EU4 - Development Diary - 29th November 2016

Hi everyone and welcome to another development diary for Europa Universalis IV. We’re now in the phase where we have just released the big post-expansion patch and there is not really all that much new stuff to show as development is starting on the next expansion.

These development diaries tend to be not so popular, as we don’t reveal much as it simply isn’t finished. So what can we say in this development diary? Well, some vague hints, and some indication of the future?

We have taken a lot into account that large major improvements and thematically connected features are what you prefer. Currently we have four more major expansions more or less fleshed out, with themes that you have requested a lot and that I feel you will love. The next one will have a focus on X and Y.

One thing that you have noticed with first Mare Nostrum and then with Rights of Man, is the concept of States In 1.19 we even added thicker borders between states. The reason for this emphasis on States is that it will give us the possibility for more mechanics in the game, while reducing micromanagement somewhat, and still have allow for fun maneuvering during wars. In the next expansion, we’ll be doing further enhancements to our states.

One cool little thing we’re doing with 1.20 for those of you that like to mod the game. We’re adding support for modders to add modifiers to cultures and culture-groups, both for province and country scope. This is for those that want a super-historically-correct mod where Swedes naturally have a +50% bonus to awesome_game_development.

Stay tuned, next week we’ll start showing off one of the first features in 1.20 update.

I hope so too. When I play with my brothers we have out of sync errors every 20 to 30 minutes :(
Odd. All the games I play with are incredibly stable. Maybe one desync every few games, let alone sessions. Perhaps it's your network?

just dont let "states" develop into stellaris' "sectors", because the AI is so bad at self-management in these games sometimes, that stellaris' "sectors" basically put an effective power cap on an empire at whatever its core-sector size is

already have pretty bad trouble with more militant games in EU4 where i start well over-extending state-limit, and in converted games i usually have to start out well over the state limit

Oh my gosh! Arumba just posted on the forum!

Someone earlier said that X is Ch in Greek
X is China and Y is Japan
J's are pronounced as Y's in Swedish (or am I a wrong American?)

It would be nice to see a whole dynastic tree for RM's, Succession, heirs, PU's etc. Someone said that X Y would be chromosomes.

I personally would like to see general and admiral ages so I know when I'll probably need to replace them. Yes, I know that should be a separate thread, but you can tell by the lack of quotes that I'm lazy right now.

Hi Johan,

Is there a chance that we'll get to a point where Windows-Linux cross-OS multiplayer works without instant OOS/crash?

Thanks

X and Y clearly being females and males.... making female heirs, and therefore spontaneous PUs more likely?

Anyway, I hope you get rid of this predefined states nonsense and let US choose the borders for our states, not unlike you do for Client states, or Sectors in Stellaris. And reduce the unneeded necessity to double-core new territory.

Hmm, so with these new culture-specific modifiers, would it be possible to make certain cultures take, say, reduced colonization penalties from various climates? I've always felt it strange that cultures who have been living in tropical jungles for hundreds of years and presumably know how to survive and thrive there get the same -10 global settler increase in Tropical provinces as Europeans just stepping off the boat from Scotland who've never been in the tropics before. It could also allow Russian cultures a boost in Arctic provinces to allow faster Siberian colonization (which is the one part of the colonization game I feel is too slow at the moment).

So what about updating Polish dynamic province names? Still waiting for a response to that matter.

Hmn I don't know about you but I just played Cross-OS three days ago using Win 10 and the newest (?) Ubuntu version without any crash in the three hours I tried explaining the game.
