18. Chapter: The beginning of the end
November 1945 - January 1946
Horthy ordered the Royal Hungarian Army to help the German allies
Meanwhile the Italian offensive in the near-East crumbled
The Soviets are pushing from/into west Slovakia
On the 19th of November Henneyey fears came true, the OKW officially anounced that the war is lost. OKH Berlin tried to stop the offensive in Romania/Ukrain but OKH Kyiev did not listen. Generals started to take decisions of their own, there was no united command. The Red Army was getting closer and closer to Berlin, the German defense of Germany was falling down like dominoes.
As a consequence of that, Horthy ordered the creation of Austria and Yugoslavia, so that those people could stand a better chance, as they were "forced" into Hungary.
Situation on the front on the release of Austria and Yugoslavia
The plan of new defensive lines, yellow is the first deffensive line, than blue and finally red
Seems like the Austrians have some sense of humor left
Situation on December 1st - red line, blue line (1st of November), green line (1st of October), yellow line (1st of September)
Heavy battles comences
Hungarian soldiers fending off the Soviets
Situation near Berlin after the Wehrmacht retreated from the river Oder
Gustav Henneyey sent the tanks in defense of Wien as Horthy ordered, but how long can they hold their position?
The situation doesn´t look promising on the 1st of January 1946
Most of Hungarian people have been moved as the army falled back, as people didn´t want to be fall under the Reds
On the 23rd of January Berlin fell, the German armed forces are not even the shadow of what they used to be.
A part of Horthy speech to the Royal Hungarian Army
"..now you are not fighting for the Great Hungary or for me, now you are fighting for yourselves, for your families and beloved ones. I will not say that things look good as they don´t, but if you do your best can hold the lines and stop the Bolsheviks from...."
