I still dislike the monetization of modding, even if the CK version is probably much better than Bethesda's cancerous shops. But still ultimately I worry about the effects of it on the health of modding. I'd rather have a few 3D modders rarely releasing their 3D work to the community, rather than having more but them being more interested in working with PDX for a paycheck instead. I don't think good volunteer content and monetization can coexist. Is it selfish for the "modding consumer"? Perhaps, but its also a matter of the health of the entire community.
Also, this is kinda silly imo because I wasn't ever intending on making any of this stuff for free to begin with. I only made it because I was hired, and besides something like Elder Kings 2 which is a long term project that I still work on, I would never make a mod of this high a scope lol. I don't have the free time for that kinda stuff.

I see, apologies for jumping to conclusion.
No apology necessary! Like I said, it's an understandable comparison. There aren't many other examples of modder/studio collaboration, and most of them are... not fantastic.

But if that's how it works is the distinction made in the shop even necessary? (Content Creator Pack: )
The goal (aside from making money of course; it's still a business at the end of the day) is ultimately to highlight the talent in our mod community, so the distinction is necessary from that perspective.

Being totally not biased and not at all a very good friend of Ajs he once again did amazing work. One step closer to living out my reindeer herder fantasy.

PiGu as well of course though this is actually the first time I hear of them I think? But im a fan of little unique models on the map so this is great.

Looks great!

Also wanted to ask for clarification but is the update coming with these DLC the same as the free content update for Q1 that was discussed in previous dev diaries, or is this a separate update and the free content patch coming later this year?

Completely separate; we like to use CCPs to help break up the gap between major content drops.

The "4 winds hat" was adopted only in the 1800s so its a bit weird to see included in a game that ends in the 1400s. That being said, I am happy to see us sámis getting some visual representation :D

Most of the clothing is anachronistic due to lack of earlier sources. Ultimately I preferred to make something accurate to the cultures than try to be inventive.

We'll collect responses from PiGu and Aj in this comment to make them easier for users to find.

PiGu

Yes indeed! A very unique and beautiful monument

Yes they do! They work just like any other special building, so they can be properly interacted with and constructed : )

Idea is to not spoil the surprise and let you find them freely for yourselves, but yes some of the monuments with their modifiers will be revealed in the Dev Diary on Tuesday ; )

There's definitely more information in Tuesday's Dev Diary on this, but generally speaking they make full use of existing modifiers and mechanics without trying to reinvent the wheel. I tried to mostly keep them in line with those from the base game, design-wise.

Of course!
Information from that region in that time period is quite difficult to find online, or anywhere really. The palace is an attempt at describing the palatial complex we know existed in the site of Koumbi Saleh, which is described in relatively contemporary written accounts. The Kano Earthworks are a system of fortifications that used to - and to some extent still - protect the wealthy city of Kano.

Aj

All Ugro-Permians will receive the Khanty aesthetic to my knowledge, maybe a few more. Sami one is restricted to Sami, possibly also Karelians

For what its worth, I'm also a professional 3D game artist outside of modding, which is still mostly a hobby, and a lot of the previous DLC and even vanilla artwork was done by external workers already.

I'm not really into the "clothing packs", but monuments are more tasty - more stuff to visit or fight about :)

Will the content pack(s) release be paired with a patch?

Will there be an update along the release of these 2 ccp's ?? any info on what the update will include so we who make mods can keep that in mind in regards to the time we need to make available to update everything

Would be nice for a future update or dlc to have unique portraits of MAA based on culture. There is a mod already in the workshop but it’s something the base game could benefit from.

Since you are working on this area, might as well do a couple requests.
1739484919612.png

Make Viena, Oulu, Kainuu and Pielinen Saami.

1739485249336.png

Split up Ostyak into Mansi, Khanty and Selkup. The light brown counties should be Kipchak and dark brown counties should be Laktan.
