Are the tutorials supposed to work with 1.03b? I have problems with the Resources (World Markets), and Military Management

1. When asked to make a trade, I click as instructed but the message stays on screen and I have to 'surrender ' to get out.

I haven't figured out yet all your rules for where to post, so at risk of caustic response I'll try it here:
I've worked with the cd-rom program plus all upgrades consecutively (through 1.03b), and then I reloaded the original cd-rom program and added just patch 1.03b. The same problem occurs in both cases.
Not only in the tutorial, but in gameplay, I can't get the "manage convoy" and then "trade on world market" feature to work properly. In the tutorial I can get as far as creating a convoy, but the convoy doesn't subsequently show up on the active convoy screen, and the tutorial hangs up at the beginning of the following "trade on world market" instruction. I click on the designated arrow but nothing happens.
In an actual game, the "manage convoy" feature reverses "ship from" and "ship to" selections, thus refusing to proceed further in accordance with my input. So both in the tutorial and in the game I'm having trouble with convoy management. In the tutorial I also have trouble with world trade (haven't gotten that far with an actual game, as the convoy procedure simply doesn't seem to work).
I run Windows XP with Pentium III and plenty of RAM.
Any suggestions?

Re the 'reversal of port from and port to'; the same thing happens to me when I play as a minor (ie Ireland) that doesn't have any overseas territory. I can only send stuff from my home country. (Would have thought that America would pass as overseas territory for Ireland)

Might have to do with some provinces being collection centers for goods and only being able to use them as starting points.
