That sounds like an extremely good idea, and something I had been considering too.
We can make mines?
How do those work?
Two-stage missiles with no engine. Set it to deploy the warheads on enemy proximity.

No engine, so it can't run out of fuel and get removed from the map.

Just shove them out the airlock one at a time.

The Honor Harrington series has taught me this is a good idea.
What's that series? An Aurora AAR?

Won'øt they detonate on us?

Actually, it looks like mines were broken (non-functional) in 2021.

Not sure if they're fixed yet. We'll see.

Our shipyard will be re-tooled for Diplomat II class contact ships in less than three months.

What does this design look like?

So far so good. We know where they are, they don't seem to know where we are.

They may be faster but we have time to gather intelligence and prepare.

Do you know how exactly they were broken? Because if it's in a way that's easy to test, we should test it.

No clear idea, no.

... but we can still set up some tests.

We can even deploy a minefield and then just hope that it works.

We try things. Sometimes they work.

Ten layers of armor. The biggest shield that we can produce. Three each of Particle Lance, Quad 30cm turret, Quad 20cm DP Turret, Quad Gauss Cannon Turret.

That's 39 guns. Each tier (but not each turret) has a seperate DP Fire control. Several years worth of repair parts.

Comments on the three types of jump point defense bases?

The Fighter base can of course be loaded with FACs instead. Or even boarding shuttles.

Bear in mind the vulnerability of Sabres to missile fire, though.

They have ZERO defense against it. Fighters at least are ten times smaller and twice as fast.

I hate the idea of reducing the number of missiles on a Fighter from three to two - and especially so if we are already reducing the number of warheads per missile by 50% - but I have to point out that our current Fighters (X-Wing VI) are less than 10,000 kps faster than those alien ships we saw... and there's no guarantee that those are the fastest ships that we'll meet!

Do we need faster Fighters?

Dropping one missile out of three will speed them up to the point of being 15,000 kps faster than our potential opponents, and will also allow us to double the strike range (from 175 m-km radius to 350 m-km radius), to increase the number of strike craft in a squadron from 31 to 36, and also to include a RADAR-equipped AWACS Fighter along with the strike, to direct (on the spot) any strikes that take place beyond the RADAR coverage of our fleet or base.

The bases are interesting but should we also consider building 40000 ton ships?

How large is the jump point landing zone? How much range does a jump point fortress actually need? Do I understand it correctly that you get 40 seconds of defenceless target after they jump in?

The bases can probably be built faster and they carry much more firepower-per-ton since they have no engines or fuel.

But yes, we'll be building ships as well.

At high tech, the landing zone can be a million km radius or more. At our tech, maybe half of that.

But it's random. They might appear very close to the jump point. Or far away.

The jump shock delay is (or WAS) random as well, but at least 40 seconds.

Also, in the 52.5cm laser worth considering? It will make a serious mess of any unshielded ships jumping in with a single shot, surely?

If they appear within close or medium range.

It represents a lot of tonnage, though, and fires very slowly.

Very, very slowly. The Quad 30cm gets off TWELVE shots (four barrels x three shots each) for each SINGLE Spinal Mount shot.

Still, I can check and see what would need to be dropped from the design to fit in a Spinal Mount.
