CK2 Dev Diary #87 - Killing Spree

Greetings!

Today I’ll cover a minor feature of the upcoming Holy Fury expansion, the ‘Kill List’. The Kill List is, simply put, a list of everyone a character has killed and how they died. The list is accessed from a button in the character interface, in our example here we have a typical incarnation of Genghis Khan:

This button is visible on all characters, living or dead, and shows a list of all kills that are public knowledge (so you can’t see any secret kills a character might have). The list itself will open to the right of the character interface, and looks like this:

Now, while there aren’t many actual gameplay effects tied to this feature (save a few events) you might still feel inclined to become a murderous tyrant. If you so happen to kill more than 5 other characters, you will enter the Ledger - where the most depraved killers are listed at the top. For some reason, characters with a Reformed Pagan religion using the Bloodthirsty Gods doctrine tend to top the lists... more on that in the next Dev Diary!

I can just see a thread popping up after this goes live titled "What's the most people you've personally killed" with screenshot after screenshot by people trying to top each other's kill totals.

They should call it the Vlad the Impaler thread.

Do people killed during Blot count as well?

Better question: do people killed during grand tournaments count? Because I always seem to get about three dozen pop-ups about how so-and-so was "tragically killed," and if it counts than any "kill X number of people" achievements are going to be laughably easy...

But... You don't kill the people in grand tournaments.
They might get added to participants in the tournament, or counted as accidents that no one gets credit for, but they're not *your* kills as the host.

No more than you should get credit for disease deaths in your court.

Kills from failed medical procedures should count though. And if there isnt already an option for it, if you get appointed as court physician you should be able to deliberately botch treatment, especially on enemies and rivals, as well as their spouses and heirs, or anyone you stand to inherit from.

did you at least spot this issue with "Hunt Apostates" as default court chaplain action here finally?
And what is the issue? It is their default work, I'm certain it works as intended. Could you explain?
There are several Greek names in that list. Even the 1st one that is a Maharaja!
I suppose the title has a tendency to be shown as current.
A lot of pagan belief systems had at least some henotheist or even monotheist tendencies at some point.
Well, probably when organizing you get some hierarchy of gods. See Vladimir's reformation, again.

The thing is, the outcome of medical procedures was mostly unpredictable for physicians as well as for patients.

Nah, most are just maimed or wounded. There are some four-five deaths among the pop-ups, at most.

The reputation for the deaths should attach to the physician on the one hand, and to the tournament participant on the other.

Deliberate botches of medical treatment on rivals should be a thing. Whether it's deliberate poisoning, over bleeding, incorrect treatment or whatever, it's a great opportunity.

Just watch the op with Genghis Khan's amazing kill legacy, everyone burnt at the stake. And it's like that for every character that has nothing to proletysize currently.
Erm... I have to repeat the question: what's the issue? They all probably disclosed themselves as heretics, it does happen often after the M&M. Totally WAI.

Yeah and that is the described issue, the Court Chaplain hunting apostates by default ever since M&M, as I outlined in the original post some pages back and on other related opportunities. That it "works" doesn't mean it is a good thought through design.

Hopefully they'll build a similar log of people you had relations with (e.g. ex-spouse, lover, step parent\sibling) with consequences (e.g. Church sanctions) if a child marries their stepmother or step sibling for example.

That's gonna be a VERY long list for my characters.

23? 24? I play Nomads and, if Stable, I can get well over that just purging my dungeon while conquering massive swaths of land... on Ironman... without mods....

True in my recent nomad game I rampaged through Europe, and at one point I had 254 people in my dungeon, I sent them all to the executioner, the screams were deafening.

If there's gonna be an Achievement for killing people, it has to be at least 1000 to be challenging.

I don't think we need the full text of "Was burnt to death by Khagan Genghis Khan of Mongol Empire on [XYZ]"...if we are Genghis Khan...or we know we are viewing his kill count.

It would be much better if it simply said "Was burnt to death on [date]."

This is a feature im gonna love to see. U can make competition on yourself with what generation u gonna have the most just kills for example. Or best battle warlords. Sweet.

"King Stanislav the Merry - 15 kills. Queen Marie the Holy - 14 kills" This is great :D
Especially with Stan - nickname "the Merry" is obtained when character is gregarious and kind...
