Actually, Psionics no longer Spiritualist-only in 1.8. They have an easier time with it and psionics still cause major ethics attraction to Spiritualism, though.
Well I suppose it makes sense considering AI rights uniqueness of materialists have also been removed.
I still want to make the ethics more distinct, but the Psionics/AI Rights and Ascension paths seems to be the sort of restrictions that really chafe on people's ability to build the empires they want, so I decided to walk back some of the ethics restrictions.
Oh... ok... I was a fan of your approach to psionic and spiritualist tied together, it was nice that the Stellaris lore set the law that said that to reach the shroud your people needed to have a special mindset and a predisposition to accept a realities beyond their own and the existence of being beyond material comprehension, but I think this will give more options and variables for role play aspects... I'm not agreeing with this but I'm not against it either. Perhaps in a future we can have “accidents” that awake psionically some pops of our empire without the ascension, maybe because of the meddling of an already psionic spiritualist neighbor empire or something on the lines of “fate” or “luck”, good or bad.
I have nightmares that too many launched retargeting Missiles will get their own machine consciousness and form their own empire with machine worlds. In the end getting psionic trait, enter the shroud and want to take over the galaxy! Who is hyped?
Spiritualist Materialists.
I know by the basic function of how materialists and spiritualists are designed, that's not possible, but still. A man can dream.
I kinda want to make a race that worships science, tbh. A race where there religion is the scientific method. But in the dogmatic sense of a religion rather than the logical sense of a scientist.
What would a machine cult look like though?
The existing Materialist faction really loves them some robits, but would a machine cult desire ascension to be machines or would they prefer to construct ever more perfect machines.
