Germany looks very solid now and France is in deep trouble. I'll have to delay reading the SU updates till the weekend but this looks like a real German beast to take on.

Well count, the only thing I have going for me is because some of these battles in the North and South have been so brutal and in favorable defensive terrain (cities and woods) - and I've managed to reestablish depth only JUST in time 3-4 times, the Germans *have* to be just as exhausted as I am. Unless there are more Germans waiting for me back there as reserves - then things will get ugly fast. The other bright side is I still have quite a lot of MP - the Germans pry still have more than 500-600 MP, but we should be bleeding them pretty badly. If I survive to the winter I will check in on Germany and see how they're doing for supplies/MP - if it's really bad I may cheat and give them a little help. I don't know if the AI is scripted to build certain kinds of MP heavy divisions in 1941 etc and since I left it with a massive army that would be a disaster lol.

lol guillec so far the only mistake the AI made... This is really interesting behavior by the way. Germany declared war on me with a rather small number of troops on my border. I don't know why the AI chose to do that, but you can see in the updates, the first 15+ days or so we were having a pretty good time of the war because there just weren't that many Germans around... and then unholy amounts of tanks showed up from out of nowhere lol. Maybe it's the way I had my troops distributed, it didn't think it would need more?

Yeah Sebas keeping their NU so low.... they barely put up any fight at all. I did that purposefully so that the Germany AI wouldn't do one of its favorite things (bleed MP assaulting the Maginot line). AI Germany's 3 major flaws IMO are: A. Bleeding massive amounts of MP on the Maginot, B. Norway suicide parades, and C. Units out of supply in Yugoslavia, declare war on USSR anyways. I fixed A. and B. in this game at least :( lol.

On the subject of the AI I've learned a few things.

1. If you construct an OOB for the AI it *will* reset to whatever it's coded to do as far as theaters, but the actual OOB stays in tact - I'm seeing corps and armies that I made myself. The generals I placed on divisions, corps, armies, and army groups, are still where I put them - even the division names I gave them (when I combined my ART+AT I selected those first so the division is named 1st artillery or something like that so I know which divisions I made lol). Now, the AI doesn't really care about keeping things in communication range, but when it does, having a human made OOB really gives it an edge it normally would not have even on VH. This does not apply to the navy however, it broke up my fleets and did wacky things with them immediately so the Naval AI is just hopeless sadly.

2. The AI can't handle brigade attachments at all. I had a few brigade attachments left in the queue and figured the AI would figure out what to do with them. No, it did not. My submarines have found one of my SPART brigades guarding a port as if it were a GAR division lol. So AI Germany has 5 SPART brigades lazying about somewhere.

That behavior can explain a lot of things - why Poland always does so poorly for example (because it can't attach brigades to its huge amount of starting divisions, and can't build many new divisions with attachments due to low MP). It also explains why the USSR typically always does so poorly when Germany doesn't kill itself on purpose - or why it does so poorly against a human Germany at least. The USSR starts with 16 LARM divisions with no attachments, and they'll stay that way forever. It also starts with something like 90 some infantry divisions that will also stay 3x forever. Hence why German armor is so effective. I always knew the AI couldn't tell *what* it was building as far as attachments or upgrade units (hence my huge amount of INF that have AC + AA attached to them lol), but I didn't know that it couldn't handle attaching brigades at all.

The German AI also is assigning a lot of my divisions (I can recognize my divisions either by their names or composition) to its allies - Slovakia for example has a HUGE amount of units which it should not be responsible for.

The Soviet build queue there speaks for itself. Had i left it alone completely the Germans would probably already been near Leningrad lol.

August 1941

Challenges in General:

As we fall back into the arms of Mother Russia, we are hemorrhaging leadership and R&D facilities. Our ability to train officers has been impacted, and our ability to research new techniques and equipment has likewise been impacted.

Almost our entire air force is completely exhausted so our ability to provide air cover or penalize German assaults has been severely limited. Due to very poor air base infrastructure we also are having difficulty repairing damage to planes - we can only service a few at a time instead of entire flights, so damage tends to be malignant.

The Paris Commune was severely damaged (22% STR left) in combat action against the Italian BB Ciao Duilio, several decks took on large amounts of water, and parts of the above deck have been completely blown off. Main turrets 2-3 are disabled. It could be months or even a year or more before she is able to provide fire support to the troops of the Odessa front.

Condition of the Fronts

Arkhangelsk Front:

- Very stable no movement in the entire month of July, STAVKA is considering withdrawing a small number of divisions to help bolster the Leningrad front's establishment of a defensive line on the Daugava river, but due to the vital importance of both Murmansk and especially Leningrad, STAVKA is very hesitant to jeopardize the relative calm.

Leningrad Front:

- Very unstable in the middle and Southern sections of the line. A full route was possible, but we believe me *may* have stabilized the situation somewhat.
- Strategic depth is beginning to form again, but the situation is still very tense.
- Attempting to form a hedgehog for the defense of Minsk

Kiev Front:

- The Northern section of the line is extremely chaotic, but strategic depth here is better than at Leningrad front
- The exit to the Pinsk marshes is very poorly defended and will not hold out long against concerted German attack, the northern portion of the front *must* withdraw before they break through or the Kiev front will disintegrate.

- Kiev should be safe for now.

Odessa Front:

- Front is extremely stable for right now, but as the Germans work their way down the Dniester line we will likely end up forming a bulge with Odessa front comprising the majority of said bulge.
- Strategic depth will be re-established here in preparation for retreat should it become necessary. Odessa front has time to prepare at least.

Trans-Caucus Front:

- Due to the situation on the Suez Canal, if the Italians cross the line we *may* deposit a very sorely needed armored division to the Trans-caucus. It is believed the Persians have very little anti-tank capability.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

01:00 August 1st, the only combat on the whole front, stretching from the Arctic to the Black Sea is at Molodeczno (Maladzyechna), which is less than 100 KM from Minsk. More divisions are arriving there within the next two days. General Voronov reports he should have little difficulty holding out.

04:00 the Germans, Italians, Hungarians, and Romanians attack the Dniester line at Illychvsk (south of Odessa) 5th Tank army again reports a sure victory, and at Kamaniets - the now, Northern most extreme of the Dniester line - we are expected to hold for now, but some troops are withdrawn to assure strategic depth.

04:00 Germans renew their offensive in Northern Kiev front - we are expected to hold divisions are reforming strategic depth in an orderly fashion.

by 7:00 2nd August Molodeczno will be relieved and strategic depth can be formed over Minsk and it's surrounding areas - we must hold out until then.

7:00 2nd August, Voronov reports the Germans now face overwhelming forces in Molodeczno.

15:00 2nd of August, General Kurasov reports that we have successfully defended the Northern most Dniester line in Kamaniets. 2034 Axis troops were killed.

