Lithuania isn't subject to Confederate Partition anymore, which is an improvement. It's still a shame that the realm is divided, but that can be dealt with eventually.

That Mongol invasion looked like a threat. Capturing their leader must've been a stroke of luck. Speaking of Mongols, that collapse of the Ilkhanate looked very messy. I wonder if anyone will end up claiming the legacy of the Eastern Roman Empire?

Well I didn't mean border gore-wise, but more in how the colors of the map seem more muted, and the font is changed. Are you using a graphical mod?

Medieval Lithuanian History – HIST1602 – Lecture Notes - Professor: Jonas Matas –1295 AD – 1311 AD - Class 16 – The Grand Duchy Established

  • In 1295 King Sviatoslav declares war against the Prince Vasiliy of Estoniya for the lands considered legally part of Lithuania. Despite tension between the Lutuveras and the king, he quickly joins in the war.
1700336888031.png

  • Lithuania wins the first victory of the war at the Battle of Duobele.
1700336894849.png

  • Despite the successes in the war, King Sviatoslav dies in March of 1297. Based on Polish partition sucession law his lands were split among his heirs.
  • The Kingdom of Poland was inherited by his son Sviatoslav II Andreievich, and Lithuania passes to his grandson also named Sviatoslav.
1700336899875.png

1700336904497.png

  • Due to the King Sviatoslav of Lithuania’s young age, Duke Dravenis was made the regent of the realm. This marked a significant shift in the region as the Suvalkija family once again gained defacto control of the region.
1700336910509.png

  • The third Kingdom of Bialorus was also created and given to King Stanislaw Andreievich.
1700336918003.png

  • The Lithuanian army returns from the successful campaign in Estonia, although the land is legally awarded to the King of Litwa, it is clear that the Lithuanians hold the true power in the kingdom.
1700336925802.png

  • The Kingdom of Greece continues to expand in the south by absorbing Bulgaria and Serbia filling the void left from the fall of the Byzantines.
1700336931822.png

  • Lutuveras dies in 1299 and his lands are split among his children. Of his heirs, the devious webweaver, Dausprungas of Siauliai begins to take a significant role in the fate of the realm.
1700336937505.png

  • By 1299 the a faction of Lithuanian nobles led by Duke Dravenis of Lithuania demanded that the King Sviatoslav abdicate in favor of Gintare Suvalkija, Countess of Klaipeda. Dravenis was convinced he could control Gintare as a puppet. Gintare was the granddaughter of Queen Danuta and thus had a claim to both Poland and Lithuania.
1700336943933.png

  • When Sviatoslav refuses Dravenis quickly sieges his capital and apprehends the King and forces him to concede. Sviatoslav urges his cousin in Poland to intervene, however Sviatoslav of Poland does not want a full military engagement against the Lithuanians due to fear of an uprising against his crown. Thus, Dravenis and Sviatoslav come to a compromise. Gintare is not made Queen, but rather the Grand Duchess. This title is nominally tied to the Kingdom of Poland but in reality the Lithuanians have de facto control.
1700336948731.png

  • Gintare’s ascension to the throne gives Dausprungas unprecedented access to the court. She is married to Butavas, Dausprungas’s brother and is childhood friend of Dausprungas herself.
1700336955434.png

  • Leveraging his connections with the Grand Duchess, he arranges the marriage of Gintautas the youngest of Gintare with Dausprungas’s youngest daughter Giedre.
1700336959939.png

  • Dausprungas uses his new alliances to declare war against the neighboring realm of Estoniya.
1700336966512.png

  • Selpils is immediately sieged.
1700336972340.png

  • To complicate matters Queen Boleslava of Novgorod joins Estoniya as a defender. Both Boleslava and Yelisey belonged to the Rurikid dynasty, and ruled splinter states of the now defunct Kingdom of Kiyev. They aspired to restablish Rurikid dominance in Russia and the Baltic.
1700336976934.png

  • With reinforcements from Novgorod, the Lithuanians are easily repelled and Dausprungas is forced to surrender.
1700336981194.png

  • The Pope galvanizes Christian Europe by officially calling another Crusade for Zaporizhia. The Pope and many European leaders hope this is will serve as the final blow that shatters the remnants of the Mongolian Empire.
1700336988201.png

  • Eager to erase his humiliating defeat against the Estonians, Dausprungas along with many Lithuanian Catholics joins the crusade. He arrives in Zaporizhia in 1308, personally leading his retinue.
1700336992635.png

  • Unfortunately, while the majority of the Lithuanian forces are fighting in the crusade, the newly crowned King of Poland seeks to annex some border provinces with Lithuania, directly defying the previous accords with Grand Duchess Gintare.
1700336999811.png

  • The war is short and Grand Duchess Gintare is forced to cede Jacwiez to King Bartosz.
1700337004602.png

  • Fortunately for the Lithuanians their contributions to the crusade pays off. However, the Pope choses to award the newly seized lands to King Adalbert Vartmberka, a French noble related the minor nobility in Poland and Swabia. Thus, the crusader realm of Zaporizhia is revived.
1700337010667.png

  • The destabilization of the Altin Ord has far reaching consequences and provides the opportunity for many Ruthenian subjects to declare independence, drastically changing the political landscape of eastern Europe.

At least Lithuania is (basically) independent again? How long will Poland respect that arrangement?

The part about Lithuania being a Grand Duchy was just RP, right? It wasn't based on anything in the game?

I wonder who will unite Russia... or if the various realms will attack other parts of Eastern Europe instead.

Yeah the grand duchy is the name what the title changed to if a Lithuanian, so interpreting it that way made sense with the story.

Lithuania was in a bad position, but at least they managed to defeat Pruthenia... the Grand Duchy is going to need to figure out how to defeat Estonia and Poland, though. Will we have revenge wars?

Given that Arunas is content, the ruling dynasty of Lithuania might not have much to fear from him. I doubt his successors will be so unambitious, though. Maybe there will be another civil war?

It's nice to see a Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. I wonder how long it will last...

Lithuania went through a roller coaster in this chapter, didn't they? They defeated Estonia but lost their independence and failed to regain it. At least they still have some autonomy. Is any other landholder in Belarus supporting Arunas's Rebellion?

This might be the first time I've seen a kingdom of Belarus in a CK game.

Yes Belarus came out of nowhere bahaha. I was not expecting it.
