In the 1.8 update, Awakened Fallen Empires have a 'decadence' meter that starts filling up some time after they awaken (the stronger they grow, the faster it goes up). It weakens their economy and fleets and makes their subjects far more rebellious, and has very severe effects at high levels of decadence. It should mean that you can swear fealty and try to outlast and overthrow them if they're simply too strong to fight head-on. They'll also prefer to force empires into subjecthood rather than annex them outright (though they'll still likely grab a few planets to punish you for not accepting peacefully).

Gamescom would be the ideal time for them to announce it so, I imagine we'll hear about the release date this week (probably thursday during the Dev Diary)
Knowing PDXs usual timeframe for releases and whatnot, that means were probably about a month away from release.

A few screencaps from today's Q&A. It took a bit of MLG pro 360-noscope quick-draw skills to catch these tooltips so I'm sorry for the Twitch pause overlay <3

A couple of machine traits that I've known the names of but not all of their fluff and effects until now:

A reworked Discovery tradition with really interesting mechanics:
(designed to synergise with traditions and civics that increase leader level caps)

Daniel answered some questions from chat. I've picked out some of the more intriguing ones:
  • Wiz recently rebalanced the Dyson Sphere and maybe (Daniel couldn't remember) the Science Nexus. The numbers given for the Sphere were 250 output per level but it's likely that its construction costs have increased too.
  • It is possible that more interesting systems and planets (with rarer planet classes, binary/trinary stars and such) will come in the future as part of an exploration-focused pack.
  • (Standard disclaimer: please don't mistake anything said here for promises! Until a thing is officially announced, it's not a thing!) Espionage is a frequently requested feature. It's coming "when it's time for it, at some point, probably" but it's not something they can talk about right now or have any solid plans for yet. But Daniel does have some ideas on the subject, he even entertained the possibility of stealth ships that would infiltrate enemy territory and gather intel.

250 per level is what I have in my own modded version of the Dyson Sphere. I guess I was not cheating too much. An exploration-focused pack? Sounds interesting.

well we have no clue how far away that pack is/will be, he just said that if/when they add new/changed/rarer planet types and stars that it would likely be part of such a DLC.

and I hope that if/when such a pack come that a home system customizer will come with it(it's the only thing we can't really customize about our empires, your only choices are the premade Sol and Deneb systems, and then just freaking Random).

Which is annoying. Someone has suggested September 19th or September 20th might have a high probability of being the release date. That falls just after our mid-semester break.

Except he suggested increasing costs too. So that's balancing the timescale, not the economics of the sphere.

That new perk is really fun and powerful. Finally gave me a reason to max out my leader pool in every game.
It was actually so powerful that it got nerfed twice already.
:D

Is this a change to the general Discovery tree, or just the robotic one? Guess there is no reason to give this boost just to robots.
Everyone can use the new perk.

I wish they moved federations more in the EUIV HRE direction where you vote the leader instead of turn system. Also HRE styled reforms and potential for Renovatio Imperii could be cool.

Wiz did say that he wants to have a Space HRE. By the looks of it, whenever we get a Federation/Diplomacy DLC, we will get several new types of Unions.

I certainly hope they don't put something that important in a DLC! Vanilla still needs a lot of love in that department.

The vanilla Confederations will definitely always be there, even if reinvented. But if there are other types of Federations, I expect they will be in a DLC.

I personally never used assist research, never had the need: It is difficult for a planet to produce enough to influence with a 10% more the research. If it increases the production of unity, I can think of it

Interesting, glad to see more robot specific traits rather than synthethic versions of bio traits, so to speak.

Great thing to hear. Final numbers may not be final, but it is great to see Paradox looking at mods for balance ideas.

I have never had any complaint about any previous DLCs before, as I understand how business models works, but it is really disappointing to see that a such a fundamental part of any 4X game (interesting exploration) is going to be paywalled.

That stealthship mechanic sounds bananas, in a wonderful way! :D would love to see it implemented in the future.
