I installed prison architect from the epic games launcher because it was free. upon attempting to launch, I got an error. I looked into other threads and nothing worked, so is there something special I have to do for the epic games version?

The game is crashing in your nVidia driver:
Windows Error Reporting:
+++ WER0 +++:
Depósito con errores 1808550197792400841, tipo 4
Nombre de evento: APPCRASH
Respuesta: No disponible
Identificador de archivo .cab: 0

Firma del problema:
P1: Prison Architect64.exe
P2: 0.0.0.0
P3: 61afb31f
P4: nvoglv64.dll
Please try this:

- uninstall that driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install it again by fresh download
- reboot again

Good luck with that!

No luck, sadly.
Thank you tho, I'll just uninstall the game and forget about it.

No obvious cause of this issue in there. Can I get a dxdiag.txt too please?

And what antivirus app do you use? Add Prison Architect64.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
I just use windows defender. Sorry if I sent this twice.

Again, no obvious cause of this in there. But you did Add Prison Architect64.exe to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list, is that right?

As a shot in the dark, please go here:
And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

And finally, pelase try this Windows repair tool:

Good luck!

If so, I really have nothing else I can look into, we have no clues anywhere as to even the general nature of the problem, what area of Windows or other software on this machine is preventing our game from starting. If you bought the game from Epic please seek a refund from them.

Meantime please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

When I run the Prison Architect64.exe file it says that I dont have the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll file installed. More specifically, this message pops up: "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." When I've reinstalled the game through epic a multitude of times.

That will install the missing MS DLL.

I too have a problem with launching the game and none of the solutions from above work, albeit I have a theory why the problem occurs.
I wonder if the problem could be caused by non-english alphabet letters' presence in user folder's name - for example, my user folder is called "Michał" and I know the letter 'ł' was the cause for a lot of problems in other games - could it be the case this time, too? Sadly, I can't seem to change the folder's name without formatting the whole PC, so I'm just sharing my thoughts here.

To test that you can make a new Windows user on that machine and log into Windows with that. Let us know!

Just tested it - created a new user "test" and installed the game there and tried to launch it - it succeeded! Seems that really the foreign character was the problem. However, strangely, even though the game is supposedly installed in the test user profile, I still can't launch it from the main user profile, so some strange shenanigans seem to still happen. At least I can finally play the game :D

I have the same problem, I downloaded all updates to the drivers. When I start the game with PrisonArchitect.exe, nothing happens, the same is when I start from the lancher

No obvious cause of that problem in there. Has this game ever worked on this machine or never? Does Safe Mode work?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Ah, I see the Epic edition doesn't have Safe Mode - that's unfortunate.

I used to play prison architect on this computer
When was that, some previous version?

Unfortunately there are no clues in those files what's causing this to you. But that debug log file looks wrong, I think you tried the game from PrisonArchitect64.exe directly, which can never work. Run it from Epic one more time and attach here the new log file, thanks.

Also Try installing the latest Visual C++
And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

Then this Windows repair tool:

I downloaded jus VC_redist After verifying the files, write:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir \ Logs \ CBS \ CBS.log. For example C: \ Windows \ Logs \ CBS \ CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the / OFFLOGFILE flag.

There's no mention of the game or launcher in there, unfortunately.

when I wanted to run prison architect with epic games under the name of the game I saw the inscription works, adds ss with the task manager and the file you asked for

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean here please? The game runs or does not run when you try to start it like that?

Because that log file again looks like the game was started from PrisonArchitect64.exe directly !
