I wonder what those to hit calculations look like. These missiles move at 190.000 km/s. Over half the speed of light and more than 10 times faster than their target. Hit chances before ECM should be north of 80%, so what am I missing?

It was quoted before that a 5 level diffencr in eccm guaranteed no hits.

Our own anti-ship missiles (not AMM-PD) have ATG (Active Terminal Guidance) of up to +50%.

Range 2.73 million km. Closing in at 3,100 kps.

Our Red-1 priority targets include the seven enemy Lot-et-Garonne class, which have 145 points of shields, ECM-6 and twenty size-12 missile tubes each. I'd like to find out how long it typically takes to pound through their shield and start scoring internals. Armed with this info, we'll have a better idea of how to allocate the... fifteen?... squadrons of Fighters that will be present at the jump point ambush of Red 2.

We have twelve Emotions and four Phalanxes in the Gunship force. For our test, I propose to allocate two Emotions to each of Lot-et-Garonne 001 to 006, and to have the four Phalanxes gang up on the seventh one.

Range now 1.49 million km.

Late-game Laser tech (at the very top of the tech tree) can shoot this far. Our own Lasers (and Fire Controls) have a maximum range of nearly half-a-million km and an effective range of about half of that... but that's against ECM-3 or less.

Against ECM-6 opponents, we'll need to get much closer than that.

We'll hold our fire and close in to around 1/4 of max range.

Correct.

The Phalanxes have one Quad-barreled Gauss PD turret and two Quad-barreled DP Light Laser turrets.

The Emotions have one Quad-barreled DP Light Laser turret and two Quad-barreled 30cm Heavy Laser turrets.

Do we expect them to have energy weapons? If so we should advance carefully

I expect to encounter some sort of close-range PD... Gauss perhaps, or Railguns.

I was planning to close in to about 100,000 - to - 120,000 km. Well outside Gauss PD range, but less than 1/4 range for our heavy guns and our DP Light guns.

That should give us a base 75-to-80% hit chance, penalized by the opponent's three level ECM/ECCM advantage (and by his fast movement) but modified by our 100% crew experience and our leader bonus.

Maybe 30-40% per shot?

Given the way shields work, would it be better to concentrate all the fire power on one target at a time, rather than split it? Every round a damaged ship survives costs you 5 seconds of shield regeneration.

The Gunships are not at 100% crew experience, though. That means they will each suffer from zero to five(?) rounds of fire delay every time you order them to switch targets, and during the fire delay rounds they don't shoot at ANYBODY. Neither the old target nor the new one.

So until your force reaches 100% training, you should plan your fire to minimize target-switching.

So the five-barreled turret (if that's what it is) has a cycle time of 25 seconds.

With Red 1 moving at 13,608 kps and us chasing them at 16,701 kps, we are gaining on them at a rate of almost 3,100 kps. In 25 seconds we get 77,325 km closer.

With their ECM-6, they'll get about three shots at us before we're close enough to start hitting.

Is it possible the Sarthe lacks ECCM? Which would be funny!