4:00 4th of August our line at Pasavalis, now that Volsky's tanks have been removed is reported that their line is likely to break, but they will have Soviets to fall back to behind them, with trenches already prepared.

Despite our general's fears that they could not hold Pasavalis without Volsky's tanks, the Germans have called off the offensive, 67 Soviet soldiers gave their lives, but they killed 1324 Fascists.

21:00 4th of August, Vasilevsky's 2nd Tank Army is now organized enough to engage in counter attacks again in northern Kiev Front, we are engage to push back fast-moving German divisions in Netyshin, General Katukov commanding.

5SlijhR.png

10:00 on the 5th, the attack ends in success. We will not be taking the ground though, we cannot risk our armored forces become cut off due to pushing ahead while the rest of the line falls back.

We have decided to retreat from Molodeczno, the battle was becoming too costly and German armor has engaged us, and we have no armor in the area to counter-act it.

17:00 5th, Pasavalis comes under attack again, and again general Kashuba tells us he wont be able to hold, we'll see if the Germans think otherwise, again.

8:00 August 7th tanks under general Baranov will counter-attack Molodeczno just outside of Minsk to try to buy our infantry more time to dig in and reorganize. It appears only the be a single panzer division. Smuschkevich's TAC flight will assist.

It appears Lt. General Kashuba was correct, we have fallen back from Pasavalis, 935 Soviet soldiers were lost, 984 Germans were killed.

General Baranov's assault on Molodeczno has brought us a very interesting opportunity, it appears that the Germans have allowed general Dietrich's panzers to run too far ahead of their supporting infantry. Smuschkevich's TAC bombers have been instructed to bomb during the day, while Khudyakov's MRF's will bomb at night to maximize the amount of firepower leveled on Dietrich's panzers. If we can break the tanks before the infantry reinforce the panzers we will buy ourselves quite a lot of breathing space and hopefully re-stabilize Leningrad Front in the Southern section.

UP5eMxd.jpg

STAVKA will watch these developments very closely.

09:00, Baranov reports that Dietrich's panzers have been broken, but all of the infantry arrived only just in time to slow our offensive action. Now STAVKA must make the hard decision of either carrying on with the attack of calling it off.

9:00 on the 9th, we call off the attack to preserve our Strength, we've bought our infantry an extra day and thoroughly battered a German panzer division, this must, in the end, be enough. 727 troops in the counter-attack, but the Axis (Germans, Italians, Romanians, Hungarians, Croations, and Slovaks were all present) lost 1285.

1:00 on the 10th, Kashuba reports that 2 panzer divisions have chased him all the way through Pasavalis, and are now assaulting our reserve positions behind the province. Luckily, we had several days to dig in so it looks like they will not break through. Yakovlev's CAS flight is called in to assist.

1:00 August 11th, an infantry division is released from Riga to assist general Kashuba with his defense. Riga should be fairly safe for now with the big guns of the fleet at their backs and 10 days to fortify the city!

18:00 August 11th, Aizkraukle, the province behind Pasavalis, and directly adjacent to Riga, has been successfully defended by Kashuba's corp - all elements safely made it out of Pasavalis - had it not been for our reestablishment of strategic depth they would have been lost, instead these heroes fight on! 275 of Kashuba's men gave their lives, but we annihilated 792 German tankists.

16:00 August 12th, General Rybalko's tank division, and 3 escorting infantry divisions, are attacked at Bauska, the Southern Flank of Riga, by 2 panzer divisions, a motorized light-tank division, and 4 infantry divisions. Rybalko believes, that because the area has been fortified for 10 days, we can hold out. He claims that our soldiers have come up with many creative traps for the Germans and their friends! STAVKA hopes that Rybalko's company wine-maker's will send reports on his divisions consumption.

9:00 13th of August, the Germans have assaulted Wilejka, slightly North of Minsk - general Baranov's tanks report that they should be able to hold this position.

21:00 14th, Rybalko's "traps" were insufficient to hold of 2 panzers and 5 other divisions. He has been instructed to retreat to Riga - as it is relatively safe, some of Riga's defenders have been released to Aizkraukle.

00:00 15th, a new Tank brigade has been produced and assigned to the Kiev front.

9:00 August 15th, General Kariofilli leads a counter attack against a german light-armor division, and 2, we assume, Hungarian infantry divisions, to relieve Baranov's tank division and its defensive compliment.

v0WaPF6.jpg

There has been no action on the Kiev front for a week, perhaps the operation at Netyshin, and our resulting re-establishment of strategic depth has forced Hitler to come up with a new plan.

STAVKA has decided that should no more action come to the Kiev front by the end of the month we will attempt to reconcentrate our armored forces - as they are currently dispersed amongst the line infantry in several locales.

20:00 18th of August, the battle for Wilejka has ended with victory for general Baranov's tanks! 2,375 Soviet soldiers lost their lives in the battle, but 3,783 fascist lackeys lost theirs.

General Kariofilli has been given permission to continue the assault as he has thoroughly embarrassed general Blaskowitz -=countered tactic despite being lower level=- who obviously didn't expect such resistance.

7:00 19th of August, the Hungarians have retreated, along with their fascist masters, from Kryzwicze. Kariofilli will not pursue however. 1,010 Soviet soldiers lost their lives, but we killed 1675 Hungarian and German fascists.

16:00 on the 20th... The Germans have ceased to move forward on any front again, they are not actively engaged in offensive operations. Perhaps they too are exhausted and disorganized like we are.

We will take this respite to continue to reestablish strategic depth.

2:00 24th of August, Hungarians appeared in Kryzwicze again, we will throw them back once more. General Hadeev will have a chance to test his men.

by 15:00 the Hungarians have retreated, 46 Soviet troops were lost, but over 400 Hungarians were killed in our counter-attack.

00:00 August 26th, the Germans went back on the offensive after taking several days to rest, and let us reorganize.

They attacked in Uzda, South of Minsk. Zarasai and Rokiskis, both of those provinces are on the middle of the line.

The plan is to attempt to relieve Uzda but counter-attack, and for troops in Zarasai and Rokiskis to make an orderly retreat to better positions in the rear.

NKM62xn.jpg

5:00 , 26th, General Aseichev's troops initiated their counter attack on Molodeczno, there are 5 infantry divisions here, we are attacking with 5 of our own, but those divisions are also attempting to move forward so they are being outflanked. After a few day's rest Smuschkevich's TAC flight will provide assistance, though the thoroughly exhausted pilots still haven't recovered from their ordeal.

The Germans are responding in kind by viciously bombing Uzda. Our battered INT flight will have to interdict them!

00:00 27th, General Berzarain retreats from Rokiskis

16:00 27th, The Germans try to assault Illychivsk again (south of Odessa). They will be thrown back yet again by 5th tank army. A series of jokes have been circulating in the Red Army papers relating to various situations in which one asks how many Romanians it takes to cross a river.

