Once I had a Jihad for England against me and they won by occupying like 2 counties in de jure Kingdom of Mesopotamia which were held by the King of England, but they failed every landing attempt. Totally furious about that.

It's the combination of first name, dynasty name, the prince of England title and culture that does it for me. Note that England's provinces are about 50/50 Anglo-Saxon and Norse, his father is Norse (and I have no idea why he would choose a French guardian), and I, the top liege, am of course a Lithuanian.

What are we looking at? A nomad taking over an empire? That's not strange, strange is when they don't.
You guys are a little early for these sort of shenanigans.
In every HL game i've played so far Either the Byzzies or the Caliph gets knocked over at one point or another by nomads. Not really weird.

IRL the Byzantines and the Caliph were knocked out by nomads too, so... especially not weird.
I've actually never seen the nomad AI get that ambitious, though. I usually see them subjugate Bulgaria or Armenia and then become feudal.

And then get invaded by their blood brother clan five years later, and then they settle down, and then the great cycle of steppe life repeats itself, ad nauseam.
