Trying to math the maths here ... I may be misunderstanding something ...
  • The wind turbines produce up to 5 MW assuming you place them appropriately, while the small coal power plant initially produces 20 MW--so you have to place four wind turbines in order to equal what you get from a single coal power plant
  • The wind turbines initially cost 25,000 ea while the small coal power plant costs 100,000.
As I read this, therefore, initial costs are exactly the same.

Regarding upkeep ...
  • Wind turbines cost 2,500 EA per month in upkeep, while the small coal power plant costs 3,750-42,500.
  • I never place the coal power plant, so I don't know what causes that cost to be variable, but I assume it has something to do with import costs of coal, whether you place any additional turbines or other modules, wages for employees, and where you set your energy budget.
Theoretically, the wind turbines start out with an upkeep 2-2/3ds more than the small coal power plant--although over time, their upkeep costs remain static while the coal plant will likely increase.

initialupkeepenergy produced
wind turbine25,000 * 4 = 100,0002,500 * 4 = 10,0005 MW * 4 = 20 MW
small coal power plant100,0003,750-42,500 (variable)20 MW
You're not factoring in the wage cost. Building a small coal plant and letting it hire all 37 employees gives me a wage cost of $66,300 which is in addition to the $45,000 maintenance cost, for a total of $111,300 per month. I don't know how to get coal expenditures under the max $40,000 because even with a coal mine literally next door exporting tons of coal outside the city, my plant still seems to pay max costs.

In the meantime, a fully upgraded wind turbine costs $12,500 per month and generates between 8 - 9 MW of power during the day, or around 7.5 MW at night if placed in an optimal wind location.

The wind turbine costs $25,000 to build and all three upgrades are an additional $50,000, so if you build three fully upgraded turbines (battery optional but including it anyway), you pay more upfront: $225K vs $100K (the small coal plant has no upgrades), but you save $73,800 in monthly costs so it's a better deal after just two months and get more power out of it. Plus wind turbines don't need road access. It might be even cheaper with four un-upgraded wind turbines, but that takes more space and your max wind availability is variable.

Well, the office fix seems to have worked. Even just running the simulation for 6 hours, I've noticed my offices are already up to 12 and counting employees, and there was also a spike in industrial hiring. My unemployment rate dropped 10% with literally zero input from me, just letting the simulation play out and workplaces rebalance, and it will likely continue to do so for a while.

Please, please, please consider allowing photo mode settings to be carried over into gameplay. It makes such a big difference in the immersion of the game. I know the day/night cycle is the alternative, but for those with difficulty seeing, night mode is not an option for playing.

Gettings some crash to desktop, but I have over 70 mods installed, so I'm not surprised.
Just quoting myself from like a day ago, but a bunch of mods have been updated and no more crash to desktop.

Amazing modding community letting me play an amazing update in the style I'm accustomed to. The auto-updating of mods upon startup is also amazing.

Thank you so much. This kind of patches is what it takes to make this game fun again.

Missing content is and stays a major issue besides the game mechanic bugs that I am sure you will fix step by step.

I tried Economy 2.0 during the last week and felt it is finally becoming a playable and enjoyable game. I really didn’t like the tile upkeep change, but I love the fact you can now simply unlock all the map as I never liked the tile unlocking concept in general.

Seeing now that you finally start to add more assets gives me a very positive feeling.

What’s missing now to make me finally come back is:

- Fix the sound system so that I can finally hear anything from my city
- Animated details (Fire fighters, visitors in stadiums etc)
- More building options for rural areas (hoping for asset mods)
- Something like park life
- Good options to make beautiful waterfronts

Especially the waterfronts bother me a lot. I don’t know any city where these are not beautiful places with lots of activity. I’m not talking about Harbor areas. From promenades to canals or even beaches. Waterfronts are a main attraction and usually for good reasons the most expensive housing area. And Water is the place for sports, marinas, transportation, tourism. The first game covered it very little and it got better with some mods. But never really good in the way I wished it. But the second game doesn’t cover it at all.

Seeing the failure of the waterfront DLC, I hope that a lot more is planned in that regard. Hoping for bridges and ports. But at least the title reminds me mostly on more harbor options.
I would like new city animations like police chasing criminals, police pursuits with cars and police helicopters chasing suspects. Protesters, parades, riots where you see cims flipping cars and throwing molotov cocktails at buildings, high crime areas would be filled with graffiti and vandalized store fronts. Fishing boats, parasailers, and jet skis in the water. Just things that make the city come to life. the stuff that Sim City had for animations. People playing basketball and tennis, to let you know the parks are actually being used by cims instead of just homeless hanging out there.

@co_avanya quick question -- I know you are on summer lock while also investigating the various bugs. I was reading in another thread about the effect of the homelessness bug on residential demand ... I'm wondering to what extent is the relentless increase in criminals also connected to homelessness? This is not to say that unhoused persons are necessarily criminals--but in the context of the game ... Is it possible that some of those homeless people who haven't left the city also account for the criminals who somehow haven't yet been taken to jail or prison? I do think there is a mechanical flaw there as well, with a huge number of criminals arrested not in jail and those convicted not in prison.

Enjoy your summer break!

This update is SO GOOD. Exactly what I needed to keep playing my city, changed all the roundabouts for the new ones, hope they add a fountain variation in the future. The new buildings and the tree placement tool upgrade are great too.

Also, the new terrain tool can be used to adjust growables terrain area to fill gaps between buildings and roads ❤️

Can't wait to see more updates like this, feels the game is going in the right direction

I noticed that too. I was surprised about the low traffic for a large city. In fact, the traffic seems to temporarily increase when I build a new neighborhood (people coming into my city?) and got some traffic issues, that fix themselves.

However, my main traffic issue comes from the pedestrian crossing the streets. Around bus stops and subway stations, it drains a lot of cims and there's always someone crossing... Having the ability to create several entrances for subway stations would be nice (for example, one entrance at each side of the street).

Having the same issue on some crossroads, I suggested this:

Fully agree. And all this does not even have to be simulated in a way I can follow someone. Simple visuals would already be enough for me.

Agree. I like the day/night cycle actually. But with my eyes it’s impossible to play when it’s in game night. Wish there was at least an option to make nights a bit brighter. I mean it’s pitch black. Just adjust gamma or so would be good already.

or even a mouse pointer flashlight or something, that allow you to define the width and brightness with a slider?

wild how these changes, are exactly what everyone wants and yet they're no fanfaire, while empty statements got published wide. Details like this and the new buildings could bring players back to the game and turn the narrative if only PDX would shout them from the rooftops not hide them in the patchnotes.

Proves the point, actions speak louder than words

There was far to many promises with nothing to show leading to anger (for me at least). This however was not promised and delivered unexpectedly AND it was exactly on point.

I truly hope they plan on releasing more "detailers patches" to include more widely used mods as base game functions. In the long run this makes life much easier for those that just wants more assets and it shouldn't be affected by game updates. Console players could also benefit with a more robust experience (if and when)
