Heh-Heh... That Super-Tug has arrived, dragging the Salvager along behind it. Got here a lot quicker that way. A scandalous waste of Fuel, of course.

We clearly need more and even better glass cannons!
Yeah, those Sabres are FAR more effective than I thought they would be... at least, against an opponent who has no Fighters or Missiles.

We need more and better Sabres. Many more, and much better.

If we had enough of them that we could regard them as attrition units, like Fighters...

Researching the next Engine tech level now. Already finished the theory (Power Plant) part.

Still not sure whether the Pirates are really gone from Tau Ceti, or just being super-sneaky.

I sent a Tug right through the area where the last of the Jerx had been hanging around, and saw nothing. But a Tug has crap for sensors anyway.

I'm going to build a bunch of Deep Space Tracking Stations, and we'll place a few listening posts in the system.

So are you people happy with the level of detail that I'm reporting?

Would you prefer that I skip the actual maneuvering and fighting and just report the results instead?

Ishmael's Naval Base is totally stacked...

sb-512.jpg

The base's own defensive satellites plus the big herd of FACs based there takes us right up to the Tonnage limit... 72,527 used out of 75,000.

I've got the visiting Fleet squadron parked in orbit around an outer moon, so they don't wreck the base's maintenance limit.

The "zero maintenance supplies available" is not a concern. The orbital modules include a Device class Maintenance workshop, with 50,000 supplies.

These guys are just beginning to annoy me...

That's an Armageddon (obviously, from the unique Thermal signature. Jerkmobiles and Achernars are M222).

Three hundred and twenty-six million km from Ishmael. I'll just keep an eye on them. It would be nice if they TRIED an invasion...

EDIT:

... and another Typhos! That's the Slaver ship. Perhaps they really ARE intending a direct assault on Ishmael.

*sigh*

Again our Colony Ship turns around and leaves without attempting to drop off its colonists. They are seeing a lot of the Galaxy for the price of their ticket. Our Salvager also flees toward the protection of the Ishmael Naval Base.

The Armageddon disappears off our sensors as it heads to rendezvous with the approaching Typhos.

The Armageddon appears to be trying to catch the slow Salvager before it manages to reach comparative safety under the guns of the Ishmael Naval Base.

I think I can safely say that by the time the Armageddon has caught up to our Salvager, he will have other issues to deal with.

A Jerkmobile was just detected when it turned on its active sensor. It is in formation with the Armageddon, which probably means a major assault.

My prediction is six vessels in the Armageddon's formation, four more in the Typhos formation, plus at least one more multi-ship group, not yet detected.

If it comes to another Fighter strike... how should I divide up the 270 missiles from out alpha-strike?

All 270 against the Armageddon? 135-135 against the two biggest targets? 90-90-90?

The Armageddon force is now within our Fighter range from Ishmael (so... 70 Fighters available; 35 from the Base itself and 35 from a visiting Fleet Carrier).

We're not going to fight them HERE, though.

We'll use the same tactic as last time: we allow them to penetrate deep into our defensive zone before we ambush them. That way if they break and run, they'll need to flee for tens of millions of km before they can escape, with our Sabres nipping at their heels all the way.

Seven ships in the Armageddon task force.

sb-515.jpg

I had guessed six. Crucify me.

Make that twelve ships...

sb-516.jpg

... plus an estimated four in the Typhos formation.

That's sixteen.

Aaaand... then they turn around and run away.

sb-517.jpg

Look... either fight or go away. Pick one.

Interesting...

The Typhos has stopped directly on top of a wrecked Achernar (from an earlier stage of the battle) and appears to be scrounging it for minerals.

Captain Blaaat sounds General Quarters... let's see if we can knock this Typhos off while the Armageddon is away.

I wonder if the AI wants to attack but then sees the fleet orbiting Ishmael and decides to flee. But when it reaches the rift it wants to attack again (as it no longer sees the fleet) and is stuck in this loop. :p

I was thinking something quite similar.

Half-way there. No sign of that Armageddon task force. Will we really be able to bushwhack these guys?
