Description
Graphics are messed up really bad on Mac

What is your game version?
latest, just installed it

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
The graphics look all messed up, in pretty psychedelic colours, heh. I'm posting on a new thread because I haven't seen other glitches that look like mine.

I'm running on a Macbook Pro late 2015, 16 GB RAM and AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB.

Can you replicate the issue?
Yes, each time I start a new game

I'm having an issue where none of the menu icons show up a few minutes into any new game. The build menus, research menus, etc. all just disappear. They reappear if I hover over the spot where they are supposed to be but I still am not sure where everything is. Very frustrating.

I am running this on:
MacBook Pro 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536

This is well below the minimum spec for the game, so any fix for the above issues may not help you, I'm sorry. The game is simply not tested on Intel video systems.

Ugh. Can y'all work on this? My game looks okay, but the research screen, background of text boxes, and sometimes the build icons don't appear. Its SEMI-playable, but not fun because of this issue.

Thanks for clarifying. It's quite difficult to figure out where any particular video card is on the specs, when you're a mac-user in a windows-dominated game culture.

Integrated Intel video systems are simply weaker and slower than proper discrete AMD or nVidia cards. There is no way for us (or even Intel) to fix that, it's a characteristic.

None of our main games have been supported in Intels since, oh, before EU3 I think. This is not a new thing!

I have the same problem with the UI being missing. The game itself is running ok, but the ui breaks at some random point. I doubt it has anything to do with the graphics card being too weak. It can obviously render the UI properly at first. The earliest I got this error was when starting a new mission (screenshot added).
I filed for a refund on steam, but because I have a bit over 3h of gametime (I could not wait and wanted to try on my friends computer) they are reluctant to refund. 40€ is a bit too much for a game I can only play on someone elses computer.

If you need me to test something or send more screenshots, I'm glad to help.

specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB

I also made a short video of the problems as they occur. I can mostly get the UI to re-render by either going to research or encylopedia screen. And it mostly seems to break when going to the build menu. Also my hotkeys were not working, but that could have been due to screen recording.

When listing the requirements, please specify this then. The game works fine with the exception of where this thread is most recently moving to ... some UI elements disappearing periodically and randomly.

If you do not support Intel graphics:
1. Perhaps you should. With BRAND NEW MacBook Pro's having that Video processor, there is a lot of revenue to be had.
2. Call it out explicitly, rather than assuming we know what you historical internal plans are when we are sent an email about purchasing a new game.

When listing the requirements, please specify this then.
As is normal we specify what cards the game IS supported on. In the case of Macs:
Graphics: OpenGL 4.1 (GeForce 600/AMD Radeon 5000 or higher) with 1GB of video RAM
Intels are not mentioned so they are not supported.

It's not only a question of making a decision. Intels are simply less capable than discrete GPUs. Some stuff is not possible on them. Whether that affects this game I'm not in a position to know.

For me everything looks as intended, but the performance is low with fps drops down to 15.

iMac 2017, OS X 10.13.3
40 GB Ram
Radeon Pro 580, 8 GB vram

Using the windows version via bootcamp and windows 10, everything is fine.

So a better question would be, since Intel is not supported, will it ever be supported? If the answer is no, then I can request my refund now, end of story, no holding out for hope. Simply saying "Intel is not supported" over and over in multiple posts about this problem doesn't help ease any frustration Mac users are having right now because a game they've waited so long to play is "not supported" by their machine and unplayable. Giving out snarky comments about how Intel is never mention so it's not supported is also a BS answer. Cities: Skylines, another game by Paradox specifically listed "Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards" in the System Requirements on Steam (image attached). Nowhere is that to be found for Surviving Mars. How are we to know that? It feels like false advertising to me that you say a game is MacOS compatible, and from my understanding, most Macs have Intel graphic cards and only the powerful iMacs have the supported graphic cards. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is Paradox working on making Intel supported? Are Mac users just SOL because we have "weaker" graphic cards? Is there a solution and what's the timeline for a patch? That's all we need to know. Please answer these questions and not give us lectures about graphic cards and how "it's always been this way" or other excuses. Thank you.

If Haemimont fix the actual problem with the map rendering, the people with newer macs with Intel card have a slight chance of running the game on the lowest graphics settings, even if it is not specifically supported.

Most 15" Macbook Pros have a discrete Video adapter and there should be no problem with that, yet there is and that needs fixing from the developer.

I am actually quite surprised that anyone at all was expecting a new game, or any proper new game, to run on an integrated video adapter really. Even the newest iterations of the Intel integrated videos are not meant for gaming at all, they are just not powerful enough for that.

I hope Haemimont are working hard to find the root cause of this bug and fix it as soon as possible. I haven't actually received any updates on my support ticket in almost two days.

I am facing the same issue. Macbook Pro 2017

Sir, main issue is buggy gameplay on Mac, not just terrain graphics.

No, as the thread title says, the main issue that this thread discusses is "Graphics are messed up really bad on Mac".

If you have issues with none graphics related bugs, like gameplay as you say, I suggest you open as separate thread so that different problems are not mixed up.

Unless you have a PC, Intel integrated is fine, this taken off Paradoxplaza site, just posting in case some windows guys think they are not supported.

Minimum
OS: Windows 7 64-bit or newer
Processor: Dual-core CPU
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Intel integrated video HD 4000 or higher with 1 GB of video RAM
Storage: 10 GB available space

I'm correcting you: you're wrong.
A majority of Mac computers (macbooks, imacs, etc.) are sold with non-intel graphics cards. Usually only the cheapest models only have an intel graphics card.

Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200

Do I understand that I cannot expect this to work out?