18:00 27th, the Battle of Uzda ends in victory, we killed 1919 Axis soldiers and lost 659 of our own.

19:00 27th, General Bolotnikov's tanks in Zarasai report that they are under attack by 2 panzer divisions and no fewer than 9 infantry divisions - they will now withdraw.

00:00 28th, a new Tank division is mustered and sent to the Leningrad Front, it will be stationed to the South-East of Minsk to provide assistance to the city's flanks once it is ready for action.

15:00 28th, General Aseichev reports that the Axis bandits have vacated Molodeczno. We lost 955 men, while we smashed 1937 fascists.

8:00 29th, General Glazunov's tanks attack Zarasai to throw back any elements which may have gotten ahead of the tremendously large attack force.

21:00 we call off Glazunov's attack - the Germans were better organized than we expected, we lost 75 troops, but killed 150 of theirs.

Panzers attack us further down the line, but our troops have been dug in for 10 days and report that the battle is going well, despite having nothing more than light tanks to assist them.

3:00. 30th, an MRF wing is raised and given to general Thor's MRF flight based out of Talinn, Leningrad Front.

5:00 30th, the Germans are again thrown back from Illychvisk. 2,500 of them did not survive the attempt to cross the Dniester.

19:00 30th, General Volsky's tanks in Berzai come under attack by 7 divisions of infantry. Volsky reports that he's not sure he can hold out against such overwhelming numbers, but aerial reconnaissance indicates there is very little anti-tank artillery in the area.

10:00 30th, we win the battle of Gleboke, the panzers were thrown back by our well fortified troops!

13:00 31st, the Germans respond by attacking with a far more massive force. A strange tactic, but perhaps their panzer general was filled with hubris? 5 divisions and a panzer division, our troops are unlikely to be able to hold.

18:00 31st, it is decided to retreat from Gleboke, there is no sense fighting against such odds for long.

00:00 September 1st, we retreated from Berzai - the tanks couldn't hold the ground against so many divisions of infantry.

The Italians are still touching the Suez, but haven't crossed. They have however retaken Alexandria.

They also still hold Mombasa, but that is all that they hold outside of North Africa.

Naval Action Summary

We have sunk a total of 552,000 tons of Axis shipping.

The Paris Commune is about 61% repaired according to our shipyard technicians.

you are still doing better than RL Soviets

September 1941

Condition of the Fronts

Arkhangelsk Front:

- Still quite stable, STAVKA has thrown around the idea of an offensive in the South, but has thought better of it.

Leningrad Front:

- Air forces still totally exhausted
- Strategic depth mostly reestablished
- Retreat to the Daugava river in order.

Kiev Front:

- Very stable for the moment, strategic depth is good
- Air forces are operable, new air fields put to good use.

Odessa Front:

- Very stable, temporary loss of fleet guns unfortunate, but not catastrophic.

Trans-Caucus Front:

No movement yet.

3:00, September first, the Germans engage in multiple offensives.

- Zapadnaya Lista (on the road to Murmansk in Arkhangelsk front) a German Infantry division, and Finnish garrison division attack our two divisions here. General Tyrulen expects to hold - his troops have had months to dig in. Also his division was bolstered with an ART and AT brigade (2x INF, 2xINF + ART +AT in province).

- Aizkraukle, lateral flank of Riga, Lt. Kashuba's corps is in action again, this time against 2 light tank divisions, and 3 infantry divisions (1 is German 2 are Axis allied). He expects to be able to hold the forest, which he has had 10 days to prepare.

- Wilejka, VI Baranov's tanks, and their escorts are attacked by 3 Hungarian divisions - Baranov seems to believe this will not be a challenge.

- Kamianets - the Northern most area of the Dniester line is under attack by 4 German infantry divisions and a light tank division - General Kurasov reports that he cannot hold. This will require divisions in several areas to move back from their current positions, but our strategic depth makes this a simple operation.

15:00 Sept 2., Panzers enter Glebokie, General Hadeev counter-attacks!

18:00 General V.I. Baranov reports victory in Wilejka, 316 lost, 1444 killed.

19:00 we withdraw from Kamaniets as planned.

3:00 September 3rd, General Reiter's light tank, and a tank division counter attack a German and Slovakian infantry division that has entered Zarasai.

7:00, General Biryukov counter-attacks a light tank division that has entered Kamianets

10:00 General Hadeev calls off the counter-attack as too many Axis troops have entered the area for his force to fight, we lost 426, while they lost 791.

22:00 September 3rd, Lt. General Kashuba has to sound the retreat behind the river. We lost 2192, while they lost 2381.

7qh4Deq.jpg

7:00 4th of September, we counter attack a Bulgarian division entering Birzai general Ozerov's infantry lead the attack.

16:00 we win the battle for Zarasai, we lost 65 soldiers, while they lost 656.

19:00, Germans attack with a large force of 1 panzer and 5 infantry divisions out of Glebokie into Padsvillie, general Kurochin reports that his troops are having supply problems and won't be able to withstand the assault - so we engage a massive counter-attack lead by Glabuzov's tanks.

00:00 5th the Germans attack Livani (Leningrad front) - but the line is expected to hold.

2:00 Germans re-engage Uzda and Wilejka, but our troops are fighting very well, and the lines shouldn't retreat.

3:00 the Germans call off the attack on Uzda.

11:00 we chased a German light tank, and 2 Italian infantry divisions out of Kamaniets, but will not attempt to retake the position.

13:00 we call off the attack on Glebokie, because supplies have reached Padsvillie and they are now fighting very effectively.

3:00 6th, the Germans give up on Padsvillie.

5:00 a Hungarian division makes the mistake of trying to hold Zarasai, we assault it with two infantry divisions.

8:00, we attack Molodeczno as Hungarians try to take the position. General Sakhno commands 4 infantry divisions against a rabble-like Cav division and a Hungarian infantry division.

15:00 6th, the Axis attacks Riga with 3 armored divisions and 8 infantry divisions - Rybalko makes more amazing claims about his defensive preparations of the city and vows that the Germans won't be taking the city any time soon. Meanwhile, the Baltic fleet was beginning to get bored as they had not had the opportunity to blast Germans with their big guns in some time. Their chance is now well in hand.

19:00 6th, the Germans finally give up their assault on the road to Murmansk at Zapadnaya Lista. STAVKA collectively breathed a sigh of relief that they had assigned those artillery and anti-tank brigades there only days before the assault began. -=As soon as those Germans showed up I knew I was going to have to dump some badly needed support brigades on those divisions=-

We have also thrown the Germans back from Livani, they lost 1788 in the assault while we only lost 568.

21:00 we have thrown the Hungarians out of Molodeczno.

1:00 9th, the Germans assault Jakabpils, we have a superior force here, and would very much like to hold it as it threatens the flank of forces assaulting Riga. The 206 will be withdrawn however, should something go awry.

