agreed, the game titles focus on Eras mostly. EU focuses mainly on the time of the rise of european powers and the growing divide between them and the rest of the world. Stellaris on the future. CK focuses largely on the times of the crusades (crusades went 1096 to 1492, CK2 base game goes 1066 to 1453)+ some hundred years before with expansions. Hearts of Iron is the black sheep in the family. It could be a reference to the Iron Cross, a prussian/german Military Honor 1813-1945 (and symbol of the Bundeswehr to this day), which some would wear as medals or badges on or near their heart. Alternatively, it could be a reference to the idiom "having a heart of steel", which soldiers basically were required to have since the conception of warfare, to kill other humans on the battlefield, be it for country, honor or your family/comrades, to get out with an intact mind.
Other than that,
@zorkman , Victoria and Victoria II happen during what is generally referred to as the "Victorian Era", just because Queen Victoria has ruled during that period of time, and she has greatly influenced the entire world, being called "the grandmother of Europe". Indeed 6 royal houses currently in power of various countries had their heads descend from her. Quoting Wikipedia: "Their living descendants include
Elizabeth II;
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh;
Harald V of Norway;
Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden;
Margrethe II of Denmark; and
Felipe VI of Spain"
And here's the full list of her Grand-children:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand...ia_and_Prince_Albert_of_Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha 34 of which survived until they were adults. Read through the list and you will find familiar names such as King/Emperor Edward VII, Emperor(Kaiser) Wilhelm II, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna wife (and cousin) to Tsar Nicholas II, etc..
Now think about Victoria III not being an appropriate name for a game in the era 1830-1930 again.
