often we must give orders (or how often turns update) and what kind of orders can be.

The first few turns will progress when everyone has put in orders, and the subsequent turns will progress on that schedule. Thus it all depends on how fast you guys are.

Also, I'll give out hints and suggestions for orders, but, everyone is encouraged to think outside the box, and, will be rewarded for such.

On joining parties: you can join any party you want so long as it is kept to a max of 2 players. Checking with the existing player, however, is a good way to ensure party unity.

The game itself begins in a bit under 24 hours (Wednesday Night) and note that I live in Toronto, but will try to give out any deadlines in EST, GMT, and, any other time zones that may be relevant based on where our players are from.

My current "deadline" for starting the game is 11pm in Toronto, or, 4am in London

By then all the elections between then and now will be finished (history) as well, you'll all have your 12 characters. You'll have background on the issues of the day, where your party has stood on those issues to this point, how strongly your party feels about their current stance, and a PM explaining any "secret info" your party has that it may not want to be made public.

You'll also get party logos! In general the colours will be made to match real-life German party colours, thus, as follows:

Conservative - Blue
Christian Democrat - Black
Liberals - Yellow
Labour - Red
Greens - Green

If, however, you can convince me that another colour would work better for your party, I am open to suggestions. In particular, I'm open to making the Christian Democrats a non-Black colour.

Brown, however, will not be allowed as it is associated with the banned Fatherland party.

Each party will get 6 characters to which you must place in 4 positions.

There are 5 different skills or traits that each character has, graded as A, B, C, D, and F.

For the jobs to be assigned, each requires one or more those skills. Part of the challenge is determining who gets what job based on the skills of those you have access to.

More details to come. (The forum ate a huge post I made earlier, so this is the abridged version)

Traits:
Fast - How fast the person can think. IE Thinking on the spot.
Deep - How "deep" the person can think. Good for strategy. Lack of this may make you miss details in plans.
Mdia - How well the person deals with the media. Good rankings mean you are "Telegenic"
Psnl - How well the person deals with other people. Low grades means they are "hard to deal with"
Clen - How "clean" they are, IE, how many skeletons do they have in the closet. Low grades mean dirt.

I have been looking at colours of political parties and I came to two options for Christian Democrats. First one is orange which the official colour of this party in today's Germany though it seems strange to me to have an orange christian party. The other, and IMO more suitable, option is white. It is associated with anti-communists (Russia) and christian parties in Italy. If it is okay I would therefore like the official colour of Christian Democrats changed to white (I envision a white flag with black letters).

I like white as the Christian colour too. Anti-communist, associated with purity in Christian thought... I like it

Our team:

Party President: Wilfried Braun

Finance chief: Franz Faust

Whip: Christian Schroder

White is actually worse to use in graphics than black is, as it would blend in to the background :p I can use black with my graphics, it just looks bad, but using white makes it invisible.

Would you be willing to compromise on Grey?

Also, I know I'm a little past when I said the game would start, but I've been very busy as of late. I'll continue getting information out ASAP while I allow you guys to assign your characters.

Also, here are your party logos, pending the final colour choices of course.

You can redesign your logo, yes, but within certain limits

1 - Has to be simple enough for a child to draw
2 - Has to be simple thing, or, simple things (IE Fist + Rose, Heart + Letters, etc)
3 - Has to be single colour, that being the colour of your party
4 - Ideally, it should be something that makes it clear what your party stands for just by looking at it, but this is not a requirement

You could use something like this if you wish. If you approve a new logo I will update the graphics.

Also, here is a grid of characters and their employment. The titles are, of course, all in German, but I hope they are clear enough.

Also note you can get bonuses for doing certain things. These will accumulate as 'Bonus Points'. Once the first deadline is set, which will be after you've assigned all your characters, parties meeting that deadline will earn their first point. These points can be exchanged for certain things. A few things are already up for "Sale". They are as follows:

1 point
Raising a skill grade from a D to a C
Raising a skill grade from a C to a B

2 points
Raising a skill grade from a B to an A
Raising a skill grade from a F to a D
Lowering an opponent's skill grade from a C to a D*
Lowering an opponent's skill grade from a B to a C*

4 points
Lowering an opponent's skill grade from an A to a B*
Lowering an opponent's skill grade from a D to a F*

*=These actions will make your party and the target party dislike one another more. Parties that dislike each other too much will refuse to sit in coalition, even if you order them to.

At this time you may store and stock bonus points in an unlimited manner.

I just want you guys to be aware of the large degree of freedom that I'm trying to allow :p

My team:

Party leader: Fritz Bauer

Party President: Dora Schuhmacher

Finance chief: Simon Vogel

Whip: Heinrich Luther

And, some small language corrections: It should be Kanzlerkandidat, not Kanzlerkandidaten, i think Reichstagsvorsitzender would be better than Reichstagsvorsitzende(because Reichstagvorsitzende is the female version), and at last, Finanzkandidat sounds weird, but i don´t know which german word would fit best.

So noted, I will do the corrections when I update the list later today.

If you have any other suggestions about the German in the game, please feel free to share, as, I do not speak German myself, and rely on translators and the German-langage Wikipedia.

Those who get their job list in by Friday at 6pm/5:59pm Toronto time (11:59pm in Germany) will earn 1 bonus point!

Also, please let me know what part of the world you guys are from so I can share the time zone deadline with you all in a format that is easiest for everyone to understand.
