From the text description he gave you a potion, so the cure was probably poison that caused necrosis or sepsis in your leg or something.
The potion can't be the cure otherwise the saw wouldn't have been mentionned. It's most certainly an anesthesic
The flu was obviously caused by an excess of phlegmatic humor. It would also have caused some swelling in the extremities, by vigorous massage and hopping on one leg all of the bad humor could be confined to just one leg. The physician would then have made the patient drink an infusion of mandrake root and poppy seeds to make him drowsy, then cut the leg off to take away the the sickness and bring the remaining humors back into balance.
Makes perfect sense to me.

i have only very recently started to play ck2 (3 days ago, and so far this is my most successful game) so i cannot say if that is too strange, but I didnt know this immortal being had an uncle that likes fishing. Wouldnt he be in india or something? Im the despot of sicily i dont have time to go to india ;_;