S5F7yxX.jpg

00:00 10th, after enduring 10 days of constant assault general Baranov must abandon his position in Wilejka.

3:00, 12th, we lose the battle for Jekabpils - but we killed nearly 4,000 Axis soldiers in the process. Ozerov's troops now retreat behind the Daugava.

14:00 12th, the Germans are bombing Riga with 3 separate flights of bombers, overwhelming our ability to cover the city, but it should not effect the outcome of the battle.

15:00 12th, the Germans give up their assault on Riga, we lost 2,652 soldiers defending the city, but liquidated 8325 Axis troops. This time, Rybalko was not jesting!

00:00 13th, a new tank division is raised and given to the Leningrad Front. It will help provide strategic depth for Padsvillie.

21:00 14th, Hungarians again try to enter Kamaniets, General Vatutin has been tasked with getting rid of them. This must be done to prevent further decay of the Dniester line.

1:00 15th, Germans again try to cross at Illichivsk. Field Marshal Chuikov is offended.

4:00, Livani comes under attack again, General Rodin's tanks report that they cannot hold and will be crossing the Daugava in a day or so.

43 troops die in the raid on Kamaniets, but we kill 603 Hungarians.

13:00 Romanians attempt to take Kamaniets, we give them the same treatment we gave their Hungarian friends!

13:00, 16th, the Romanians retreat, we lost 17 troops in the raid, they lost 106.

Rodin retreat from Livani at this hour.

8:00 17th, 2,600 more Axis troops die assaulting Illichivsk

0:00 18th, a new tank division is deployed South of Mink to guard the exit to the Pinsk marshes should the Axis rats try to sneak through there.

22:00 18th, Germans enter Kamaniets. Vatutin's troops will test them.

6:00 19th, Vatutin calls off the attack. German fascists are indeed quite a bit more formidable than Romanian or Hungarian ones.

19:00, the Germans try to cross the Daugava with a panzer division from Livani, our strategic depth will foil them completely.

4:00 21, the Germans attempt to bomb Rezekne to support their offensive, our battered, but heroic, falcons intercept them!

8Qpx4KZ.jpg

11:00 22nd, the Germans are thrown back from Rezekne, we lost 164, 1144 Germans were sent down river.

13:00 the Germans, stubborn as they are TRY AGAIN to take Rezekne, only this time with more divisions. They will not succeed.

9:00 23rd, the Germans give up, 750 more are sent down river.

00:00 25th, a new infantry division is raised and is allocated to the Leningrad front as a reserve for the Pinsk Marshes exit.

00:00 29th, a Tide turning weapon is deployed for the first time. STAVKA believes that the responsible Soviet engineers are quite proud of themselves.

We've decided to call it the 1st "Heavy" tank. (It is a HARM brigade + 2 Guards brigades + an armored car)

-= Why the guards? I'm not going to upgrade the HARM's engine at all, 0, because I simply don't have the leadership to research it. Then why the AC? Because the AC will make it all move slightly faster on plains! Why the Guards divisions? Well because Guards have extremely high defensiveness - so not only will they generally be protected by the HARMs super high armor, but they'll also avoid getting hit more often than other brigades=-

It has been assigned to the Kiev Front.

5:00 29th The Germans in Kamaniets have done what we have tried to prevent for so long - attack the next exposed spot on the Dniester line, Borsuky. It seems we won't be able to hold, but General Vatutin is assigned with the task of out-flanking the Germans and preventing the assault on Borsuky.

hvU2RwH.jpg

The Romanians, Hungarians, and Bulgarians are also attacking Borsuky from across the river, as well as bombing but the Kiev Front's interceptors are already en route to jump them.

18:00 29th, Admiral Kuznetsov reports that Luftwaffe pilots have taken aim at the Baltic Fleet - we shall fight them off.

2:00, 30th, Vatutin calls of his attack, the Germans immediately stopped attacking Borsuky and defended their flanks.

Rudenko's TAC flight will bomb them for some time however

19:00, they've resumed their attack on Borsuky, and so shall we.

The Germans are also attacking Uzda again, and it looks like our line might break. We will try the same tactic that worked last month! Will Hitler learn?

The Italians have lost Alexandria again, but remain in contact with the bank of the Suez.

The Italians have also lost Mombasa - there is no more war in the horn of Africa.

Naval Action Summary

Since the war began, we have now sunk 628,000 tons of Axis shipping.

In extraordinary news, Soviet dock-workers in Batumi have announced that they have fully repaired the Paris Commune, it will resume action on October 1st. Their shock-work is a great example of Soviet labor heroism.

bring troops from the East!

If you're interested in Stakhanovites Count :
that's a fairly interesting propaganda news-reel about Stakhanov and his compatriots (they tried to have one for every major industry to be a sort of example for all of x type of workers) - including a very rousing speech by Kilm. Voroshilov lol. When I was doing my undergraduate work I had the opportunity to interview a now very elderly woman who had participated in the Stakhanov movement. Her grand-daughter assisted (my Russian is awful) and she was positively *shocked* that young people these days don't work according to norms and quotas and gave her grand-daughter a very hard time about it lol.

lol Markkur I got lucky on several accounts lol. Both fronts were about to break 2 months ago, and I still can't fight the Germans on equal footing - 4 German divisions vs 4 Soviet ones = sure German victory :( So we're nowhere near out of the woods yet. Another problem is going to pop up I would assume next year, because the Germans are almost sure to be able to research their armor and AT techs before I will be able to do so, and then we'll *really* be hurting any time German armor shows up. In real life the Soviets actually had a pretty big debate about using the Dniester as a defensive line - some generals wanted to withdraw to protect Kiev, and some wanted to stay on the Dniester - because it's a big river how can you turn the opportunity down? What they ended up doing what a sort of 1/2 and 1/2, where *some* units stayed on the Dniester and got flanked, and some units retreated to Kiev, and got flanked :(
Odessa front is turning into a pretty big bulge in the line too and if German HARM shows up they may be able to roll me up :(

lol Guillec there are no troops to bring really :(. We've got 28 divisions in the Far East - and they have not been reinforced or upgraded, ever, and are mostly just 2x divisions and 9 garrison divisions which likewise have never been upgraded or reinforced lol.

The Trans-Caucus does have 17 or so combat ready divisions, but they have to deter Axis Persia and Axis Afghanistan from creating a crisis in my "under-belly" as is is lol. If things are relatively calm in October, I may assign 1-2 extra infantry divisions or maybe some CAV to the Trans-Caucus and try to eliminate Persia and Afghanistan to free up troops. The reason I haven't done this yet is the British seem to really be having trouble in North Africa, and I'm afraid if I draw Persia into the war, they'll be unable to fight on two fronts at once and I'll have Italians trying to take Baku :(

Condition of the Fronts

Arkhangelsk Front:

- The situation is very stable, however, more and more Finnish troops are massing in Viipuri(Vyborg), and as such, if any new artillery is raised some of it will have to be sent here to prevent the FInns making a break for Leningrad.

