At the 25 second mark, three of our six Partystarter squadrons open fire.

The Vosges shoots down three of the incoming missiles.

A pity about the other forty-four.

Scratch the Vosges PD vessel.

And the Haute-Rhin is destroyed by Dai Orribly's squadron.

Should we board the big commercial-engined vessel?

If it's a Troop Transport, all of our Marines will be killed. There's no way that a few squads of Marines can beat several battalions of enemy troops.

How likely is it to be a troop transport?

What are the potential gains? Is the risk worth it? :)

We certainly don't NEED the Dyle. Troop Transport or not.

We've already GOT the three engine techs (Gas Core Anti-Matter Power Reactor, Gas Core Anti-Matter Drive, and Fuel Efficiency 0.2) and there isn't much more we can LEARN from a commercial vessel.

I'm tempted to just scuttle it.

Sounds reasonable to me. We want to get our ships back to Mechanus asap, don’t we?

Now that both of the enemy military-engined ships are gone, we can risk our jump tenders and squadron-jump the Gunships into Phi Arietis.

They can simply blast the Dyle to scrap.

As the Gunships arrive in Phi Arietis, the Dyle flees through the jump to the Neutral Zone.

Naturally we have an ambush ready on the Neutral Zone side of the jump, but I'm not sure that I want to waste a Fighter strike on an unarmed commercial ship.

It only moves at 3,000 kps or so... what's it gonna do, nibble me bum?... and I think I'll just let it drive right through my ambush and out the other side, and then run it down with the Gunships.

As it passes through our formation, I'll hit it with a few 1-strength PD missiles, just to point out that we could destroy it if we wanted to. It might surrender.

Just a few gentle taps with a 1-factor PD missile, to remind it that surrender is an option.

He declines to surrender. Fine.

The Gunships will be back in a minute, and he won't get far at 2,200 kps.

ESN Radiant Joy (Randakar) jumps in off to the flank of the fleeing Dyle, barely within firing range.

Opening fire fifteen seconds after jumping in, they score hits with their first salvo.

But now ESN Silent Rage (Iche Bins), ESN Shock (Blaaat) and Winged Hussar 004 (SteveZAX) all jump in almost in the fleeing ship's path.

Can Randakar bring down his quarry before one of the other characters recovers from jump shock and steals his kill?

My guess: Yes. Or another ship in his squadron. They have two more rounds to do it.

The Dyle is done. It's a done Dyle.

Everybody was shooting at it. One of the Phalanx escorts in Randakar's squadron killed it with a 200mm Laser.

Nice. Now we can focus on the main prize.

We'll want to scout the Phi Arietis system at least thoroughly enough to see if there are any colonies or ships there.

We'll scout it with warships until our actual Geo-scout arrives. It's already on the way here.

Who is it going to report us to?
I'm pretty sure that the AI "player" running the Modrons knows what's happening in every star system that it has sensors in.

There doesn't need to be a plausible way to get information back to base.

The ships on the jump point to the home system being blown up probably were warning enough

It's a pretty broad hint, yes.

Still gathering up the Partystarters back into the Tenders.

They're an awesome way to deal with jump point blockades, but the micro-management has you pulling hairs out of your beard.

I fear the point was missed… at this point do we really care if the Modrons know what we have where?

So who is it going to report us to? Mummy? Teacher? Do we care?
