Only three months remain before our research is complete on the next engine tech. A few more months to prototype the new engines, and we can begin the last round of refits before turning on the dreaded Invaders.

True. It's starting to run REALLY slowly on my old junk-heap computer, though. Each turn takes about ten to fifteen minutes.
 
Scientist Rendap von Ravenstrange has completed his theoretical study of Magnetic Confinement Fusion Drive technology, has prototyped three engines for missiles (a 0.5 MSP engine for our size-1 AMMs, a 0.8 MSP engine for the size-2 ASMs carried by our A/S Fighters, and a 1.5 MSP engine for our standard size-4 ASMs) and he is now prototyping a new set of engines for our Battle Fleet and (later) for our commercial ships.

The new missiles are potent indeed... with the AMMs reaching speeds of 75,000 kps to a range of over 10 m-km, and with a to-Hit chance of 285% against a 10,000 kps target; and the size-4 ASMs packing a strength-9 warhead, reaching speeds of 52,500 kps to a range of over 100 m-km, and with a to-hit chance well in excess of 100% against a 10,000 kps target.

A speed of 8333 kps, hangar space for twenty-five Strike Fighters and two (sensor-equipped) Strike Leaders, ammunition stowage for four additional strikes plus change, and enough Flight Crew berths for all of the pilots (25 x 5 [Strike Fighters] + 2 x 3 [Strike Leaders] = 131 berths).

It still has only two layers of armor... but then, its air-group has a strike radius (out and back) of a billion km, and a Light Carrier isn't intended to close in and slug it out toe-to-toe with the enemy battle-line.