Leningrad Front:

- The situation appears fairly stable, our defensive depth is good and the retreat behind the Daugava is mostly completed.
- Air forces still badly depleted

Kiev Front:

- Very stable with the exception of the assault on Borsuky which may require us to sacrifice our strategic depth to engage in more ardent assaults on Kamaniets.
- Air forces are making their presence known now and are inflicting heavy damage on Axis forces

Odessa Front:

- Very stable
- The Paris Commune coming back into action is a great confidence booster because we have the big guns to support us should the line become unstable.

Trans-Caucus Front:

- 3 new infantry divisions (complete in December) are being raised and are ear-marked for the Trans-Caucus. Barring a worsening situation on Leningrad of Kiev fronts, we will engage in offensive operations in Persia and Afghanistan around the new year in 1942.

Research

It is strongly believed by STAVKA that the Germans are attempting to create new guns, shells, and armor plating technologies to thwart us. We have begun making extra effort in these areas to make sure that the Germans do not gain a decisive advantage over us in 1942.

Oct 1st 00:00. Submarines in the Black Sea spot British STRAT bombers flying to somewhere in the Balkans. What their targets are we don't know, but we assume they must have come from Cyprus.

3:00 the Germans reengage in a massive attack through the front at:

- RIga, Rybalko says the 6 infantry divisions they've set against him are as gnats!
- Padsville, Kurochkin's force of 1 light armor and 3 infantry cannot hold against the 4 infantry and one light panzer of the Germans - a counter attack is ordered to sure up his position
- Plescanicy - the Germans attempt to turn the flank of our forces raiding Molodeczno.
- Polonne, Kiev Front, general Pavlov reports he cannot hold - 3 panzer divisions are facing his single tank and 3 infantry divisions
- Borsuky continues to hold out.
- The Germans recklessly assault Illichivsk again.

The whole Southern edge of the Leningrad front is either defending or attacking! For better or worse, our bombers will not engage - they must rest.

YTwApM5.jpg

12:00, General Kurasov reports victory in Borsuky, we lost 488, and killed 2631 Axis troops - they will now assist on the attack on Kamaniets.

23:00, 2nd, General Pavlov retreats from Polonne

4:00, 3rd, nearly 4,000 fascists die in the assault on Riga - the city still holds.

2 tank divisions from our reserve are en route to Kamaniets - we *must* throw the Germans back.

6:00, the Germans tried to turn our flank at Plescanicy - they were thrown back, leaving 1655 dead.

8:00, the battle for Uzda is over, we lost 2242 soldiers, while the Axis force lost 2806. We still hold Uzda - for now.

Our reserve tank division will be sent to Uzda to sure up their defenses, and to provide rest to several exhausted defenders - they will be sent to the rear.

11:00 we win the battle of Illichivsk again, 3767 Axis troops were not enough to cross the river!

00:00 4th, a new Interceptor wing is raised and assigned to the Leningrad interceptor squadron (now a flight of 3 INT wings)

3:00 we win the battle for Padsvillie. The counter-attack worked! But at a great cost. 2220 Axis soldiers died in the assault, but over 3,000 Soviet soldiers died in the counter-attack on Globekie.

- Tanks are turning the tide in the battle for Kamaniets.

8:00, German heavy armor enters Polonne... we will attempt to throw them back with General Pavlov's tanks and Zhigarev's CAS flight.

00:00, 5th, 4 new infantry divisions are ready for action. 2 were assigned to Leningrad front in the area around Padsville, and Uzda, 2 were assigned to Kiev front.

19:00, 5th, we lose, and counter-attack Netyshin with 3 tank divisions.

8:00, 6th, we finally win the battle for Kamaniets - but take massive losses relative to the Germans several divisions are completely exhausted, but at least Borsuky is safe.

23:00, all counter-attacks on Leningrad Front stop. Victory was unlikely, but we gave the Axis a thorough beating for taking Soviet land.

00:00 7th, we can see the heavy armor in Polonne retreating.

00:00 8th, a new infantry division is raised. Stalin has to calm an outbreak of fisticuffs between the FIeld Marshals of the Soviet Union over to whom it will be assigned. Ultimately, it is decided that it should be assigned to the Arkhangelsk front to sure up the defensive line outside Viipuri.

21:00, the Germans attack Pleiscany with 2 Panzer divisions and assorted infantry divisions - General Kariofilli's troops counter-attack. Novikov's CAS flight is ordered to assist.

KklH80K.jpg

In Plescanicy, General Karapov, leading 4 infantry divisions, must hold off a force of 2 panzers, and 5 infantry divisions. He seems confident and his troops are ready.
(Plescanicy is a forest)

1:00 9th, The Germans attack Padsvillie again, with 4 infantry divisions - we will attempt to turn their flank at Glebokie - Glazunov's tanks will be used. Shmuschkevich's TAC flight will also bomb them to what extent they are able.

12:00 10th, the Germans give up the assault on Padsvillie, we killed 1090 of them, but in combination with the defense and the counter-attack into Glebokie, we lost 1,600.

23:00 we are taking too many losses at Plescanicy and will retreat - this also means Kariofilli's troops will stop their counter-attack, all attack flights will rest again.

We badly mauled both panzer divisions
-=Less than 50% org on both=-

23:00 11th, Bulgarian units - a cavalry and an infantry division - enter Kamaniets. We attack them with 1 tank division and an infantry division - the attack is lead by general Solomatin.

00:00 12th, the Bulgarians retreat

Germans have entered the forest as Plescanicy - we counter attack them - it is lead by General Baranov's tank division.

18:00 12th, German heavy armor has entered Kamaniets - an all out attack on Kamaniets is ordered, again, we cannot allow those tanks to turn us from the Dniester!

4:00 13th, the Germans are run out of the the forest - 2 divisions showed up but were unable to engage us before their German friends were routed!

17:00 General Solomatin reports that the German heavies have been forced out of Kamaniets - Smuschkevich's TAC flight reports they believe they destroyed around 50% of the division's support brigades.

12:00 14th, badly disorganized Hungarian infantry enter the Plescanicy forest - they will be easily thrown back. We believe armor is en route however, and so we aim to soften the area as much as possible before that time.

16:00 15th, the Hungarians are dislodged.

11:00, 18th October, two divisions of infantry enter Kamaniets again - they will be thrown back by general Vatutin's troops!

3:00, 19th, panzers enter the forest of Plescanicy - we will attempt to throw them back!

6:00, 19th, we blasted the Germans out of Kamaniets - Vatutin's forces lost 198 troops, while the fascists lost 891.

20:00, general Baranov reports that the Panzers have left Plescanicy - only infantry remain, but more and more infantry are pouring into the forest.

22:00, 21st, Baranov reports that Plescanicy is free of fascists again.

