EU4 - Development Diary - 12th of June 2018

Good day all. It's everyone's favourite time of the week: EU4 Dev Diary time. We've covered the three meatiest changes coming in Dharma in our previous diaries, that is to say the Government Overhaul, Policies rework and the revamped Estates. We'll likely go back over these in a future dev diary to make something of a "cliff notes" of big changes in 1.26 and Dharma.

That said, we're still far from done with all the neat things to show you in our upcoming Mughals update and the Dharma expansion. Today, I'll show you a feature from each.

Firstly, as I teased in an earlier tweet we are adding a new mapmode with the update: one that has been requested since time immemorial. The Truce Mapmode.

Ottomans are under-powered: pretty much no targets in 1444

Implemented with pride by the Caped Crusader @Duplo the truce mapmode allows you to see all nations with whome you have a truce with in a gradual tone of red. As the truce comes to an end, the brightness of the red dissipates. Additionally, nations that you have a casus belli on are marked in green stripes. Grey nations on the map naturally are ones you have no truce with.

Here's a more "hands on" example of how it looks in play.

Nobody messes with Nepal but Nepal messes with everyone.jpg

Nepal is an awesome formable in 1.26. The Prussia of the East.

No more will you be forced to click on all nations around you to figure out if they are fair game without chugging that -5 stab hit (minus three with Diplomatic ideas) The information is right here, and this mapmode is available to all with the 1.26 Mughal Update.

Another change coming along, this time with the Dharma expansion, is a change to how one Autonomously Suppresses Rebels. Now your army can be told exactly which areas to hunt rebels in, and the selected areas will have their unrest reduction spread out in those areas

Revolting Lithuania Peasants.jpg

It'll take Lithuania some time to get to India. In the meantime, they'll get their internal affairs in order.

In this new rebel suppression mode, which replaces the old auto-rebel-hunt for Dharma owners, armies will reduce unrest in the selected areas by up to 5 and hunt down any revolts strictly within the selected areas while avoiding enemy armies. Where-ever you give them this command will be treated as their "home" province and they will return to there upon defeating any rebel scum. In this mode, their unrest reduction is increased five-fold, but still capped at 5 and will be spread out across the provinces. If you want to have an army suppressing a large, revolting area, better make sure it's a good one.

That'll be it from me this week. While there's much more I'd love to be telling you about next week, I'll be handing the mic over to the talented @Audiomancer who is eager to tell you about the audio improvements coming in 1.26 which have been a long time coming.

I'd personally like it if a perk like spread rebel suppression wasnt tied to me explicitly permitting the ai to take control over my armies. Any way that could be done? For example, let the old rebel hunting mechanic be replaced with this area one, and add another toggle (similar to drill) to activate rebel suppression.

Not so much for this week. I would recommend the new map mode as it's so useful. I'll prefer waiting for more details about the suppressing rebels function to tell if it is meaningful or not. Seriously since not so many content left, I guess Dharma would come within one month.

Come on Paradox, there's still much needed to be enriched, don't waste time on minor changes. I would definitely love a content DLC which enriched the diplomatic action, casus belli and family tree. Like, you may choose one of your son's as heir, defeat foreign forces supporting your brothers claiming your throne, and secretly murder your enemy's ruler. Also, win a war with 100% score, abolish enemy ruler and support a puppet ruler is really attractive.

I don't really think, that this truce-map-mode is necessary or that helpful ...

For my nation, there's already this blue-white-striped flag-symbol which even shows me the exact dates of the ends of my truces ...

If any, it would be more helpful to have more detailed informations in the war-declaration-screen since sometimes, my allies don't want to join my war since they "have a truce" with the target-nation, so that it would be more helpful to know the exact dates of the ends of these truces within the war-declaration-screen.

No, rebel suppression requires the army at max morale, we won't add ways to mothball armies.

It's kinda conflicts with the professionalism mechanic.

I've read this three times and still can't figure out whether a five-province area would get -1/province or -5/province with unrest. Unrest is obviously still province-based, judging from the "highest unrest" phrasing among the army options.
Also, does the last sentence mean that the area or army should be good?

burnhill10 I play this game over 1 year now and spend more then a 1000 hours in it allready. but I would like more ledger filters: all: War friend or all war participant and colour blue and red for friend and enemie, europa asia Etz. and ALL vassels not only you vassels but also Marches CS CN . In the ledger there is a filter named positive opinion, but the legder that you are in dont show who has the highest opinion with you, i would like it if that can be add in this update.
But in the Legder there are some shortcuts that are under the ledger but make them just like map mode , If you can make you own shotcuts that you prefer you can make the Ledger more helpfull and faster to work with.
This is my opinion good for single player and multiplayer , looking really forward to the update so keep up the good work.

1.26 feature

Groogy,

Speaking of the Estates Map Mode mentioned earlier, is there any way to have those Areas that are Stated, but do NOT have an Edict Active be colored differently than Un-Stated Provinces? Its a little frustrating to find Older States that no longer have Edicts Active when a New Edict comes into play that needs to be activated in them.

Means the army should be good, the "it's a good one" refers to the subject of the action (suppressing) of the embedded sentence.

I think it means you can get up to -5 per province in the selected areas, depending on stack size.

It would be nice if you could assign armies to patrol for rebels in areas/regions for lategame?(obviously without reduced unrest in whole area, that would be just silly). Look forward to testing it!

Can I ask again, will you add exclusive mission trees to other DLC nations than only Third Rome ?
And maybe due to small content for this week maybe some tips what will be next target or atleast what won't be :)

Yay! I like changes that improve the "playing the game"/"fighting with the UI to get the information I want" ratio :)

So right now there is a friendly troops station modifier when you have an army stack on a province. Is it this modifier that will be spread out on all the provinces you select for rebel surpression?
