This. I need a chat like in W:RD, it was just hilarious, it was more a chat with a game than a game with a chat xd

It's not hilarious but a pure cancer.

Eugen should using Steam API add option to connect channel with Steamgroup chat, so I can still talk to my Wargame buddies without switching to Steam overlay.

LOL if you were there, you should know that that chat was full of humour and racists jokes xd

Is that a good thing? Without getting into a political discussion consider that racism is actually something that most people don't like, and is illegal in several European countries. Eugen had to spend resources moderating the chat so that the game wouldn't face legal issues. I doubt they'll do that again.

I was there, almost 2000 hours spend playing Wargame and I have seen it all.
Warchat is dumb, repetitive and not useful.

Not useful to you perhaps.

Something the naysayers here are forgetting.

1) Humour is subjective, this is the primary point. Banter is not something everyone gets either, just like tooth decay.
2) Some people actually used it for its intended purpose, this died off over time, but I remember for a long time when it first came up that it would be used as a way to discuss units, how to play with them, etc, helping newbies and vets alike.
3) People say "oh but i can use the steamz to talk to my friends", thats a problem, because how the hell do you expect new people to make friends to play with? YOU might have buddies to go curb stomp the pubbies but personally i liked finding new people using that and joining them, thats how i made a few friends in the game to play with.
4) Its only as bad as people let it become, when you let people take control of it then thats all of us at fault, it would also help to have it written in that you can be perma banned for abusing the chat with racial/homophobic hatred, but personally I dont care about that as i would just block people whom did it and continue using it for fun jokes or for finding people to talk to about the game/playing the game with.

Bring the chat home boys, bring the chat home!

I wouldnt argue it good or bad, i would say it depends on the context of said jokes, but then again i have a dark sense of humour myself. The main issue of legality of the jokes doesnt really effect eugen or the chat, its up to each person to not break their national laws i believe? Unless certain countries have gone silly with how they implement the laws (eg twitter doesnt get threatened if somebody tweets racism).

They dont have to put resources into it, get some people they trust, give them access to the chat, allow them to ban people, this is something games have done for at least 15 years which i have played.

The context of warchat jokes were just very flatly offensive and disparaging. It was no doubt discouraging to normal people whom I would have liked to play with. They open the game and are immediately met with a bunch of swastikas a bunch of racial and nationalist slurs. It doesn't phase me, but it phases a lot of people and I prefer having a bigger community with more games.

The real question is, do you want the average person to think, "That one game where you go fight people in ww2" or "That one game nazis play where they post pictures of Hitler made out of unicode symbols in chat"

Which again, is why they should build it in such a way that you can give people powers to control said chat, free moderators etc, hell I would happily do that, ban people left and right for doing those kinds of things for free on my free time and between games (i have done it for other games). A simple system of "1 day ban - 30 day ban" should handedly fix the system if theres actual moderation as lets be frank, the last system simply didnt have that. Theres a reason why you dont get these issues in other communities with ingame chat, they moderate the hell out of it lol(free moderators at that).

This way we keep jokes, we keep helpfulness, we get rid of the abuse, then people think "the game you go for ww2, interesting discussions and also to meet a nice community".

It was funny, for a short time, but having to look at the same Hitler-jokes, swastikas and whatnot every time you log in gets kind of boring after a while. You know, when you grow up. It's pretty much internet in a nutshell, vast majority of it is cancer and you can feel and hear your brain cells die, and all hope leave your body when you read it, but ever so rarely there's actually something genuinely funny there.

Even then, a chat of some kind is probably necessary.

I don't know what you mean great community, people were so incredibly toxic to each other. If there was an easy report system and/or maybe an automated chat bot moderator then I guess it would be improved. It's not like it will stop me from buying the game, like i said i don't care, but a community which is famous for being toxic is obviously going to deter some people.

Warchat was definitely extremely toxic with all the conspiracy, Neo-Nazi rhetoric, etc. Still, I don't think axing global chat is necessary.

Spam prevention (through post frequency limit for instance) and keyword moderating would help curb the cancer that constantly went around there. I actually had a few decent conversations on global chat (legitimately sensible debate) and I'd hate to see that opportunity go. If necessary, there's always the possibility of making multiple global chats or allowing us to make private chat rooms independent from lobbies.

Plus, the all important thing, Warchat, or more specifically, lobby chat needs to be easy to see along with a poke feature for lobby hosts (most notably, in the armory/deck crafting, having UI that tells you which menu the players in the lobby are in would also help). I've seen far too many AFK hosts who aren't actually AFK.

While we invite open discussion, and also realize people have differences of opinion on what is funny, we do not tolerate jokes at the expense of others. Referencing homophobia or racism, as a "joke" or being "funny" is not an excuse to do so or acceptable.

We look forward to growing this great community that loves Eugen Systems games here on the Pdx forum, but please remember that we have a different set of rules that strives to be inclusive to all.

It would be nice to draw something like a Offensive / defensive line.
The Team - mates would see that (for some minutes) and know what u are going to do.

Like the draw mode in hearts of iron 4.

Everyone is focusing on the public chat, wargame chat had some other features, and also a mute option to thoose who are more sensible. I think it was nice to have a chat ingame, it allowed some discussions about tactics and such.
