If i understand correctly you will only use tenders for one jump? Linking sounds more reasonable.
A Tender would just sit on the jump point and assist ships through in both directions, coming and going. Since there is only one critical jump point (Sol <=> Luyten 726-8) it would arguably be more economic to build a single Tender than to research and build a Jump Gate Constructor ship... but since retooling a yard for a single ship is grossly inefficient regardless, it makes little economic difference which method we choose.

A constructor ship would allow us to create new links and extend the highway, and would allow any size of ship through; while a Tender (or several) would allow us to transit a jump point as soon as we move onto it, without waiting a year for the gate construction to finish... but our jump would be limited in tonnage to the size of the Tender itself. A 100,000-ton ship requires either a jump gate or a 100,000+ ton Tender.

One turn after the four-squadron Vogel Strike Fighter build completes, our Carriers are completed and launched. THAT was nicely timed!

Who's in? We have three 25,000 ton Carriers (with Air groups) available, another one due in a month, followed by four more in two years.

Total: eight fleet carriers.

If only I wasn't in suspended animation as a prisoner of the hippie robots.

The drugs and visions are awesome, by the way...But I fear I'll die in this drugged out state.

I feel that we might as well start colonizing some of the worlds on that interstellar highway... thus making it OUR highway.

This will require either linking the Earth into the network, or researching, designing and building a Jump Tender that can move our civilian ships onto the network.

Comments?
I think we should link Earth into the network.

I would love to take command of one of the newly made carriers. As one of the heroes of this age, I think it's in my right to ask for such a thing Kaiser blue emu. Was it not me who first took one of the fighters and explore the inner planets. Was it not me that was one of first to travel to a new solar system. I may not have been the first to meet new intelligent life, but I was the first to meet peacefully intelligent life. If it was not for my cool head we would not be at peace with the Bugs. I have also made a pledge to myself to avenge my peers that were killed by the Hippies.

((Can i see how my char skills are looking?))

It sounds like you need a lot of pilots...

I do not wish to take honor from those who deserve the captain chairs. I volunteer to move from the Space Tug to one of the fighters themselves.

Oh, and please sign me up again Manfred Otto von Mollendorf (the brother of the deceased von Mollendorf). A Carrier is a fine thing to command. :D

Are commands being handled like in Ad Astra, in which characters have to gain experience by commanding a scouting vessel (or some other equivalent) before moving up to a military command?
If so, please sign me up to command a scout vessel. If not, I'd like to command one of the carriers.

Phew, I'm 300 pages into the Ad Astra, that was a cool game!

Sign me up for whatever grunt work you have available! Preferably for one of the ships that came free thanks to promotions. :p

Currently the first four Carriers have been given to the NPCs with the highest Crew Training rating. Once they reach 100% Fleet Training, I will look over this thread and redistribute them to characters.

TheExecuter can choose whether to continue his captured character or start a "family member" character, retaining seniority. It's quite possible that his starting character (along with most of the other player's starting characters) will reach retirement age before we have a decent fleet assembled.

I'll wait for my current character to die or retire (or be rescued).

Any new character will start with beginning seniority.

I knew the risks of flying the exploration ships... :)

I also want my next char or char son to start at beginning seniority with a good political reliability bonus.

Our Naval builds are moving forward nicely.

We have four (25,000-ton) Carriers in Fleet Training, and another four under construction. That same shipyard is now retooling for (25,000-ton) Battle Management Vessels, to be laid down as soon as the second run of four Carriers clears the slipways. These BMVs will double as Jump Tenders for the Carriers.

While that's going on, we have been researching the techs needed for Gauss Point Defense Frigates. We are currently researching the last required tech (the Quad Gauss Turrets based on a Gauss Cannon already designed), and will soon be laying down the (10,000-ton) PD Frigates.

Richard "Rendap" von Rabenstrange signing up for ship command - Preferable of the carrier Sternenlicht, but anything goes.

Good to see the Emu back in action.
