OK, we tried to kite him and it didn't work. He just swans around, first toward the jump point and then away from it.

I guess we bring in the fleet and start heading for his home planet.

That should FORCE him to battle.

... it's gonna get messy, though.

Should we make another attempt to kite him first, perhaps by hanging just out of his range?

Or go straight for Armageddon?

Time to stop messing around. Fish or cut bait.

It will get messy, probably. But not much of an alternative. We can't wait forever.

To be fair there are still a lot of civvies in the system. They might draw some fire I guess.

The Gunships are closing in, intending to take station 275 million km in front of Red 2, and then escort them to the jump point.
Need a combined LOL and heart emoji for that “escort!” :D

The swanning about reminds me of the CK3 AI. I don’t think they’re capable of taking the bait, unfortunately.

we don't know (or do we?) if they were: #1 chasing the agents, #2 chasing the gunships, or #3 going to the jump point unknowing? If we haven't been spotted, them not "CHASING" us is understandable.

Yeah... but we've got our headlights (our AWACS RADARs) on. A blind alien could spot us, even with inferior tech. And these guys have better tech than that.

LOL.

NOTE that this "contact re-established" notification includes exact tonnage figures (7,330 tons).

That means that it was a RADAR that made contact, not a Thermal or EM sensor.

Exact tonnage figures require a TCS (Target Cross Section) that only RADAR can provide.

Is he really cruising a fleet of out-of-ammo vessels straight into that Fighter ambush that we laid MORE THAN A WEEK AGO?

Could it be he can't see the Fighters?
The group of three out-of-ammo ships also reverses course and heads out of the Fighter trap.
Would it be worth heading towards them now, as you said they were within range.

Awww.

Oh well, plan B it is. If that fails to force battle, I suppose we win the war.
Unless they don't start charging Earth...

OK... so what should we bring within his missile range?

NOT the Carriers. Not all of the AWACS.

Lots and lots of PD vessels, DP Laser PD, Gauss PD and AMM-PD.

How slow is too slow? We have vessels travelling as fast as 16,000+ kps, and other vessels travelling as slow as 6,800 kps.

After detaching the ships that obviously don't belong within range of enemy missiles... ammo tenders, carriers and their air groups, very slow ships... we have 64 ships plus a few more that are still refueling before joining.

Everybody has full ammo and nearly full fuel.

I would say keep all the PD together, keep the gunships and anything fast enough to keep up with them separate so they can race back to the JP if Red 2 decides to go for it after all, and work the carriers round behind the PD squadron?

The most recent models of Sabres can keep pace with the Gunships, but I was thinking of using them as independant Sabre squadrons in hopes of drawing more fire.

Wouldn't they perform that function while working with the Gunships? Any missiles they soak are fewer missiles targeting the Gunships.

Their smaller TCS (2,000-ton targets) means that they are much less visible than the 22,000-ton Emotions.

So I might need to bring them in closer than the Gunships in order to draw fire.

Operation Armageddon is underway!

We've divided our force into a Main Body (which we intend to use as a Matador's Cloak to draw in and absorb enemy missile salvos with massed PD fire), a Carrier Force, a Gunship Force, a second two-ship Intel force (to back up the pair we've been using) and two small Sabre squadrons.

We left a third Sabre squadron backed up by the towed Hangars outposting the jump point.

Exciting!

How fast does the fleet end up going? I presume you've set them all to the same speed to keep formation?
Where did you put the PD gunships?
