For me it has been more about the lack of a need for 3d models than the models themselves. Having the 3d models add more things to break. Having the 3d models makes for weird scenes.
the picture in the that is linked above looks more like someone on vacation trying to get a picture of a fancy historical place while still being in the picture. Or maybe, this looks like someone on a zoom call using a fake background. This does not look like a guy in his throne room.
For this picture I think it would be stronger as portrait over landscape with him standing more to the right (possibly centered on the right side of the door frame). Then I would have an info section for the other half of the area which would include the flag.
You get them in events and panels where the background and the 3d model don't go together.
This is from the declare war panel, what are the two leaders doing in the same room?
Foreground vs background. (This is pushed even further as the background has a painting motif, a curling effect on the left/right, fading at the lower edge.
I am not sure if we saw a picture of the Pope without the crown being clipped.
