All three of them called Mayenne 001?

How does that work, exactly?

My guess would be that all three were spawned by script, at three different times (or places).

Units spawned by a single script will have sequential numbers.

Again I was trying to zig-zag out of his path.

He just flipped on his sensor again. Not sure if he spotted me this time.

The trail leading away from me is not indicative of his intent, since he sensor was off until just now.

EDIT: Twenty minutes later: still headed away from me. Awesome. Stealth FTW!

Not sure what you mean. How could we possibly know at game start which direction the NPR would be found in?
You said, when we explored, that you wanted to explore outwards from black hole to gave it in between us and npr.
Implying that the npr would be in whichever direction we explored.
If we're lucky, this is a single-system just-generated NPR, not the original one. Even if possibly more advanced in the engines department.
I thought you wanted us to meet the NPR.

Oooop. They seem to be developing an interest in me.

He's buggered off again.

I'm sneaking around to approach the jump point from the far side.

I want us to meet new exciting things. The original NPR qualifies. This however also does.

Right. So potentially spoilers, but no ***** so .. are these an incarnation of the swarm? Those can be pretty fast...

We made it to the jump point, and passed into the 116 Virginis star system.

Nobody was lurking near the jump point.

We placed a probe near the jump point to Mechanus, and we're retreating through the next jump to the Flamsteed star system (site of the future Harmony naval base) to drop another probe there.

Honestly not sure whether he failed to spot me, or whether he saw me and ignored me. He never closed in beyond about 100-120 m-km.

We're stealthed down to 600 tons. Our thermal signature is our main weakness on these Geo-scouts.

Well, good news there. With some luck they won't find the jump point any time soon either.

116 Virginis needs a new name, methinks. The Neutral Zone ?

Sounds good. Should we finish checking it for jump points? We entered the first jump point we located.

Wouldn't they have scouted all JPs if rhey are npr?
Assuming it's not a hidden one.

BTW, for generated NORs, can they then also only come from 40 lyr

Yes?

Might as well, we're fortifying our side anyway, so might as well do the exploring on the other side of our new fortress.

I was thinking that... in addition to a strongly-defended Naval base on Harmony in the Flamsteed star system... we could also build an armed DSP fortress right on top of the jump point.

Surrounded by a minefield.

That would require researching more modern fortress designs, since ours are at least 50 years old.

That sounds like an extremely good idea, and something I had been considering too.
We can make mines?
How do those work?

The Honor Harrington series has taught me this is a good idea.

I like this idea. A lot.
Fill it up with dwarves and you have Dwarf Fortress Aurora!
