116 Virginis is empty. They won't find us immediately, I'd suggest blockading the jump point leading into that from 107 Piscium as soon as possible.

Cowardice! We should send the fleet to ride out and meet them!

Isn't that exactly what I'm suggesting? I'm just picking a good spot ..

I'd like to find out if they're hostile before we start blasting away at them.

We should build a Diplomatic Vessel!

We don't have one already?
Well, yes, we should. Maybe send the spies too.
What do we know about their system? Are we going to try and scout a bit?

I suggest setting up our defense in 107 Piscium.

sc-1934.jpg

1) It's on the jump-gate network, so we can use Freighters, Tugs, Tankers etc without worrying about getting them in and out.
2) No civilian population or civvie mines.
3) It has a solid body with normal gravity and Colony Cost 3 on which we can set up a Naval base. A solid body is required for placing STO.

The Alien system was that first one in ring 6 that I was exploring to make Randakar happy.

Its catalogue number is 54 Piscium, and the Aliens received that name. And this picture:

What should we call their star system? Their planet? Should we keep the picture?

I'm going to rename the 107 Piscium star system to something less dry. I have already rather optimistically renamed the Naval base planet to Harmony.

We used to. The last aliens we tried to talk to blew it up.

Spies too, good thought.

Sounds perfect. Could not be better for a buffer system.

I like the picture.

Dunno about the name though, we know very little about them. For a second I thought we could call them the hippies just to give Wagonlitz something to rave against but that picture isn't very hippy like.

What were those aliens called from that book the Radiant story was in? The berserkers?

Lovely.

Well, time to update that design. Maybe give it Elint modules too, have it double as a spy ship like any good embassy should.

Is it me or do some of those systems look teraformed? Exactly 1.70 colony cost on two different bodies is a bit too coincidental.

Thinking about this a bit more… are they fast enough to expose problems with the slow bus two stage missiles?

They are nearly as fast as our missile bus, yes.

Hopefuly they can't out-range our gunnery as well.

Going by the picture, they have 2 legs, 4 arms with one hand per arm and 4 digits on each hand, and what looks like exposed brains. Pasta-mon for the beings? :p Pastamon Planet for their planet? :D

I suddenly find myself wondering if we can scrap the bus, keep the second stage, and fit them with a faster bus.

Probably not..

Looking at that planet list again, only the 2nd planet even has an atmosphere so no, not terraforming.

Coincidence.

But that planet is definitely worth looking into.

No, spoilers in Sol at game start was never possible. But I have had a game end to Invaders attacking Sol, and another one where Swarm did the same. Lots of players have had NPR invade Sol too. The threat is real but of course depending on game settings. It's more forgiving nowadays.
As in they invaded early game?
Or people just in didn't build up enough?
Whoops!

Look at the strength of the RADAR signature, and at the speed of the ship.

These look like late-game opponents. Invaders?

This should make Randakar very happy!
Bugger.
How would there even be invaders yet?

That's gonna be an issue, right?
We'll need to research better missiles, and fast.

As for Invaders - with what I know about those - is that this probably isn't them. Swarm, possibly, but more likely an NPR

Both have happened but yeah it used to be possible to meet spoilers and NPRs very early, as in 1 jump from Sol. That was unlikely but possible. Steve increased the threshold for them with the switch to C# and now in 2.5 version players can define the triggers themselves, to fine tune the challenge and experience.