00:00, 22nd, a new Heavy Armor division is produced. It will be granted to the Leningrad front to sure up Padsvillie's defenses.

3:00, 23rd, a light tank, and a Romanian infantry division attack Kamaniets - they will be thrown back!

R3kOqqx.jpg

15:00, the Romanians and the light tanks retreat - we killed 500 of them in the process.

8:00, 24th, Germans attack Uzda again, but this time the tanks of Semenchenko are there! It should be a much easier defense than in the past.

1:00, 25th, we were incorrect, a counter-attack on Molodeczno is required - 4 divisions from the Minsk garrision will attack, lead by general Krutikov!

12:00, 25th, the Germans are turned back from Uzda, 254 of our soldiers were lost - but they killed 1544 fascists.
Krutikov's counter attack is called off - they managed to kill another 388 fascists.

5:00, 26th, the Germans enter Plescanicy again - Baranov's tanks will chase them out once more!

Uzda is attacked again at this hour as well.

11:00 26th, Admiral Papanin reports that the Black Sea Fleet found a Romanian submarine, but doesn't believe that it was sunk - only badly damaged.

But at 20:00, on the 27th, our old rival has shown up in the Black Sea again! The Ciao Duilio! The crew of the Paris Commune will have the chance at revenge for the beating they took!

vZHBvMa.png

Air General Rychagov's MRF flight will assist.

00:00, 28th, the Italian fleet flees the battle. They are faster than our ships sadly. The Paris Commune took several minor hits and our destroyer squadron was nearly wiped out!

10:00, 28th, the Fascists are again thrown out of Plescanicy! This time it was a huge number of divisions that we threw back.

13:00, 28th, Black Sea DD flotilla arrives at Batumi for extensive repairs. The we have every confidence in the shock-work being carried out there.

16:00, 28th, German armor arrives in Kamaniets - Vatutin's troops will again have to engage in an all out assault to throw them back! The Dniester line must not fall.

00:00, 29th, a new CAS wing is raised and will be given to the Leningrad CAS flight - now with 4 CAS wings.

12:00, 29th, the Battle for Uzda is over again, for now, we lost 1452, while the Axis lost 3144.

Unfortunately, Semenchenko's tank division took the brunt of the Axis assault on Uzda, and will need to be withdrawn - there is hardly anything resembling a road in Uzda now - not very suitable for tank defense.

18:00, 29th, yet another raid on Kamaniets concludes - the panzers were forced to withdraw and took 1724 losses to boot!

16:00, 30, a massive armored assault on Berzene in the Kiev Front was initiated by the Germans. STAVKA is looking for avenues to counter-attack.

8zYW5Nc.png

17:00, 30th, 3 tanks and an infantry division under general Katukov attack Netyshin - the Southern flank of the assault on Berzene.

At the same time, 2 infantry divisions under General Chibisov assault Kostopol - the Northern Flank of the attack on Berzene - there are overwhelming forces here for Chibisov's troops, but we have little choice but to try to turn their flank.

All available bomber wings are sortied.

13:00, 31st, 2 German, and a Hungarian bomber wing appear in our skies - Skripio's INT flight must fight them all despite being badly depleted.

Around the World

The Italians are still threatening Cairo and Alexandria, and still are right on the banks of the Suez to the South, but no real news has come our way from there - the front is maybe stagnant? This situation has now existed for over a year and 1 month...

Naval Action Summary

Intelligence reports believe that we have sunk 674,000 tons of Axis shipping since the war began.

what is a WSS brigade?

I would guess that when I built the division, I attached a waffen SS brigade to it or merged the units so it carries that name lol. Whatever it is I did it lol. In that listing there you can also see - infanterie divisions are German divisions that I either built directly or the AI has built since I left - because all of Germany's starting divisions ended up renamed artillery (so that I could see just for fun lol). One is in reserve in the picture above too :D so that infantry division has existed since jan 1st, 36'.

November 1941

Condition of the Fronts

Arkhangelsk Front

- The ground has started to freeze in much of Arkhangelsk front. So, hopefully, that adds to the stability on this front.

Leningrad Front

- With a rather large thrust going on in Kiev Front right now STAVKA has toyed with the idea of offensive action on this front - but is timid to do so given that the last time a large offensive action was attempted it resulted in the entire front's near collapse.

Kiev Front

- Battle in Berezne will determine the status of the entire front. With such a huge force in the area, a loss on the Northern flank of the Kiev Front will result in the Odessa bulge becoming much larger.

Odessa Front

- Very stable for the moment, so far the Germans have been prevented from rolling back most of the Dniester line.

Trans-Caucus Front

- Offensive action is off the table for right now.

-------------------------

3:00, 1st, the Germans assault Riga and Illichivsk again, as well as Uzda.

All defenders report that their position seems to be good for now.

2:00, 2nd, we win the battle for Uzda once more, 124 Soviet soldiers lose their lives, while 1,248 fascists die.

Seeing a window, with the Germans exhausted from multiple assaults in the area, General Martsinkevich leads 3 divisions out of Mink to attack the exhausted Germans at Molodeczno. Tentatively, we will withdraw some of the forces currently holding the Daugava, and thrust them into this area of action. We will not sacrifice our strategic depth this time however.

VvIykx8.jpg

19:00, 2nd. With battles raging throughout the front - Japan declares war on the United States.

10:00, 3rd, the Germans call off their massive assault on Berezne. 1379 Soviet soldiers gave their lives to defend the Rodina, whilst they killed 2578 bandits.

14:00, 3rd, Rybalko reports that the German assault on Riga has failed, this time they killed 3,999 fascists in the defense. The Baltic Sea Fleet's big guns harried the Germans all the way back to the forest!

2:00, 4th, the Germans enter Kamaniets again, Vatutin will again throw them out!

5:00, the Germans give up on crossing the Dniester at Illichivsk again, 3659 of their troops died in the vain attempt.

9:00, 4th, Baranov reports that his tanks are under attack in Plescanicy. He reports that he can hold the forest while he awaits reinforcement.

12:00, we have thrown the Northern flank of the attack on Berezne away in Kostopol.
Our troops are too exhausted to pursue however.

15:00, we killed 700 Germans who tried to enter Kamaniets.

19:00, 4th, the massive battle of Netyshin ends - we lost 4,133, while the Axis lost 5776
Several of our tank divisions are completely exhausted in the attack.

18:00, 5th, Baranov reports that we now hold Plescanicy, and killed 633 Bulgarians in the defense, to the loss of only 60 of our own soldiers.

8:00, 6th, our attack on Molodeczno has finished, we will, tentatively, attempt to take the area.

13:00, general Simoniak, with 2 divisions, assaults a Romanian division in Wilejka, Baranov's old stomping ground.

15:00, 7th, Molodeczno is counter-attacked by the Germans. Our divisions are not progressing in an orderly fashion and general Sakhno's division may be severely bloodied for going too far ahead of the rest of the force.

