Damn, they've just confirmed in the twitter video is not Victoria 3. F*** this, people. My hype for the PDXcon just dropped to 0. Im no interested in no fantasy game.

Honestly we don't know that yet. Just because the CK II Game Director says it's not going to be Victoria III, it doesn't mean it isn't going to be Victoria III.

Chances are it's Victoria III. Or a EvW Cold War alt-history game.

If they say no Vicky III they most likely mean no Vicky III.

I have always thought if a sequel was ever planned that it wouldn't be called Victoria III but something else, as the title doesn't really give a full picture of what the game is about, unlike its other titles, & is very British orientated.

You just don't know how to read Paradox body language and hiroglyphs. I have spent the past 21 years (since I was conceived) learning to understand the Paradox that is Paradox. As such I can confidently say Vicky III has a chance of being announced this year of 40%. But the more often we say Vicky III, the less likely it will be that Vicky III is actually released any time soon. Because, it was said one time by a Paradox employee, that every time we say Vicky III the release date for Vicky III is being pushed back by a year.

I just had a fun idea. What if Paradox actually wrote down every time someone mentions the game that must not be named and when they actually announce it, It will have some astronomical release date like, what, 2853?

So, they have confirmed it will be a brand new grand strategy game...

Modern era?
Fantasy world?
I'd bet on these two, since they would stand out enough compared to active IPs.

However, as bizarre as it sounds, CK2 might be nearing the end of it's development. In this case it's fantasy relative is almost guaranteed. Traits, inventory, skills and dynasties - with a little refinement that's enough for 1.0 fantasy game. Or I might be simply reading into these free updates wrong.

Other titles like EUROPA Universalis and CRUSADER Kings? Neither of which has it's title representing the complete experience the game can offer.

agreed, the game titles focus on Eras mostly. EU focuses mainly on the time of the rise of european powers and the growing divide between them and the rest of the world. Stellaris on the future. CK focuses largely on the times of the crusades (crusades went 1096 to 1492, CK2 base game goes 1066 to 1453)+ some hundred years before with expansions. Hearts of Iron is the black sheep in the family. It could be a reference to the Iron Cross, a prussian/german Military Honor 1813-1945 (and symbol of the Bundeswehr to this day), which some would wear as medals or badges on or near their heart. Alternatively, it could be a reference to the idiom "having a heart of steel", which soldiers basically were required to have since the conception of warfare, to kill other humans on the battlefield, be it for country, honor or your family/comrades, to get out with an intact mind.

Other than that, @zorkman , Victoria and Victoria II happen during what is generally referred to as the "Victorian Era", just because Queen Victoria has ruled during that period of time, and she has greatly influenced the entire world, being called "the grandmother of Europe". Indeed 6 royal houses currently in power of various countries had their heads descend from her. Quoting Wikipedia: "Their living descendants include Elizabeth II; Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Harald V of Norway; Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden; Margrethe II of Denmark; and Felipe VI of Spain"

And here's the full list of her Grand-children: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand...ia_and_Prince_Albert_of_Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha 34 of which survived until they were adults. Read through the list and you will find familiar names such as King/Emperor Edward VII, Emperor(Kaiser) Wilhelm II, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna wife (and cousin) to Tsar Nicholas II, etc..

Now think about Victoria III not being an appropriate name for a game in the era 1830-1930 again.

A sequel with a name Victoria III has more sense in commercial terms than a new IP on the same period,if they make Vicky 3,a number of persons will buy Vicky 2 with all dlcs since the development will probably be stopped. So it has more sense in commercial terms that called the game Victoria III.But it's just my opinion.

you didn't understand what I was saying. I did not mean a new IP. I meant a sequel to Victoria II. I was just explaining to the guy @zorkman why a sequel to Victoria II should be called Victoria III.

As it is a new ip and not going to be a small scale game like Sengoku it is most likely a fantasy game, especially since Stellaris is their most successful game ever. Likely it is going to be closest to CK2 to apply well to fantasy roleplayers while keeping the strategic elements of a grand strategy game.

A CK2 style fantasy game would be incredible. Another Fall from Heaven or Endless Legend sort of game would suck. I like those games but I've played them before.

This must give Paradox some, well...ideas about target audience preferrences

It would surpass CK2 in terms of evil RP, that's for sure.
Slavery and genocide - A-grade Not Ok.
Underpaid labor and purification? - Sure thing, pal. Why are these pointy-eared people wearing metal collars, you say? It's, ugh, their fashion, a weird fictionary species, you see. We are Pegi12 here.

My guess is a fantasy game. Kind of a modern master of magic.
It could actually borrow much from CK2.
I can do anything for that game, I really want a fantasy based Role Playing GSG.
But by that PDXCON video it is pretty much safe to assume they will announce the sequel of Vicky 2.
No one with a rational mind would say that they are not going to announce the product most core fans want so casually if they really are not going to announce that.
Most probably that the game won't be called Vicky 3.
However fantasy game will leave many core fans those who prefer historical games only dissatisfied but the new fans they will get is completely worth it.Same was true for Stellaris.

While I would agree that a fantasy-themed grand strategy game is the most likely, a grand strategy game set in the Battletech universe would be another intriguing possibility. HBS's Kiva already said before the release of Battletech that when she found out they'd be working with Paradox, her first thought was developing a CK2/EU4-style grand strategy game based in the Inner Sphere. It would make for an interesting Paradox mash-up of both feudal-style politics and a sci-fi setting. Not really sure about the licencing issues though.

Last year they also said they won't announce Vicky 3 in a similiar video.

Here is the video from last year, where they said they won't announce Vicky 3 :

Yes. Last year they released a video saying it wasn't Vic 3 which probably means we should take them at their word for it. Perhaps you can say the offhand / throwaway comment in the background of this video seems different but then on Paradox Interactive Twitter they wrote, "We've told you what it isn't, but what could it be?" so doesn't sound like this is going to be a big gotcha! for those waiting for Vic 3. Which, idk, is Paradox working on it? Unless they think "is it Vic 3?" has become a joke its clear lots of the classic paradox customer base are really wanting this.

ALSO, this just sounds crazy to me but on some other forum a few people (clearly not Paradox super-aficionados) were speculating that it may be CK3 ! That's just crazy talking right? I mean they're just now releasing a new patch for CK2.
