Three hours later (or so) he attacks again.

What's this guy's problem?
I take it rhe terraformer will die before we can relieve it, or how manybhitpoints does it have?

Did rhe GTO arrive at Nessus in time?
At least the colony can't be ruined by ruining the life support.

The ship moves at 7 Mm/s. That's bad, right, as that'd signal way higher tech?

Forgot to comment on this before.
Why os there a survey ship in ax micro? - AX Microscopii was one of the last systems to be completely surveyed. Hundreds of asteroids, far out from the sun.

Don't financial centers cost upkeep? If so wouldn't it then be detrimental to build them in colonies? - No. They generate money.

Is the tech that increases the radius we can mine recurrent? I.e. can we continue it forever in principle? - Not sure if it continues forever.

Do we know it's there? - Yes.
Can we be lucky and it has lots of minerals? - Yes. But exploiting minerals that far away is problematic.

Those don't take too much tonnage? - That's where the "size-1" comes in. A Terraformer has over 2,000 hull squares. I devoted ONE of those hull squares to a civilian sensor. Besides, those remarks I made about optimizing tonnage by specialization were spoken in the context of MILITARY ships.
There's no sensors in leytens? - Of course there are. But size-1 civilian sensors are extremely weak. That's why they are classed as a CIVILIAN component instead of military. It wouldn't reach 1% of the way toward the jump point.
I take it rhe terraformer will die before we can relieve it, or how manybhitpoints does it have? - It will die, yes. The other three terraforners in orbit around the same planet are also doomed.

Did rhe GTO arrive at Nessus in time? - Yes, but he outranges us by about four times. The fleet is on the way to kill him with missiles. If we can.
At least the colony can't be ruined by ruining the life support. - Nessus can't, correct. Nike can.

The ship moves at 7 Mm/s. That's bad, right, as that'd signal way higher tech? - Correct. If there's a bunch of these guys, we're dead.

Why aren't we spamming out financial centres, then, if there's no drawback to having then? - Of course there are no drawbacks to HAVING them. There are drawbacks to BUILDING them. It uses minerals and more important it ties up our factories, so that we can't build OTHER things. We have already been building plenty of Financial Centers. We've built 600 of them since game start. But we've also built auto-mines, mass driver catapults, ground forces construction centers, research labs, deep space tracking stations...

Actually... this jerk doesn't outrange us by as much as I first thought.

He's firing at nearly 220,000 km. That's outside our extreme maximum range (for a Spinal Mount) but only by 15% or so. And his accuracy at that range is crap ("no hits") just like ours would be. We could shoot at him (and miss) at about 190,000 km.

He is ahead of us in tech, but not as far ahead as the Galapagonians are.

Time to send in the fleet, also could you retire my character and have my son/daughter Blaaat the 2nd be a fighter pilot? Time to shoot down some Xenos.

Also what's planet X like I've seen Super Jovian and normal gas giant (had to restart my first game because of the decimal/number grouping symbol bug)

So... who wants a warship? We have lots.

Iche Bins is fleet commander and the Captain of a Constellation-class Carrier
Blaaat is a Fighter pilot on that Carrier.
The carrier also needs an Executive Officer (running Flight Control)... and a name. Named after a constellation, please (like Hercules or Orion).

Who else wants some? We have PD vessels, Gunship escorts, AWACS Battle Management Vessels...

The enemy ship is firing its weapon (a Spinal Laser? A Particle Beam?) once every fifteen seconds.

It's going to take eight and a half days for our fleet starting from Earth to reach the Sol => Alpha Centauri jump point.

Then several more days for it to reach Nessus.

Sounds like we're going to take some losses in Alpha Centauri before our fleet arrives.

Maybe he will get careless and step into Nessus' GTO range?

The "water carrier" that now carries fighters could be

Finally killed that Gaia class Orbital Terraforming Platform. It took eight shots. There are three more of them in the same orbit.

I have renamed our enemies "the Jerx", and re-classed their ship as Jerkmobile 001.

Our new colony Nike in the moon system of the third planet is being attacked.

Our main colony in the Alpha Centauri system is Nessus, the next planet out and currently in opposition to Nike - ie: on the opposite side of the sun. Nessus is the only defended spot in the Alpha Centauri system, and the only place in our entire Empire, other than Earth itself, that has STO defense.

Nessus has two quad-barrelled Gauss PD turrets, four quad-barrelled Laser PD and three quad-barrelled anti-ship Laser turrets. Plus a Garrison Brigade.

Our fleet is coming, but it's about two and a half weeks away.

If there's only this one ship, I'm pretty confident. If there's a dozen of them... we're done for.

Three terraformers down.

Oh... bugger.

sb-242.jpg

... there are indeed more of them.

sb-243.jpg

The new ship's active sensor emissions are GPS 2176, so he got spotted while still somewhat outside that dashed white-line circle, centered on Nessus, which marks the DSTS sensitivity to a GPS 1000 target.

Where the heck are these Jerx coming from? There isn't any jump point out in that direction... unless it's one of those hidden, one-sided jump points.

Or perhaps an Aether Rift?

The second ship turns off its active sensor, and disappears from our scopes.

The first ship finishes off the last (the fourth) of the Terraformers...

sb-244.jpg

... sits quietly in orbit for a dozen hours, and then starts heading for Nessus!

sb-245.jpg

Yes, please come over here... we've GOT something for you!

And another one!

Yeah, it's really starting to look like we're all dead. We only have one and a half loads of Fighters built, and only two sets of GTO.

We aren't READY to be invaded.

The enemy continues to close on Nessus. Our civilian Transports and Freighters are fleeing, but he seems to be ignoring them in favor of the big stack of terraformers in orbit around Nessus.

The closest ship continues to close on Nessus, while the other military ship (the Lucan 001) and the civilian ship (the Typhos 001) move toward Nike (or possibly toward Nessus).

The enemy ships are clearly coming in along a bearing of abour 120 degrees. There is no known planet or jump point in that direction.
