Point. But Bond hasn't handled it nearly as well as Doctor Who.

I ascribe to the theory that Bond is a title rather than a name. It just makes sense with what little work the writers have done to explain the actor shift.

I always thought that it was something more akin to Bonds from different realities, à la multiverse. However, your theory could work, specially if that was the course of action the writers decide to take when it's time to replace Craig. That would also provide more continuity between movies.