1:00, 8th, a light tank division enters Kamaniets - it will receive the treatment all previous guests have been given!

3:00, 10th, 1387 more Germans die for attempting to set foot in Kamaniets.

5:00, 10th, a small offensive begins on Kiev Front - after the failure of such a massive assault, our tanks may be exhausted, but our infantry and motorized troops are in perfect fighting shape! The Axis will pay for Berezne!

GFGq3sw.jpg

14:00, 11th, we killed 1956 fascists in Polonne on the Kiev Front as part of our small offensive and will be moving the whole line forward to compensate - defensive depth will *not* be sacrificed.

18:00, 11th, General Baranov attacks a division of Romanians in Kryzwice - our objective is to perhaps entrap a small number of German divisions at Doksycy.

22:00, 11th, 3 Panzers counter attack us at Molodeczno - general Gurev reports that he refuses to leave the position and will fight on - he says his men relish the chance to shoot at tanks!

11:00, 12, 674 Romanians are killed in the taking of Kryzwice.

22:00, 12th, we win the battles of Kostopol and Rowne - Kiev front advances for now.

Worsening situation in Molodeczno however.

00:00, 14th, forward elements of Barnov's attack force come under attack in Kryzwice, but we will hold it off - the battle for Globekie is also proceeding well.

6:00, 14, Simoniak's division attempts to turn the flank of German panzers attacking Molodeczno.

12:00, 14, the Germans call off the attack on Kryzwice - they will now assist in the assault on Globekie.

21:00, 16th, our assault on Globekie has been a success, 3842 Soviets died in the assault, but we killed 5,522 Axis wolves!

22:00, 16th, tanks of the Kiev Front engage the enemy at Shepetikva and Krzemieniec

11:00, 17, we win the battle of Krzemieniec

13:00, 17th, Rotmistrov's tanks assault Luck and find only rabble!

16:00, we win the battle for Shepetikva.

17:00 Germans attempt to enter Kamaniets again - they will be hit with everything we have in the area!

19:00, Zherdev's division attack the Germans in Doksycy to tie them down so that our motorized troops might swing in behind them!

22:00, 17, we win the battle for Luck.

16:00, 18th, the Germans counter attack us in Shepetikva, Pavlov reports that this should not be an issue.

3:00, 19th, we are pushed back from Luck - German reinforcements are coming in heavily!

We have finished our entrapment of 5 divisions in Doksycy! General Zherdev's troops will be joined by many others soon.

nHtdmec.jpg

9:00, 20th, we assault Luck again. Badanov's tanks take on the panzers that forced us from there earlier!

16:00, 20th, the battle for Molodeczno still rages.

20:00, 20th, to relieve the pressure on our offensive, Rieter engages in a flanking attack on Zarasai - it is a forest so we don't expect the attack to succeed, but we must relieve pressure on our pocket around Doksycy or the Germans will be able to make their escape!

8:00 21st, the heavy armor which foiled our offensive last time has appeared in Luck... The Kiev Front's offensive action is stalling, but thankfully we have defensive depth so if a large counter-attack comes we should not buckle like the early days of this war!

15:00 21, the Germans attempt to bomb the Baltic fleet again, but are bounced by fighters immediately.

19:00, 21, Simoniak's troops attack the massive German concentration attacking Molodeczno to attempt to relieve our battered divisions there.

4:00, 23, we thwart the German counter attack at Rowne, killing 1,500 of them.

13:00, 23, a massive German assault force, including heavy tanks attacks our forward positions on the Kiev Front at Krzemieniec - General Sandalov reports that there is absolutely no way he can maintain the position - we will attempt to turn the heavy tank's flank before surrendering the area.

15:00, 23, the Germans are again chased from Kamaniets - but this time we ended up the bloodier for it.

20:00, it is decided Sandalov indeed cannot hold.

00:00, 24th, after raging for 13 full days, the battle for Molodeczno appears lost - Gurev's troops fought valiantly, but they are completely exhausted - we will have to retreat, and call off the entire Leningrad offensive operation because our Southern flank is greatly exposed. They need to hold out until 14:00 to allow us to reestablish defenses in the South.

fgil5sy.jpg

A new infantry division is raised at this hour as well, it will be positioned in Minsk.

10:00, 24, Stern's troops turn back the last German attempt to free the troops trapped in Doksycy - we assume this is the last - because any future attacks will come too late!

15:00, 24, we win the battle for Zarasai, 3,440 Germans die in the attack.

2:00, 25th, more heavy armor appears and attacks us at Proskurov, the Southern extent of the Kiev front (over top of Kamaniets). General N.A. Novikov is dubious about whether or not he can hold. Zhigarev's CAS flight will attempt to pound the German tanks to give him a fighting chance!

7:00, 25th, we win the battle for Volochysk. It is adjacent to Proskurov. 4,073 fascists died - and soon we will have the ability to turn the flank of the German heavy tanks!

If General N.A. Novikov can hold until the 27th, our own heavy tanks will join the fray! It will be the first test of our heavies against the Germans.

21:00, 25th, meteorologists are noting that the ground in and around Leningrad front should freeze solid soon.

22:00, 25th, more German heavy tanks attack us at Rowne, general Zhmachenko reports that we should be able to hold. The Germans are attacking with 2 panzer divisions, a light tank division, and a heavy tank division, against 3 Soviet tank divisions, and 4 infantry divisions.

4:00, 26th, General Khrulev leads an attack to try to turn the enemy attack of Rowne's flank at Kiwerce.

8:00, 26th, the Germans give up on Volochysk. We can now flank one set of heavies!

12:00, 26th, the Germans in Doksycy have been eliminated - it cost them 40,000 or more troops.

13:00, 26th, special commendations to Novikov's CAS flight - Gurev's defense of Molodeczo continues because his CAS bombers have so resoundingly devastated German armor attacking them. Perhaps CAS really are like air to the army.

00:00 27th, we win the battle for Proskurov.

8:00, 27th, our heavy tanks of Kiev front attack Kamaniets - so that we can retake the province, at last.

10:00, 27th. General Gurev received a special full page spread today in the evening edition of Pravda. His troops have held Molodeczno against all odds! His men heroically held off the Germans for 16 days and turned away several tank divisions with no armor of their own. Truly Gurev and all of his men are heroes of the first order! 6,312 implacable Soviet heroes gave their lives in Molodeczno, while they eradicated 14,741 torturers of the people!

11:00 General Kariofilli's troops are sent to relieve our heroes in Molodeczno.

The results of Novikov's bombing raids has been absolutely devastating to German panzers that were assaulting Molodeczno for so long

1kaSOfe.png

18:00, 27th, Leningrad front's offensive line has broken at Kryzwicze - that would have freed the divisions at Doksycy - but they broke through far too late.

