I notice we have little icons under our name for Season Pass and/or FlashPoint. Nice! Maybe we'll see more avatar options sometime in the near future? :D
Hmm, So we do.

But why is anything other than an MOC icon required?

I like the MoC! But I'd like to fly the Taurian once and awhile, or ComStar, or the generic Pirate faction icon, etc. More of what already exists in the game getting ported over as avatars would be awesome! :D

(And yes, I know your question was rhetorical, but you got my answer anyway!)

So they basically confirmed they're going to nickle and dime us and people are rewarding them for it. Good god. Guess our years of being BT/MW fans and being given nothing has people this desperate for new content. I'm sadly disappointed in the direction BT is going. No offense meant to anyone excited for this, just I expected more to be honest.

Agree would like a bit more variety - How many Atlas skulls do you need

That depends on what one's definition of nickel and diming is, I guess. If the 30 hour estimate is accurate, that's a proper expansion pack in the old school sense of the term, and a $20 price tag does not seem inappropriate to me for something like that.

When I hear the plan is originally to do a 4th succession war campaign then a clan invasion angle, and instead we get a purchase by paradox and these mostly insignificant content additions, Sure flashpoints are great and all, but an actual full fledged campaign would have been better. So you're paying the price of the full game for a few new missions a few new mechs and maybe a biome or two, if you go for the season pass? Is that pretty much it? Sure seems it.

You heard wrong. HBS never made any comments much less anouncements that there would be a 4th sw expansion anytime soon. Only that they want to make one in the future. The same goes for the clan invasion.

I think you are underestimating the amount of content that is in these expansions.

Flashpoint has 3 mechs, 1 mission type, 1 biome, and 30+ hours of content. If we assume that each Flashpoint averages 2 hours of content then that is 15+ unique mini-stories.

All of that is just in Flashpoint, which is only $20. Right now $40 will get a total of three expansions, which I would assume are all of similar size to Flashpoint.

Assuming the other expansions are the same side as Flashpoint, we have a total of 9 new mechs, 3 new biomes, 3 new mission types, and 3 new game mechanics. Flashpoint has chained missions and mech-specific equipment (hatchet and battle computer). Urban Warfare could include e-war or artillery? We don't have specifics for the other expansions so that's really just speculation, but there are plenty of good ideas of things they could be working on.

That is substantially more than "a few new missions a few new mechs and maybe a biome or two."

You are welcome to wait a month until Flashpoint is released to better evaluate the amount of content.

Flashpoints and 2 new full dlc expansions for $40....no loot boxes subscription fees, microtransactions, ads , garbage, etc and a great deal of replayability in a great game? Yeah I'm totally at peace here...others may differ in opinion..

Its the nature of a business to sell stuff to stay in business. One could based on your perception of things call it being nickeled and dimed If you played tabletop BT. You were constantly offered new source materials, minis, etc. Sure I would have loved to see more "stuff" in the DLC but over all it still a decent offering even at $20. On sale with the season pass the pricing drops to $13 and change per DLC pack. This is actually a great price if the next two expansions have the same level of content. I would argue as well that even if the next two DLC releases aren't as robust its still a fair price for the season pass while its still on sale.

Nickel and diming us would be selling 'Mech packs with a singular base chassis along with its variants for $3-5 each. Then, having the base flashpoint system and a couple basic contracts as part of a core $10 DLC, then 2-3 separately purchasable themed mission packs like the "Criminal Mastermind" or "Planetary Assaults" each at $5 to augment the bare bones chained mission system.

While you are entitled to say the packs or season pass may be overpriced, I don't really think selling the 3 'Mechs (which introduce hatchets and Battle Comps), more "rare equipment" whatever that is, the new biome and mission type on top of the flashpoint deployments as a single package really fits in to the "Nickel and Dime" model I'd associate with games like CKII or ARMA III. Not to mention MWO, but that's a FTP game and not the same business model.

Y'know... I hadn't been paying attention to the icons on my own profile...

For all the GOG users out there, you can activate the icons for your owned games by clicking on the game in your library, then selecting "Serial Keys" from the "More" menu. Copy that serial key, then go to the "Register A Game" link at the top of the page on any of these forums. Paste it in there.

Now, why the Shadowrun series doesn't have the option to show serial keys and why there is no indication in my library that I bought the Season Pass... well, I have no idea there.

Edit: Hmm, I think you also have to go to "Owned Items" in your forum profile and click the "Sync owneditems" button.

nickel-and-dime
INFORMAL - NORTH AMERICAN
verb
gerund or present participle: nickel-and-diming
  1. harass (someone) by charging for many trivial items or services."
Flashpoint is neither trivial nor many charges.

BATTLETECH: $39.99
Flashpoint (sale): $17.99
Season Pass (includes Flashpoint, Urban Warfare, and the third expansion): $39.99

Flashpoint includes
  • Over 30 hours of content
  • Branching story-lines in every Flashpoint
  • 3 new 'Mechs (Crab, Hatchetman, Cyclops)
  • Special rewards (even LosTech)
  • New Target Acquisition mission type
  • New Tropical Beach biome
One might speculate that Urban Warfare and the third expansion contain at least that much content too.

I don't know how you do math, but I'd have to disagree that that is "pretty much it".

I'm curious how these expansions are going to work for backers that chose Humble rather than Steam or GOG.

Humble Store is selling the Season Pass, but that is just a Steam key.

@SpectralThundr not sure where you get your idea of what nickel and dime is....

pick pretty much any borderlands game....or fallout...thats nickel and dime.
or micro transactions galore in just about any MMO...thats nickel and dime.

Got my fingers crossed for infantry. After all, urban combat is the best environment for a bunch of dudes on foot to seriously threaten a mech.

And we know that trying to work them into the game is something HBS hasn't given up on.