8:00, 28th, dual victories are reported on the Kiev front at Kamaniets and Rowne - we have survived the heavy armor counter-attack and regained a position along the Dniester line!

14:00, 28th, victory is reported by Khrulev in Kiwerce.
Khrulev lost ~350 men, but killed over 1,000 fascists.

Meteorologists report that the majority of the Kiev Front is going to turn to mud, and then freeze.

Movement on all of the fronts is grinding to a halt as freezing mud overwhelms even the strongest of heroes.

23:00, 29th, the Germans assault Rowne again, general Zhmachenko again worries for his position.

15:00, 30th, the Germans counter-attack us at Kamaniets with a panzer and a heavy armor division - we may not be able to hold this position according to Solomatin.

19:00, 30th, the Germans attack just north of Molodeczno at Smorgonie, general Berzarin reports that his men are so inspired by the example of General Gurev's men that they are sure to hold!

General Horujenko counter-attacks into Kryzwicze - German fast-moving motorized troops have moved into the area well ahead of their infantry which are slowed significantly by the freezing mud.

Around the World

The Italians have made gains in North Africa - they are again at the gates of Alexandria and Cairo both, while also maintaining some sort of presence on the very banks of the Suez to the South.

The USA is at war with Japan and her puppets, but is *not* a member of the Allies yet. Nor have they declared war on the rest of the Axis.

The Japanese, likewise, are only at war with the USA and the Philippines and no other parties.

The Japanese have made landfall in the North of the Philippines. They have also taken Guam, Wake Island, Attu Island, Johnston Island, Christmas Island, and Phoenix Island.

News from the US reports that the Japanese have already lost two battleships, the Nagato and the Hyuga, the US has lost two heavy cruisers. It would appear despite taking over so many islands the Japanese navy is getting the worst end of the exchange.

The English papers also reveal that the Bismarck has been in action again, and is still out there somewhere. Admiral Kuznetsov is abundantly aware of his position outside of Riga should either Bismarck or Tirpitz show up.

Naval Action Summary

Chief of the Navy, Admiral Isakov was proud to report to STAVKA that according to the Red Navy's count, we have sunk 1.014 million tons of Axis shipping since the beginning of the war!

NU in Germany must be really low due to all the convoys losses

It could be, it'd be somewhat exciting to me since, I suspect, no allied bombing has really hit them because of all the INT I gave them, they prolly have 60+ more IC than me, and infinitely more leadership :(

Stalin has to calm an outbreak of fisticuffs between the Field Marshals of the Soviet Union over to whom it will be assigned.
Patton vs Monty...Soviet -style.:D

I have an idea that may aid a westerner like me in more easily capturing your challenge with "The Front" Comrade Field Marshall. I love the nitty-gritty story-telling in the various sectors (I nearly feel like shouting orders myself, though my wife would have me locked-up) but as I am not well enough educated to know all the place-names in Mother Russia; I wonder if you would mind taking the final large Front-screen that you post at concluding the update and marking The Front-line with i.e. (solid-lines) Green = you think this part of the line is strong, Yellow = stable at the moment and Red = seriously contested or retreat. Of course you could add broken-lines as well to communicate more about the condition of the line. Just a thought I have but with no way of knowing if it is actually more a silly idea.

Anyway Cheers...and "Not One Step Back!;)

December, 1941

Condition of the Fronts

Arkhangelsk Front:

- This front is entirely frozen, and will not see any movement this month.

Leningrad Front:

- German counter-attacks will likely force us back in several areas, the extent to which, will likely be determined at Molodeczno.

Kiev Front:

- Some motion and fighting yet, but as the mud is quite thick, it's unlikely a lot of movement will be going on any time soon.

Odessa Front:

- STAVKA has toyed with the idea of releasing troops from Odessa front to fight on Kiev Front, but such a decision is unlikely, as Odessa front only has very poorly equipped divisions to give.

Trans-Caucus Front:

- With Italy's progress in Africa renewed, 3 new divisions will be placed here in case the Axis should attempt to strike at the Caucus and Caspian Sea areas, to assure that we can hold the vital resource bearing areas there.

-------------------------------------------------------

3:00, December 1st, the Germans begin a massive counter-attack on Leningrad Front

- Riga is assaulted again, Rybalko claims the city will hold with little trouble
- General Berzarin's troops are still under attack in Smorgonie, he expects to hold
- General Glazonov is under attack in Zerasai, and reports that the defense could be very challenging, if not impossible - we will wait for the infantry to catch up to make a decision.
- General Gurev's heroes at Molodeczno come under attack again, they are still not relieved from their ordeal in November due to slow movement of the relief force.
- The Germans also try to cross at Illichivsk again. Chuikov reports that the Odessa front should have no trouble dealing with them.

9:00, 1st, we cannot hold Kamaniets, and retreat. We engage in a heavy tank vs. heavy tank battle on Horodok to try to dislodge the German heavies that chased us from Kamaniets.

11:00, 1st, the Germans give up the assault on the heroes of Molodeczno. 400 are killed.

18:00, 1st, the United States announces that it has joined the Allies.

20:00, 1st, the Japanese declare war on the Allies.

8:00, 2nd, Berzarin reports victory in Smorgonie - we killed 1108 fascists, and lost only 122.

Around the World

The Italians took, and then lost, Cairo. Persia has taken over Northern Iraq, but the Iraqis have taken over SW, Persia. The Afghans have also taken some territory from Britain. The Trans-Caucus front should be fully under allied control by the end of January, and with our ability to garrison the Persia-Iraq border, we will not need to fear any Axis incursion into the Caucus from the South. Italian divisions are also entrapped against the Suez canal, so perhaps they will be weakening despite the extremely chaotic situation.

In Eastern Asia, the Japanese have struck out from Siam and are progressing up the coast, are at the gates of Manila, and they have also taken Midway Island.

As far as STAVKA's appraisal of how the war in the Pacific is going, Japan has lost the Kongo and 2 CAs, and a number of smaller ships this month, while the US has lost only a CL this month. So, we tend to think Japan is not doing as well as its territorial conquests suggest.

Naval Action Summary

We sank no enemy shipping last month - perhaps the seas were frozen over?

Good idea Markkur, I'll back up and post a different one for December and see how it looks :D I'm tempted to take the thing in paint and put some cities on there because it's hard to tell where, for example, Kiev is - but I can't figure out a way to do it on the planner that won't be either too small to see or look bad lol. The names for the tiles are pretty hard to keep straight even for me because all of the place names are a random hodge-podge of Eastern European languages' names for the places lol. My hope is just to construct a story where they appear often enough it gets "known" even if I pry couldn't find it at the start of the game lol. Especially, since I figure we'll be fighting over these same provinces for a long time to come, unless something really good/bad happens lol.

My recommendation is to use a few big picture images with large numbers on them that us non-Rodina-familiar people can use to reference!
